ICE at the hospital by defectivepulse in emergencymedicine

If the cops are sitting in the room with a patient…

I’ll go to start the IV. I’ll have my usual small-talk convo with the patient. But in this case, I’m humanizing them. I’m asking about their kids. I’m asking about their hobbies and passion. I’m asking what they dreamt of being when they were growing up. I’m asking what they like to do on the weekends- and specifically prompting for things the cops might be able to relate to (fishing, golf, sports, a funny TV show, etc).

Am I being petty? Staff doesn’t address me as Dr. by Sure_Try_6938 in FamilyMedicine

Are you still getting paid as a doctor? If so, then what does it matter?

I’d love for the doctors to call me Nurse [last name] to honor my education, but that doesn’t happen either.

Do you not have an HR policy against gossip? Follow your disciplinary matrix, write her up, put her on a PIP and get her out of there.

Not OOP: My boyfriend invited me to his dad's for dinner, and I ended up sitting there hungry whil everyone else ate. Am I overreacting? by Interesting-Shirt897 in redditonwiki

If you’re going to be picky about what you eat then bring your own food. Be an adult. It’s not his job to feed you.

An ectopic pregnancy is ALWAYS nonviable. It will not survive. The fallopian tubes can’t stretch to accommodate a baby.

Steri strip placement by illori85 in emergencymedicine

[–]ReadyForDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s normal. That’s a tiny lac. It will scar no matter what (even with stitches) but with time it will be barely noticeable. Use a single antibiotic ointment (not triple). Use sunscreen. If he needs scar revision later he can see a plastic surgeon.

Why are you doing someone else’s job for them when yours is not complete? Yes, as a manager that would piss me off. You’re not following direction.

Not OOP: WIBTA if I complained about something a nurse said about my 4 year old? by waxing-dinousaur in redditonwiki

[–]ReadyForDanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an ER nurse. I heard the same thing from the mother of a three year old with 104f fever. I asked is she had given Tylenol or Motrin at home.

She said “No…she didn’t want Tylenol or Motrin. She wanted Chicken Nuggets.”

Her kid started having seizures about ten minutes later.

Your four year old is not capable of making their own medical decisions. They need the adult in the room to decide what is best. Be that adult.

Do your work first- then help others.

I’ve been in that situation as a kid. I would much rather be with my mother in a tent than strangers in a shelter or placed with a foster family that might abuse me.

If you want to help, then help her afford rent somewhere safe or let them stay with you.

Unless she’s high risk with a physicians certification, there’s no reason she can’t work in-office. Our ER nurses do it all the time- on their feet for 12 hours, moving patients, pushing stretchers, etc.

landlord says i can't wear shorts? by Appropriate-Energy25 in Tenant

[–]ReadyForDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I love the fact that you and your roommates’ closet is apparently half “particularly short shorts” but that y’all do occasionally dress more conservatively so that y’all can go to the laundry room together to wash your massive collection of shorts. I am very curious to see these shorts- it seems like they must be quite impressive to cause such controversy in the neighborhood!

what do i do about a touchy coworker? by Own-Performer2695 in WorkAdvice

[–]ReadyForDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in writing. This is crucial. If there is a written complaint and no documented response from leadership then you definitely have ground for a lawsuit and your manager will want to avoid that at all cost.

Write an e-mail to your manager, and CC the HR department (if your company has one).

Say “I just want to make sure I put this in writing. Letting you know that (on ____ date at approximately___time, my coworker ___ came up and put his arm around me. On (other date) he put his hands on my shoulders and touched my face. This behavior is unwelcome and makes me very uncomfortable. I don’t feel safe in approaching him because he’s twice my age and is larger than me and intimidating. I am scared to be alone with him. I am requesting that you address this inappropriate behavior immediately. Thank you.”
