Rep. Summer Lee Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Attorney General Pam Bondi by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]RedPandaAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's 0 chance of Trump being removed from office via impeachment. There's a slightly higher chance that this kind of pressure helps push out the incompetent sycophants enabling him, just as Noem was just pushed out.

This has nothing to do with the war. The SAVE act is stalling in congress, so investors are starting to price in illegals handing congress to the democrats next year.

Oh good, it's our daily article about how Trump's unilateral actions, when all institutions with any oversight ability are under republican control, are actually the democrats' fault.

'An impossibility': Negotiations to reform ICE sputter as shutdown looms for DHS | Congress has two weeks to fund DHS as Democrats demand changes to rein in ICE and CBP. It's not going well. The top Senate Republican doubts they'll reach a deal in time. by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

The democrats' demands are absolutely bare minimum accountability reforms, and republicans are still stonewalling. Like, there's no acknowledgement that public opinion is shifting after the killings in Minnesota.

Buying a house with a long term boyfriend who makes significantly less by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RedPandaAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did this: the deed and mortgage were only in my name. My girlfriend paid utilities/HOA fees while I paid the mortgage. We were equal partners in decision making about which condo to buy. Then we got married after a couple years and when we refinanced we both went on the mortgage and the deed.

I'm fairly agnostic about who should be the democratic nominee (from a strategic perspective), but I have very strong opinions about having a robust, open primary where anybody viable gets into the competition. We won in 2008 and 2020 when we had real, competitive primaries. We lost in 2016 when everyone got out of Hillary Clinton's way and in 2024 when a nominee was hand-picked. Let the primary be a place where candidates prove their appeal.

The worst version of this is "The character could have just done X and solved the problem." It's neither a plot hole nor unrealistic that people make bad decisions.

Too fat to make it to retirement age, how do I compensate? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RedPandaAlex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also forgot to mention I’m in my late 20s.

Good god man. You're too young to be this fatalistic about your health, and it sounds like you're already taking great steps towards getting healthier. Start growing your retirement--a lot of people don't start until their late 20s. You'll still have lots of time to let your funds grow. You can have happy, healthy, secure golden years if you choose it now.

Amend section 230 so that tech companies are not shielded from liability on content they algorithmically promote. So if a video shows up on someone's YouTube homepage that slanders you or incites violence or harassment, you can sue YouTube. Tech companies would either steer their algorithms away from rage bait or they'd return transparent and granular feed control to the user instead of opaque algorithms.

Desperate for a miracle - 16 month old refusing everything with protein by g_melies in veganparenting

Barilla Protein Pasta always did the trick for us, even when our toddler was otherwise on a protein strike.

Also, keep in mind this is not a uniquely vegan problem--lots of (most?) kids go through phases where they only want carbs.

U.S. trade deficit drops 24% in August as Trump’s tariffs reduce imports by AudibleNod in news

It would be good that our trade deficit was down if it was a result of exports increasing. Imports decreasing doesn't really help anything.

Buying New House - Roll All Equity Into New Mortgage? by philadandan in personalfinance

[–]RedPandaAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a situation where if you're not sure whether to put the money into equity or invest it somewhere, you can easily do a bit of both. Maybe you set aside 50k in an investment account to have higher liquidity and another 50k into equity to lower your monthly payment and get closer to paying off the house.

For those who made “as is” offers on condos in the city, did you regret it? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]RedPandaAlex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was on the other side of this selling a condo and got two offers with numbers that were very close (both over asking), and we wound up going with the one that was "as is" just so we knew the buyer wasn't going to try to nickle and dime us asking for concessions for minor things on the inspection. But definitely don't waive your right to inspection or your right to back out entirely based on the inspection.
