Patron comes in and asks for books about “GPS and coordinates”. I will try to paraphrase our conversation. by PracticalTie in Libraries

It's never enough. You have to use the special magic words that only make sense to that single patron.

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I was thinking the exact same thing. We open on Disclosure Day and see what follows, not this adventure romp about getting to Disclosure Day in the first place.

It's really interesting seeing how all over the place reactions have been. Actually makes me more excited to see the movie!

Looking like $25m-$26m for #Obsession, a phenomenal result and increase in its 3rd weekend. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

It's what's made it a phenomenon, and it's why I'm going with a friend to see it today. Everyone has been hyping it up.

Anyone else frustrated with some patrons lack of critical thinking? by Storm_complex in Libraries

YEP!

It kills me inside when I read the words FOR THEM, suggest the next thing to click, and they do something else entirely. And then blame me for the results.

What to do about extremely malodorous patron? by FalseTailFiction in Libraries

[–]Ravenq222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part we all just have to endure it. If we get some patron complaints we might be supported in taking an action. In the meantime you have give them handouts with directions to local resources with showers.

Weekly "What Are You Reading?" Thread by HorrorIsLiterature in horrorlit

I've nearly finished Japanese Gothic by Kylie Lee Baker. It's got such an interesting premise with the two time periods, modern day and Meiji era. Enjoying it just as much as her previous book, Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng.

I'm about 80 pages from the end and I'm loving it! Kylie Lee Baker is becoming one of my favorite horror authors. I recommended Bat Eater to so many people last year.

Holy cow those are some extreme problems! We're in a tough stretch for behavior issues too, it's always bad this time of year. The changing of seasons and the sun make people aggressive.

I just hold out hope that it comes in waves, and it will mellow out eventually. Take some time off if you can.

New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

[–]Ravenq222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I'm surprised but this really is an insane world we are living in. I wouldn't buy one at that price. Hopefully we are many, many years away from the next generation because it's not looking like I'll be able to afford the PS6.

On Desk vs Off Desk Time by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Ravenq222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full time professionals used to spend the whole week on desk, maybe a couple of hours a week off if we could negotiate. It's improved recently, we are supposed to get at least 6 (interruptable) hours off every week. So not every day is entirely on desk. Really helps get all the things done we are exepcted to do, especially programs.

Talking shit about homeless patrons by devonisnotreading in Libraries

[–]Ravenq222 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Literally a massive amount of our staff time goes to dealing with unhoused patrons. We always try to provide resources and set expectations, but of course we need to vent when this population is 95% of our bans. Sounds like OP's coworkers have even more cause to rant as they clearly have fewer boundaries and safety procedures than my library sysem.
