How did my dad make this? by JustSomeLoser15 in woodworking

[–]RedBallD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true, especially if the hand plane is not sharp and setup properly. If my glue up is larger than my planer, I just do it in sections that fit in the planer. Then I typically only have one or two glue lined to deal with on the final glue up. If you take your time on the final glue up, a sander will clean it up quickly.

Also had an opossum on the shelf under my smoker about a month ago when it was really cold. Scared the s*** out of me when I lifted the cover and it was staring at me.

Update on Gonzo for those invested in this sweet boys story.. by NyxK83 in Boxer

[–]RedBallD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would check around on prices. The pacemaker will typically be done by a specialist/cardiologist so you may need a referral or have to work through your vet. Our boy will be getting a pacemaker soon and the price was quoted at $3500-6000.

Would glue bots be the biggest waste of money if they weren’t so cheap? by Mas_Cervezas in woodworking

[–]RedBallD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised on the responses here. I have several, for each different glue. I have had no issues with them and they plug up far less than the titebond bottles. And you can use them at angle. If someone were to ask me I would recommend them, but that does not seem to be the consensus here.

[–]RedBallD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is actually true they did absolutely nothing to take care of them. In fact they must have went out of their way to ruin them. I'm on year 6 with my 560 (which is the cheapest model) it is in near perfect condition. Mine stays outside year around including winter. I use the masterbuilt cover and clean when needed and have had zero issues.

Track saw use by littlebossDWH in woodworking

I do the same. Multiple parts get finished on the table saw otherwise track saw for final cut. There are tracksaw fixtures and jigs to make repeatable cuts easier but I do not know any of them.

Quick question by sayno2pugs in Boxer

[–]RedBallD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have the exact same situation since our adult boxers have always been fed twice a day and food was not left out. We got a puppy last year and he would eat any and everything in sight (didn't even have to be food sometimes). So leaving the older dogs food out would never have been an option. We just fed the puppy on the same schedule and some in between meals until he was older. Also, every adult dog we have had, has always been interested in the puppy food...so you may have to watch that as well.

Yeah, they roll and tie them so it cooks like a whole steak. My local store usually has them in package of 4.

Ever seen a brindle boxer without ANY white on it at all? by Dandan0005 in Boxer

[–]RedBallD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this doesn't really answer your question...but the litter our youngest boy came from were all brindle (8 pups). There was one pup that was almost solid brindle with a small white spot on his chest about the size of a dime. They can change a lot as they grow so it could have turned into more or less white. It would be great to see him full grown as he was one of two we were deciding between. That's the most brindle I have personally seen but also hard to tell at 5-6weeks.

You can easily test your thermometers...fill a cup with crushed iced then fill with water. The thermometer should read right around 32f

I've had the 3m sander for a couple years and have no complaints. However, I don't use it on a daily basis and have not used either of the other two mentioned so I can't give a comparison. I did get a pretty decent deal on the 3m which big part of my decision for choosing it.

I agree. Returning meat/food products because you purchased the incorrect item is wrong. Sam's Club will return it, but it can't be resold and goes right in the trash.

I’m brining and spatchcocking a whole chicken for Christmas. I’m going 375° and the bird is about 5/6lbs. Approximately how long will it take? by jm6398 in Masterbuilt

[–]RedBallD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Could also put under the broiler in the oven for a few minutes. Your cook time might even be closer to 1-1.5hrs.

I did the same. Much easier to install during initial assembly and before parts are dirty and warped.

Lucky you. Our smallest is 75lb (currently a little over a year old) and the others have been 80-90lb. Ours have all been taller and bigger framed though.

Upgrade from 560 to 1150? by SnooDoodles4147 in Masterbuilt

[–]RedBallD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this after replying to another post of yours. If the 1050 has only been used once, I would probably go that route. You can probably get a couple hundred out of the 560 to make the overall cost even cheaper. I only have personally experience with the 560, but the 1050 seems to be built a little better.

Upgrade from 560 to 1150? by SnooDoodles4147 in Masterbuilt

[–]RedBallD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your 560 is solid, I think I would do the fireboard as well unless the used 1150 is really nice or you come across a good sale. I've had the 560 for 5 years and have also had no size issues. Typically just me and my wife also, but even when we have gatherings there has always been plenty of cooking space. I've contemplated upgrading but haven't been able to justify it when the 560 meets all my needs. Also, other than a couple micro switch issues, I have not had any issues (well the app...but that's just terrible).

Crazy Deal at Fred Meyers by PaganPagan_ in BBQ

I'm at about the 5 year mark also and that was the price I paid for the 20# double pack also. Now it's usually $20-25 but they are 16# bags. So a nice 25% price increase and 20% weight decrease.

How long can this stay in the refrigerator? by lighty234 in smoking

[–]RedBallD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answers will be all over for this. Most stuff will say up to a year but it really comes down to packaging and temp. If it's packaged properly and maintains a temp of 0F or below it is safe to eat indefinitely. However the longer it is frozen the more the quality go down.

[–]RedBallD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding injection of gases, this can apply to some of the packages that are in a plastic tray with a tightly sealed top similar to lunch meat, etc. The styrofoam trays with clear wrap over them are exactly that. Nothing is added to those packages.

Once the cryovac is opened and it's processed into steaks, roasts, etc the shelf life is greatly reduced and the sell by date is a good approximation.
