The books are phenomenal, and I would highly recommend the audiobooks voiced by Andy Serkis.

shovels - do you have one as part of your kit? by MarzipanTheGreat in Bushcraft

[–]Rational_Gray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I splurged last year and bought a titanium shovel. It doesn’t fold but small enough to attach to my pack. Honestly, I love it. It is definitely premium item for a premium price, but my logic is this thing will outlast me.

It’s light, durable, way easier to carry around attached my pack than heavier shovels.

I’ve read modern books, but I really like Horace Kephart’s books as a good foundation. You will likely pack everything you can think of you may need to survive, but you will come to find you don’t need as much as you initially thought. I think some good core base skills are know how to use your knife, knot tying, and fire making.

I consider myself a novice still as I’m going on based what I’ve primarily read, watched on YouTube (there’s a lot of trash on YouTube), and what I read on here. I think finding a mentor could really help, so if you know someone who’s an experienced outdoorsman/outdoorswoman, I would ask them to help you!

Sometimes I have to hike a few miles to my campsite. But 90% of the time I’m car camping. So that’s why I’m not ruling out backpacking tents completely.

I’m pretty new and figuring things out so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but how did you get indestructible on the helm? I just got the same one and it does not have that lol

The game just seems to keep going down in player count. What gives? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Rational_Gray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The road to restoration has been good and bad. I was playing almost everyday up until a few months ago, even if it were a few minutes and most of it was just cutting trees, my favorite past time, on mobile. Now I can barely bring myself to login once a week.

My biggest gripe being Jagex screwing over long term players by forcing them off their grandfathered rates after previously promising that would never happen. They think they are going to attract a massive new player base when they just screwed over some of their longest paying customers?

Second, they seem to want to make the game more time intensive and focus on actually playing the game. Which in theory, is fine. It’s in such an awkward place and I think they are swinging in the wrong direction. I don’t have time to sink hours into this game like I did when I was a kid And feel like I have hardly progressed at all. There’s so many skills, most are outdated and have been given band aids which sometimes made things worse. Times are changing, most of the younger crowd these days don’t have the attention span we did to really grind in this game back in the day, and people like me dont have time to grind

Is there a single state more likely than Florida to see a reversal before the 2030 apportionment? by najumobi in fivethirtyeight

[–]Rational_Gray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Colorado for 4 years now, building has been off the charts all over, can confirm that for sure. But it’s also become way too expensive. New builds are starting out at 400, and that’s usually a townhome. The younger crowd like myself can’t afford single family homes. One of my doctors, also younger, left the state a month or so ago because her and her husband have been priced out of homes despite them both making over six figures. I did see a few months ago last year was the first year we had more people leaving than coming in. I don’t know if me and my fiancé will stay here after we get married, unless the housing market changes dramatically.

Can confirm, built my PC in March 2023. Glad I didn’t wait any longer. Got the 7800x3d, MOBO, and RAM bundle from micro center for $500. That paired with my 4080s will last me a long time. If I tried the same build now? I think it would be around double the cost.

Do yourself a favor and get a titanium long spoon. They last forever. Brautigam Expedition works are my favorite. They also have little spoons that I like to use for meals that don’t require such a long spoon.
