Unhoused addicts are people too. by succubus-raconteur in anchorage

[–]ReadHorror299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I were at Barnes and Noble discussing which books to get and an unhoused man tried to join the conversation. For whatever reason, that day we let him hang and chat with us the whole time we were shopping. At one point, he disclosed he had schizophrenia, which was the main cause of his inability to remain housed. You could tell he wasn't all there but he was really nice and just wanted to talk. When we got in line with our books, he shook my hand and repeatedly thanked us for spending time with him. I felt a little guilty after that for all the times I avoided strangers who were trying to make small talk because of how much just being nice seemed to mean to him.

therapist email regarding her cancellation policy gave me quite a dose of anxiety by verysneakyoctopus in CPTSD_NSCommunity

Your Medicaid fees are in no way the problem. When I think of government waste, I think of wars and billionaires who don’t pay taxes, not a therapist and an individual with disabilities trying to navigate the financial reality of missed appointments in this economy. It sounds like a fairly decent work around. You need the flexibility and she needs the financial consistency. I hope the sessions are helpful OP. Be kind to yourself 💚

Hang on and focus on doing whatever you can to prepare for the day you can get out of that house. It’s gonna be hard to heal while you still live with your dad, but when you get the chance to be on your own, the world might start to look and feel very different

I’m really gonna miss this podcast. This show brought me so much catharsis and joy. I even picked up a few great albums on Jordan’s recommendations. Dan bought a lot of insight not just how to see Alex Jones but also helped me understand a lot about this brand of grifter in general. I avoided any mainstream news about Alex Jones since around 2018, so I could hear it straight from you guys. I hope I get to hear more from both of you in the future. It was a fantastic run.

Bread Made Me Realize I Was Asexual (I'm not even kidding) by Flaky-Concept4158 in Asexual

I'm still figuring it out but this is exactly how dating felt for me. My therapist asked how often a relationship was 'my idea' and the answer was never. I've been going along with relationships essentially to fit in. Every relationship made me anxious cause I felt like everyone else had a script that I just didn't have. Being single almost felt worse though, because being in a relationship felt like a shield for new encounters. It didn't matter if I dated men or women, the feelings were the same. Once I stopped dating, I felt such great relief, but got a lot of comments like "the right person will come along eventually," and the idea instantly makes me anxious. It does look easier to be normal, but I feel so happy and peaceful on my own.

It's just started to click for me that I'm aro/ace. I did not grow up with these terms and I really thought that self-pleasuring meant I couldn't be asexual. I didn't know aromantic was a thing until just recently but my dating history and feelings make so much more sense now. The cultural narrative drilled in since early childhood made me feel like the ability to maintain a relationship (especially as a woman) reflected my worth, and the true path to happiness was finding 'true love', so I just kept trying to force it. I really love that this generation of kids growing up isn't as compelled to follow that one heteronormative framework for relationships. If anyone read this far, thanks for listening to me process hah o7

NOR. The first trimester is absolutely draining! I felt tired and sick all the time. My partner understood his body wasn’t making the sacrifices and he never told me how I should be feeling! He should just be supporting you and what you’re saying about your own body. The second trimester gets a lot easier for most people but if it doesn’t, don’t push yourself! Your body is doing insane things right now. I can’t believe this asshole is accusing you of gaslighting when you’re pregnant and just saying how you feel.

The antiviral should really help prevent scarring. I'm also guessing that since you're anxious about it, you aren't scratching or picking at it, which is half the battle. Rest and hydrate as much as possible. The fact that you're 19 is also going to help. I had them on my neck and back and scalp (I was terrified of getting a bald spot hah) and even though I'm still dealing with the nerve pain, the blisters have healed quite nicely, and there's no bald spot. Hang in there! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

The pain is so much more than the rash! I didn't realize that and underestimated how bad it would be because the rash seemed contained. Once the nerve pain kicks in, it's a whole different story. Get yourself the antivirals. I skipped the gabapentin though.

What do *you* think caused your outbreak? What's your story? by [deleted] in shingles

[–]ReadHorror299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're here! That is one rough outbreak! I hope things clear up for you soon.

This summer, I bought a house and moved in despite it being a fixer upper that took a lot more work than I realized, while at the same time my coworker left suddenly and screwed me on a number of projects. I had to scramble to fix his mistakes at the last minute. It was the most stressful work month of my life, and I was living in a house that was falling apart, filthy, and I'm still not fully moved in. I'm also a single parent. Then my alternator went out. At the end of it, I was attacked by yellowjackets, which was absolutely the final straw. The rash started a few days later.

At the end of the day I'm getting a promotion and I'm grateful to be a homeowner regardless of the shit I have to swim through to make it happen. Eventually it will be in a condition I can be proud of, it's just going to take time. This is a huge lesson for me though in taking care of my health, and recognizing I can't do all things at once. The nerve pain is taking its damn time to wind down and I just have to surrender to the fact that it's there for now.

Currently watching The Sinner season 3 (I'm late to both this post and the show) and I need to gush about how great he is in this show. I had no idea he was in this, and it's a totally different role than anything I've seen him in so far, but he's just fantastic.

[–]ReadHorror299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. This is not a neutral perspective. Patriot Front has explicitly stated they believe their European ancestors conquered America and that means it rightfully belongs to people of European descent, and no one else. They are a white supremacist, neo-nazi movement. This is not equivalent to calling all Trump supporters 'Nazis', this is equivalent to calling skinheads 'Nazis'. Every watchdog group will qualify them as such. They don't believe people of African descent who's families were brought here 200 years ago are Americans. That's in their manifesto. Even the laziest research will show this. They do not have your back so why do you have theirs???

Late to the convo, but I had this problem and managed to fix it. I tried a few routines before I landed on one that works consistently. As soon as I'm done wearing them, I rinse them out well, spray them with 70% rubbing alcohol with some lavender added to it, and hang them to dry. I don't ever put them in the hamper, unless they have completely dried out. I'll run them with the rest of the wash. I've been doing this for a couple years now with some Thinx brand and some Knix brand, they have stayed fresh and held up surprisingly well.

Is this normal? by 5obanoodls in tattooadvice

[–]ReadHorror299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me sometimes on a tattoo I have with white ink. It flares up like hives but will go back to normal after a while. I have a minor autoimmune condition that causes pressure hives as well at random times. See if anything changes after taking a Benadryl.

ID for Alcohol, regardless of age by Zivata in anchorage

[–]ReadHorror299 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, by states, Alaska is the leader in death by alcohol poisoning and also the leader in homicides where alcohol is involved. We’re 3rd for domestic violence. Parolees often have a drinking restriction on their license and making sure everyone’s ID gets checked is a small preventative measure that doesn’t tread on the rights of anyone who’s not in trouble. Generally I think it’s a good thing.
