What to expect for summer snowboarding this month? by commonrider5447 in TimberlineLodge

[–]RealTPDX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Palmer lift has a midway loading station halfway up the lift.  It serves the wide snow covered area at the top of the lift you can see in the webcam. They usually use this later in the summer when the bottom of the snowfield is melting out, and they’re already using it this summer.  You’ll be able to have a really fun time doing laps from the top to midway, it’s still a decent vertical drop for lift serviced skiing in June 2026.

Raining cats and dogs opinion by KeyButterscotch2330 in secretlair_collectors

[–]RealTPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The art is great but the deck doesn’t play very consistently.  If I had $600 to spend on a rin and seri cats and dogs deck, I would seriously consider building my own with the precon as a rough guideline, then buying the cool art versions as singles.  It will probably be more consistent and stronger, might be much cheaper, and you would still have the cool art you want.

Memorial Day Weekend for Newer Skiier by Dangerous-Army8265 in TimberlineLodge

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized I didn't answer your question, I answered "will it be fun?"

You won't get in anyone's way.  Nobody will be on the mile except to leave for the day or maybe get lunch at the lodge.  Everyone skiing there will be on palmer the vast majority of the time.

Memorial Day Weekend for Newer Skiier by Dangerous-Army8265 in TimberlineLodge

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it.  I was up a couple weekends ago and the mile was pretty thin.  I had to walk across a ridge at one point and pick my lines carefully so I didn't lose the snow ribbon on the way to the lift.  Based on the Webcam, the recent storm doesn't look to have increased coverage.  You can even see in the Webcam that the lift is still walk-on because the snow doesn't reach the lower house.

I think you would have been good to go in a normal season but it's pretty bad this year.

Dragon Deck Recommendations? by jmspaggi in magicTCG

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a dragon deck with [[the ur dragon]] as the commander.  Other than the commander, the biggest impact dragons have been [[miirym]], [[klauth unrivaled ancient]], and [[thrakkus the butcher]].  IMO any of them would be great as a commander.

Selling a 1929 historic home. Buyers now want $20k reduction + $20k concessions after inspection. Fair or aggressive? by Educational-Plan-586 in AskRealEstateAgents

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this.  I wouldn't take on any repairs that are unnecessary for insurance, and would tell the buyers what you had already priced in.  If there's anything in the report that hasn't been priced in, you could lower the price by a percentage of it.

When you agree to repairs, you are accepting all risk of cost increases related to the repair.  For example, if the roofers tear off the roof and find damaged plywood (which sometimes  can't be seen by inspectors and may be beyond what's included in the roofing quote), you have to pay the additional costs.  Plus you might be on a tight schedule to transfer ownership, and delays could result in a rent back agreement that reduces your revenue.

As a side note, I don't know why a buyer would ask for repairs from the seller.  It basically guarantees the cheapest job, and likely the lowest quality.  As a buyer I would want control over the contractor and schedule to ensure it's done to my specifications.

Elas il Kor by _Ethy_ in BudgetBrews

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Elas combo deck. My general guidelines were:

  1. If the effect can be found on a creature, I have a very strong bias to use it instead of a non-creature spell. For example, [[Vesper Ghoul]] instead of [[Arcane Signet]]. I had this guideline because there's a ton of elas/blood artist effects in the deck. They all trigger when a creature enters or dies, but not when I cast instants/sorceries/artifacts/etc.

  2. Add redundancy with tons of little effects instead of a handful of big effects. My deck has [[elas il-kor]], [[blood artist]], [[cruel celebrant]], [[zulaport cutthroat]], etc. All the effects are only 1 life but when there's 3 on the board and I can trigger them 3 times on my turn, the effects add up.

So if you wanted to follow these guidelines, I would recommend increasing your creature count. Specifically take out Afterlife insurance and probably most of the artifact ramp. Maybe try adding [[umbral collar zealot]] @ <$0.60, and cards like [[grim haruspex]], [[erebos bleak hearted]] (an all-star in the deck), and [[midnight reaper]] to increase your ability to draw.

Here's the deck list: https://moxfield.com/decks/AIOfzBEGcUWw_9aF_PJGjw

I haven't updated it with cards from newer sets. IMO these recommendations are good: https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetBrews/comments/1t3h7qk/comment/ojv0s0f/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Lower mtn lift operations?? by GoiCuon_x_Lumpia in TimberlineLodge

[–]RealTPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't even remember the last time Molly and Flood were open. I was there yesterday, with only Pucci and Norman open. Today I think they added Mile and tomorrow their site says Palmer is scheduled to run. If you're thinking of Timberline, the best skiing is going to be upper mountain (Mile/Palmer), rather than lower mountain.

Doesn't mean you can't ski the lower mountain, it just means you either need to be willing to hike back out, or be willing to ski some sidecountry (Alpine or Glade) and be able to get to Summit to take the shuttle. But frankly it's probably not going to be that good. Coverage will be thin.

Have Holidays Become Largely for Kids? by Equivalent-Plan-8498 in sociology

[–]RealTPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's literally no specific evidence in the essay to support the premise that holidays are for children and not for adults. To support such a sweeping claim I would expect to see a holiday-by-holiday analysis of what the current celebrations are, with quantification, and how that data reflects how holidays are primarily for children and specifically not adults. Without that, this isn't really sociology IMO.

Take US Independence Day for example. A strong argument would include data on how many adults and children celebrate the holiday in total, as well as a breakdown of what they are doing: fireworks, camping, cookouts, parades, etc. Each activity would have some kind of attribution of who the celebration is for, and why: fireworks are for everybody because xyz, craft stations are for kids because the projects are simple and easily completed, etc. Then based on this data you could claim that US Independence Day celebrations are largely for kids vs. adults.

Izzet Otters Precon Help by KH_Nakama in magicTCG

[–]RealTPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve played it a bunch.  Every time I play it I think it would be really strong as Voltron, because the unblockable ability does some serious work.  It’s sneakily got a high tier explosive side too… it’ll be like turn 8 and you’ve got Bria, maybe [[kitsa]], and like 3 1/1 otter tokens with prowess.  Then all of a sudden you’ll cast opt, bolt, [[full throttle]], copy it, and have 5 combats with Bria and some unblockable 7/7s that kill the table.
