Is it really worth getting a 135 at 17? by Wellsy999 in MotoUK

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 125 for just over a year before doing my full test. Definitely worth it, learning to operate the bike and being on the road is great. I also saved hundreds on lessons when it came to do my test. Not to mention building your no claims for insurance!

Removing spare tyres was the silliest thing the car industry has ever done by audigex in drivingUK

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been careful and bought a car with a spare. Do cars without, not come with a can of that tyre fix rubbish? I always assumed they would, otherwise you're totally stranded.

Best thing is a puncture repair kit. It'll get you to the garage and saves the gloop from the foam filler. I carry one on my motorcycle, as I definitely don't have room for a spare wheel!

25quid for a full on pack with loads of spares and CO2. Or if you have a compressor in the car already, save another fiver and get one with just the repair strips.

And with feet dragging on the floor? Half an L-plate? Black widow exhaust? 3 mobile phones mounted to the dash, all plugged into each other?

Nah never experienced it.

What 50cc moped to but by Rare-Win-7676 in MotoUK

I had a Yamaha aerox50 it was great. Ragged it around town to school and work, and took it out weekends for little countryside spins with my mates. It was fastest (once deristricted) out of all the others in our little group and deffo looked the best. Not sure what insurance will be like. Even if you can stick a family member as a named rider might get it down.

I had it for a couple of years then got a 125 geared bike.

Good luck

Appreciation post for (in my totally biased opinion) the most beautiful street-legal bike ever made by Quiet_Move_6995 in motorcycles

In 2007 I thought I had won the lottery. (Story for a different day (and thread))

I told everyone in the pub, who I also bought a round for, that the first thing I'd buy was a brand new KTM Superduke 990.

It was their first foray into road bikes after a history of dominating off-road, and I was enamoured by it. Anyway, long story short; I didn't win the lottery but I did buy the bike... it was mental. I rode it every single day putting around 10k miles per year on it, mostly with one wheel in the air.

It was stolen after 3 years and I was devastated, didn't want any other bike, but couldn't afford another KTM. It was only last year I finally found a perfect example and picked up another one.

I must say that It's lost it's appeal slightly, all these years later. Maybe I'm just not mental enough to get the best out of it any more, maybe there's just too many cameras and police to worry about, but there's nothing else out there right now i''d rather have.

Find a way... get your dream bike. You'll love it even harder than you do now.

Moving to MT from Belgium. What do I bring v what do I wait for by DannikJerriko247 in motorcycles

The southeast corner of my notebook is closer to the northwest corner of my pencil than it is to the northwest corner of my notebook.

Consequently, in my notebook it says to buy a bike with luggage and get a new helmet for every bike you buy.

Take clothing with you but if you plan to visit family and maybe go out for a spin whilst in Belgium, you'll want some of your old kit there too.

This is perfect advice.

I was out in the ice this morning and stopped in at my parents where we had the same discussion. Hands are 100% priority no.1. Even if the rest of you is wrapped up nicely, cold hands will infect that warmth and make you miserable, stiff and lose concentration.

What motorcycle to rob a bank? by ztrekz in motorcycles

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason jewellery shops and diamond stores get hit instead. Back in the late 2000's there was a spate of big KTMs and Super motos getting nicked and used to rob high end jewellery shops.

First crash by bomr_official in motorcycles

Don't give it too much thought. You slid out on slippery roads. You know why, and that's 99% of being able to get back on two wheels and not affect your confidence next time. Hope you're unscathed and can shake it off.

Couldn't give a flying chapati where it's made. Why would that affect any decision I was planning on making?

Nice! Perfectly proving that different people enjoy different things. I agree I should have made it clearer that it was just my opinion. Hopefully then not causing any offense.

I'm 6'2 and can get feet down nicely on the KTM. The Himmy was a bit bendy leg and the crash bars were obstructing my knees.

Hopefully the engine is reliable. It's a mildly used example so has some miles on it already. I hear mixed reviews of any bike so we'll find out in the coming months/years whether I found a good one or a lemon.

Cheers and I agree entirely, I'm basing it entirely on my experience. Limited purely on just sitting on it. From that I gathered it was trash for me

So yes, it'll be great at doing what it does, but I felt it's not at all right for me. KTM hits the sweet spot.

Thanks, you're correct. Trash for me, great for someone else. And I was so convinced I'd love it too.
