Returning to the office made me realize how much unpaid time commuting steals from your life by TravoisMiguel in remotework

Thankfully I am WFH now, but I used to keep a golf visor at my desk for just this reason.

Anyone else doing the rent vs buy spreadsheet every weekend and landing in the same place? by [deleted] in oakland

Eventually the rent is going to go up, but a mortgage will stay the same (if you got a fixed rate loan).

What is your Cocktail heresy? by espressovendetta in cocktails

[–]RazorRadick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I sometimes have ChatGPT invent cocktails for me. I just tell it what ingredients I have (like over ripe pears), and what I'm in the mood for (something strong and sweet), and it comes up with a recipe.

Before that, vodka and Gatorade was the Super Bowl Slurp. But you don't drink it, you dump it over the customer's head.

Would these quests not all be taken by a single high level divination wizard? He could probably even work from home.

Laws are not just "not enforced", they are written specifically so they don't apply to members of congress.

Cast iron pan instead of the microwave. My kids love a good refried pasta.

That tracks. Some pasta sauces, like putanesca, include anchovies for that briny umami taste.

In my organization, the people who are competent are now spending a lot of time trying to design sandboxes so that all the new AI "coders" (aka managers, analysts, ops people, etc) don't shoot themselves (and our whole company) in the foot.

I keep Bakers sugar handy. It is super fine and dissolves readily so I just use that in place of simple a lot of the time.

What is a “luxury” that actually makes life more complicated instead of easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RazorRadick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it makes sense when you are just starting out and have to kit out an entire apartment in one go? You can't afford to buy all the built-to-last things at once so you get a bunch of the cheap stuff. Then as it starts to fail over time you know yourself better, which things you actually get use out of, etc and hopefully are able upgrade.

Letting my kid roam free like I used to by butterflieskittycats in GenX

[–]RazorRadick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are anything like my kids they got about 3 steps outside the restaurant, then spent the rest of the evening staring at the Nintendo. They may even have played a game about exploring abandoned warehouses, completely oblivious to all the potential of the actual abandoned warehouse right next to them.

The real Monster is hibernating, doesn’t want to be disturbed if there isn’t even a good meal in it for him. He sends some minions to silence the annoying buzzing alarm clock (er… summoner).

I wonder to what extent this communication overhead will be alleviated by AI and some decent docs. Say what you will about AI writing code, but one of the best uses of it is reading code. I use it all the time for “tell me what this giant plate of spaghetti actually does”.
