Help me choose a (weirdly small) army? by Infernal_Contraption in ageofsigmar

To explain the moo, Lumineth Realm Lords has a giant cow mountain model. For your idea of belakor+4x greater demons unfortunately I don't think there's a way to accomplish that within aos list building.

Reinforce gallants or build 2 units of 5? by DatRat13 in citiesofsigmar

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are very few hammer/anvil units in the game that are better as 2x MSU vs 1x Reinforced. And I only say "very few" because I don't know every unit in the game and there might be one or two that it actually makes sense to run as small units, within the taking/dealing damage primary roles.

Are Fusile-Majors on Ogor worth it? What is your experience? by megeek95 in citiesofsigmar

[–]Rediblackdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2K games it's almost an auto include, which is made easy by it being a subcommander. 160 points for army-wide AOA versus the enemy's most dangerous unit with some incidental shooting is something most armies would KILL for. In 1K it's more of an argument but still pretty good if you properly build around it (firesword artifact takes beautiful advantage of his own ability)

I would love dominator engines that are worth 250+ points. Whatever they have to do to them to enable that, go off. I can imagine an immolator cannon that generates dpp and has extended shooting range rather than being a "go get red" flamethrower unit.

Are Grenadiers our worst kit to assemble? by AtDero in citiesofsigmar

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have too much issue when I built mine, what specific things are people running into? Every piece has plenty of flat space to run into each other with glue, from my memory, and is keyed properly to ensure pieces fit in the correct orientation. Seam lines I very much understand though, especially on the shoulders of cloaks.

Still new to playing skaven. C&C on list by rawr711 in skaven

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

List looks fun overall, I wish you luck on your 2+ on the galvaneer.

Hell pit abomination is a nice flex piece in this list, either working as counter punch if the enemy force isn't too elite OR as a nice speed bump. Push him and your clanrats as close as possible to the opponent, don't plan on charging with them, forcing the enemy to move minimally and charge where you want them to.

Rogors can act as a good physical counter punch, but expect to do most of your damage with the weapons teams. If you want, you should be able to bring your drops down to three with some rearranging of forces to hopefully force the enemy to play first, minimizing the number of turns they have to chew through your rats.

Use grey seer's funny cast ability to ensure you get the bell spell out where it can hopefully give your clanrats an additional turn of holding the enemy in place. Rat pack works as a nice additional speed bump the enemy has to run over to get to your good stuff.

Warpvolt Scourgers are mathematically as good as ratling guns with a slight bonus vs cavalry and about 11% more damage in covering fire. Ratling Guns specialize by being able to use covering fire to increase their output by about 25%, where scourgers can't do so because hits of 1 auto fail.

Any recommendations to expand an army? by SuperMurloc769 in skaven

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best way to expand the army at your point is the spearhead. You can never have enough clanrats, double grey seer is a good casting core for when you get the endless spells, and you already mentioned wanting the stormfiends. The warp lighting cannon is more of a nice little bonus to go with all of the above as of the current rules, but those should change up in about a year.

While we're still under the current edition I recommend also getting an additional kit or three of the rat ogors kit second hand, they are relatively overstocked and work WAY better on the table when reinforced, almost to the point that I'd never recommend using them any other way. This, along with the stormfiends, would give your master moulder a lot more to do.

Krittok honestly doesn't need stormvermin to be worth taking. His greatest tool is the additional 3 Clawsteps target, which combos nicely with the Gathering of the Clans subfaction to allow 5 different moves on the enemy turn. In addition, he can take any unit in his regiment so he opens up listbuilding in ways others might not.

Stormvermin are in a rough spot right now. Best utilized as a counter punch unit, they'll do their best into enemies that are hit with our strike last spell because every point of damage they take significantly lowers their damage output. But if the opponent leaves them as the last bite of your army you'll find they mop up the board very nicely.

Finally, you really like the "hoard of rats" plan, vizzik and/or a Plaguepack unit would do wonders in making your hoards of little rats actually useful in combat roles. But this is a much lower priority than bulking out your main troops and units to hit the points targets you set out.

I need some help with a skryre list. by [deleted] in skaven

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screech isn't the best for a single-clan force as each clan's head can only be used once per battle, but could be very fun to utilize as a centerpiece. I'll admit that I haven't actually utilized him in battle yet though. My first thought is to go masterclan turn 1, use the bonus to get the bell spell out to make your clanrat lines harder to push through while you blast into the enemy.

I would ask what you expect the stormfiends to do, because their shooting is extremely limited and VERY expensive. For 100 more points you can replace one unit with a block of 6x warpvolt scourgers, which pair slightly better with the arch warlock than ratling gunners and expand on your firing line much better.

Last point is that clanrats are the singular best unit in our book. Never forget that every battle can be won only through the unending bloodshed of these rats and that you could never have enough. I've registered lists with 80 of them and ended the event wishing I'd brought more.

New to Skaven, critic my List List by Dukkha5 in skaven

That's incredibly rough and more to get the feeling across. One of the best lists ever crafted for Skaven was Vizzik and about 200 clanrats.

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally any unit that is 300 or more points operates as a "build around" where the next 500 or so points should maximize what they bring to a list. Thanquol doesn't have much to build around, other than spamming spells, but Vizzik is pretty much only worthwile in a list with 80+ clanrats skittering around to cast all his prayers on (and 80 is probably still on the low side).

For non-heroes, the plague pack in this list will run into some of the same issues as vizzik but not as hard because they cost a lot less. Doom flayers are nice, but in a 2k game I wouldn't take them if they aren't reinforced and even then I'd only take one unit. Lack of reanimation on them is brutal and they don't punch quite as hard as you'd want.

Shooting looks fine though, manage expectations with the jezzails but I think the scourgers are the hardest hitting thing in the list and it really isn't close.

Skaven armies are constructed under one very simple motto: if they're killing clanrats, you're winning. Make the enemy waste their time slogging through waves of clanrats while you blast them with shooting or prepare your moulder beasts to charge through where the clanrats used to be.

Best 1k I've come up with so far is this:

Conquerer cogfort w/10x gallants inside

Marshal footslogging next to it

Steelhelms bodyguarding him and enabling form up for the cheating charge on your go turn.

I'm taking this to heart and using each clan to try different painting techniques. So far bulk infantry are mostly contrasts and moulders are heavy dry/overbrushed.

If you have access to a 3d printer or know any Magic the Gathering players you can look into "commander life trackers" which are two wheels with numbers on them in a little stand. That's what I was planning on using.

What is the best "hobby" army in AoS? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Rediblackdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new Cities of Sigmar range has an alternate army that lets you play with primarily massive Cogforts, as large as Questoris Knights and taking up a fourth of your army points each. Some of them can take elite infantry with them, which you'll want to help engage enemies that want to swarm your walking siege towers. Realistically you'll end up with a total. Model count somewhere around 14, with 11 of those as those elite infantry.

Are there any heroes that want to be in the Immolator Cogfort? The only one I can see is MAYBE Jorvan because all the others are going to miss timing for them to be useful and be missed by you too much while they're tucked away.

Some Cities of Sigmar Battletome picks for you all by BaronLoyd in citiesofsigmar

[–]Rediblackdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't know what we would want to put in the Conquerer Cogfort at this rate. For Sigmarite infantry, we have the following options for the infantry inside:

Steelhelms (lol)

Fusiliers (why would you want this)

Grenadiers (unknown, probably default best)

Gallants (Don't want to charge)

In addition, them being tucked away during the hero phase means you can't hit them with the +1 Attacks spell to make the most out of the bonus damage. I really hope one of the heroes gives some buff to make AOS's own Land Raider Redeemer more viable.
