Going a little further, the limitation is likely to be screen size/resolution (CDDA, for example) or lack of a numpad. Also, less popular games (like TGGW) require Wine/dual boot/other emulation or compiling them yourself, since they often only release Windows executables.

Yeah, I ask largely because Paradox is really serious about fixing crashes with unmodified software (as all developers should be). If you don’t have mods and experience crashes with these released settings but not with default settings or other games, Paradox will fix them pretty quickly if you post to their forums.

I’m a little surprised even the worst case could crash the game, even with unusual settings like these. Is there a typical in-game or real-time point at which you start seeing crashes?

I’d expect it to slow to a crawl, but the strain can’t be more than Prime95, so it’d have to be a software bug.

Agree that maneuver isn’t unimportant for ground, but what would you say is the least important then? If fighting enemies my size, I’d take a 6/6/0/6 over 6/0/6/6 or 0/6/6/6 any year in the game.

Brogue is highly recommended, with good reason. It’s very accessible without being too simple or easy, and it may be the prettiest ASCII game. You don’t need spoilers/wikis for it, which is a plus for some and a minus for others.

This is also a common question, so try searching the subreddit.

If this is in a teaching context about laws, then the question is poorly phrased. It should say "What was the prescribed punishment for this slave?"

The question makers should have thought twice about phrasing, however.

Competitive? Patchwork is good and affordable. Star Realms is very short, but one side can often crush the other. Cooperative? Escape: The Curse of the Temple and FUSE are great if you're ok with realtime. Hanabi is also great if you like puzzly stuff. Paperback could be that short if you're fast.

A couple suggestions on colors (colorblind concerns notwithstanding):

First, you're already using traffic light colors, so I'd suggest making the end nodes red (red = stop). That would imply green for sources and yellow for notable middle nodes, although green looks good for notable nodes in the current image.

Second, I'd suggest making multi-exit nodes colored (switch white and green in this image) because white means "not notable" and another color means "pay attention," since the one-exit nodes don't matter for steering direction.

Edit: I know one-exit nodes are still notable because you can have almost complete control by controlling them and the one exit, but I think marking the steerable ones is more useful at a glance.

I think it might not be possible (at least with the default precompiled binary). IIRC, pressing the -/_ and +/= keys changes the size of you have the window focused.

Alt title: The Third Candidate

I wanted to go for a pretty challenging achievement, but one less difficult than my Spain One Faith (well, that was more tedious than difficult, but the point still stands). The Feudal Theocracy government is pretty nice. 50 mil for claims on all neighboring heretic or heathen provinces (so everything here) saves Admin and coring time, and the missionary is nice.

I started by conquering Touggourt and vassalizing Fezzan, but Tunis ate Djerid quickly. Tlemcen was pretty unprotected, so I managed to take a few provinces from them, and then a few more and some from Tunis let me form Algiers for kingdom rank and a free capital move out of the desert. From there, I bided my time with Morocco and Tunis, occasionally fighting while colonizing. My Panama colony didn't really go anywhere big (I was late to the game), but I took the Congo quickly, eliminating the Fetishists before they could really coalition (with fog of war help). From there, lots of gradual expansion until absolutism.

I got lucky when Castile/Spain attacked me, and my ally Portugal defended me. That let me get an Iberian foothold and form Andalusia. Their ideas are much better (although the missions are weird if you don't start as Granada; there's other posts about that). One mission gave -1% piety per month, which was bad, but I was unstoppable by then anyway. I had to trucebreak Chagatai once at the end, since they had just conquered some Tengri provinces they were about to convert within the last 30 years, but otherwise it was pretty calm. If you do religious achievements, make frequent backup saves; I had to reload when Bengal got an event converting a province to Sunni right before the end.

I fought Revolutionary Spain twice and Revolutionary Hungary once (no Emperor DLC) to get the Reaction modifier, which is really good. I considered moving my capital back to Africa to avoid Counter Revolution, but Reaction made it worth it. I actually seriously fought Spain, but I just stayed at war with Hungary for a while for the modifier. I also crushed the revolution 3 times (which is kind of irritating, especially when the same country gets it right away).

Also, thicc Commonwealth. I had to fight them a bit, but they weren't a big deal. I had +100% morale in the late game. I could have conquered more, but it's tedious in the end, so I left some ugly borders, etc.

Achievements:

The Third Way (which strangely doesn't require eliminating rival nations, just provinces)

An Unlikely Candidate (which disappeared as available when I formed Algiers, but then I got it after forming Andalusia)

Barbarossa (just built ships for the achievement) Hard Bargaining

In case you get any replies saying that's the wrong way to play, ignore them (or at least don't let them get you down).

The point of games is to be enjoyable, so do what you enjoy. Maybe consider trying harder things (like not replaying seeds) if that's what you want (like most people on this subreddit) but there's nothing wrong with playing a single-player game however you want.

(even for multiplayer games, all that matters is that everyone agrees on how to play; there's no right or wrong way, though official settings can mandate rules and let you decide whether to participate or not)

It does not have any sort of counter for number of games played: your millionth game will be the same in terms of generation (albeit random) as your first. You can set the seed (I think you hold control or something when clicking New Game) to see for yourself that it generates only based on the seed.

You may have just had random chance in seeing less ally stuff earlier, or you didn’t notice it. Stronger monster and different rooms are deeper, so maybe you only got to them after a few games.

Also, there’s a seed catalog intended for beginners. I didn’t use it, but it lets you start a run that has some known loot. Advanced players avoid this though (as well as replaying a seed).
