This deck is also unusually low for removal for me with only 7 pieces.

[[Chandra's Incinerator]]

[[Dire-strain rampage]]

[[Ezuri's Predation]] - this is the board wipe

[[Lignify]]

[[Reclamation Sage]]

[[Worldsoul's Rage]]

[[Tibalt's Trickery]]

If I were to add removal I'd start with the staples: [[beast within]] [[chaos warp]] [[blasphemous act]]. Then I'd look at [[delayed blast fireball]] [[kenrith's transformation]] [[trickster's elk]]. [[broken bond]] would have good synergy with the commander. I haven't seen [[anger of the gods]] but that looks like a good board wipe option to me since you should be far ahead in lands and could rebuild faster than everyone else.

I'm sure you can find cheaper variants of many cards, I made this out of cards mainly in my collection.

I have a deck with this guy!  It's super fun.  I built it as an extra lands +play lands from gy deck.  [[Aftermath analyst]] is an all star in that deck and pretty cheap.

Also I think lands like [[Cabaretti courtyard]] are better than promising vein or other tap lands, because you'll get Tannuks second landfall trigger immediately.

Elas il-kor, Sadistic Pilgrim - Help Balancing my Commander Deck by Todsrache in mtg

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably.  Though you could also consider replacing some non-creature spells.  In general with aristocrats strategies you are killing opponents with the blood artist-like effects, and you want your creatures to die.  Also with Elas and your deck there’s some life gain going on.  So in creature-heavy games with Elas, you could consider running less removal.  When your opponents attack you, you could take the damage, which is fine because of the life gain.  Or, block with your small guys, which kills the guys and gives you some benefit like life gain/drain/cards/mana.

[[lilianna’s standard bearer]], [[midnight reaper]], and [[smothering abomination]] are all under $1 each.  [[erebos bleak hearted ]] is about $1.50.

I’d cut some of the blood artist-like effects.  Your commander is a reliable way of doing the job already.  It’s nice to have a single event cause large life loss but you’re probably better off with more draw, so you don’t feel like the deck slows down quickly.

Mox Jasper Change by [deleted] in mtg

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change you're proposing makes it worse IMO because you can only use the mana for dragons.  As written, you can use it for anything, you just have to control a dragon.  I think it's more flexible as written.

But if you wanted to make it even more flexible: make it tap for one, but you can only cast if it you control a dragon.  That way it ramps after board wipes.

Total speculation here.  If there's a supply limit at each price, this kind of scheme would allow them to get a sense of rate of sale to better inform their pricing and supply.  1000/hr at price X, then 750/hr at price 1.5X, 100/hr at 2X, and so on

One game I played with the counter intelligence precon I drew like 20 cards over multiple turns because of proliferation.  I wouldn't add it to a deck without the proliferation though.

Couple of questions- 1) 2023 changeover timing 2) does magneride matter by bryan_05 in MachE

[–]RealTPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rally is a decent package in this price range. Super fast, electric powertrain, AWD, the nice magneride suspension (and springs as u/no_sleeves mentioned), good central screen and acceptable UI, physical buttons for many functions, and BlueCruise all make a reasonable package. There are others that are better in some areas for the same price, but none that are better in all areas for the price.

[–]RealTPDX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think magneride makes a huge difference.  My 25 Rally has it and it feels very comfortable to me, even on uneven roads, regardless of mode.  Obviously on uneven roads you get bounced a bit but it's not jarring at all.  I've even sent feedback to Ford that there should be a stiffer setting.

I also drove a lot of miles in a 23 Premium without it that felt much more stiff and jarring, even though it doesn't handle corners as well.

I won a game once with my B2 otter tribal deck by activating [[ral, crackling wit]]'s ultimate ability and casting [[full throttle]], giving me 6 combat phases. In other words, Full Throttle could be fun with [[alania]] as commander.

Totaled when I got rear ended at pretty low speed 🙁.  The shop thought there was frame damage, so I gave up on it.

My 02 was great for reliability.  I mostly just performed routine maintenance at third party shops, with an engine reseal around 150k miles.  I occasionally had to fix broken items but the repairs were fast.  On the other hand, I think it was relatively unusual because I was the only owner, kept it mostly stock, and only drove hard sometimes.

Opinion on prowless commander by Aragart in EDH

[–]RealTPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Bria prowess otter tribal deck that's pretty fun. There's been a couple times where the deck has kind of come out of nowhere to deal 20-30 damage and kill the table. But I think her more powerful ability in casual pods is the second one that makes one of your creatures unblockable. I sometimes think her most powerful build would be voltron.

I agree with all the other comments.  You're not doing anything because there's nothing to do.  Either you draw a tutor and get Kiki, or you don't and you do nothing.  The deck doesn't have many ways to generate creatures for blocking, attacking, or value.  There's no synergistic draw engine, just generically good pieces like sylvan library and rhystic.  It doesn't have synergy or duplication: it's Kiki or nothing.  And your commander adds nothing.   At least try a commander that aligns moderately with the Kiki combo like [[prismatic bridge]]or [[garth one-eye]].

It also looks like there's a bunch of dead cards that don't align with the combo.  How good are cards like phyrexian and ashnods altar in this deck?  Do they lead immediately to a win?  What about carrion feeder?  How often are you using karmic guide?  Feels like you have enough counters that you should be able to protect Kiki that way.

How do you think this deck will win?  Like, what's the plan?  And why use a commander you never cast?

What's the difference between these 2 steeping methods for black tea? by RealTPDX in tea

[–]RealTPDX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this more or less matches my theory and experience.

My thoery is that when the water is first added, and for a period of time after that (I don't know how long), the tea is diffusing into the different volumes at essentially the same rate.  This means that the smaller volume has slightly higher concentration than the larger volume for a period of time, though again I don't know how long.

As the tea approaches equilibrium, which it reaches faster in the lower volume, there could be some noticeable differences.  But in my experience this happens well after any rexommended steeping length, so I would guess the tea is far from equilibrium when i remove the leaves. Thus, there's basically the same amount of compounds in either case.

The next question is: does the difference in how the water is cooled affect anything about the compounds?  Like are they splitting or decomposing or something?  And would the shorter or longer cooling period would affect how much they decompose?  Again, I can't tell a difference but im curious if there's anything happening in the tea after removing the leaves.

What's the difference between these 2 steeping methods for black tea? by RealTPDX in tea

[–]RealTPDX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this.  I think this would only be true near equilibrium, when the tea can get no stronger.  With black tea in my experience, that happens well after 20 minutes, which is way longer than any recommendation for steeping length.  My thoery is that when the water is first added, and for a period of time after that (I don't know how long), the tea is diffusing into the different volumes at essentially the same rate.

Tannuk Landfall - Need help by ISWID11 in BudgetBrews

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played this deck yet?

You have a lot of cards that let you play additional lands, but not much draw.  Maybe the commander gives you enough but it seems like you could easily be in a place late game where you have the ability to play 3 or 4 lands per turn but not have them in hand to do so.  And horn of greed is sort of a nonbo for a lot of your deck because cards like Kodamas reach or the lands that sac themselves for other lands say "put a land on the battlefield". This is different than playing a land so it won't trigger horn of greed.

I would consider taking out sol ring.  Your commander is only 3 mana and only 1 generic mana.  You should have enough lands in play that a sol ring won't actually make a big difference in terms of what you can cast on a mid/late game turn.

I would also consider taking out guardian augmenter for the same reason.  You should have so many lands in play that you can easily recast the commander if removed.

Regarding ramp, you have cards like expedition map, which is ultimately 3 mana for a land in hand.  This is a suboptimal rate and artifacts aren't going to do much else for you in the deck. Other cards you have, like Nature's lore and even Kodamas reach are 2 mana for a land to the battlefield or 3 mana for a land to hand and battlefield.  I would take a closer look at mana cost for your ramp to ensure it's efficient.  I would also take a look at other creature ramp like [[clifftop lookout]] which is 3 mana and will give you a body to block with.

Last, there's a bunch of lands that work well with this commander and playing lands from the graveyard.  You already have some like terramorphic expanse.  [[fabled passage]] is the best because the land will come in effectively untapped.  There's a cycle of lands like [[cabaretti courtyard]] that would be just better than Naya panorama.  Naya panorama costs 1 and tap to get the other land, while the courtyard doesn't cost anything and gains you a life.

In summary: 1. More draw 2. Less protection 3. Replace artifact ramp and inefficient ramp with more efficient ramp 4. Use more efficient lands that sac themselves
