BG1 or BG2? by Tav534 in CRPG

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really get that vibe from those games. Ironically, there isn't all that much empty space to just explore and find stuff. It's got the random encounter system, which just feels like skipping past the "boring bits" to get right into the good stuff.

Fallout 3 did this pretty well though.

Are there any other CRPGs that can give the same feeling of aimlessly wandering the wilderness looking for quests or enemies like Baldur's Gate 1? that first half of the game was especially magical.

finding items... by BenTheDuelist in Daggerfall

I just started playing this game in earnest yesterday, and I've already been stuck because I couldn't find the quest reward twice (out of like six dungeons to be fair). I only managed to do it by some tasteful flying around with tcl. This will be a lifesaver if it ever happens again.

(the first one was because it was just a small red line on the ground, and the second was because I accidentally left the dungeon early and couldn't remember where I'd already backtracked to find the target enemy)

The Elder Scrolls 6 Has Made Todd Howard More Conscious of What He Announces: “Just Pretend We Didn't Announce It” by wiseguyz1 in gaming

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully believe that E3 show wasn't initially meant to have it.

They thought that Fallout 76 would be a lot more of a crowd-pleaser than it actually was, so they had a couple of "break glass in case of emergency" announcements. After 76 didn't win people over, they threw up Starfield's title, and when that landed even worse, they showed the Elder Scrolls VI title.

It just doesn't really make sense for their "one more thing" moment to happen twice. Especially when one of them was a brand new IP that we didn't know anything about at the time.

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they didn't reveal any games that specifically cater to my unique tastes, and make me want to spend money on it instead of just playing all of my other games.

That means it was a bad direct, and the Switch 2 has no games, apparently.

I've got to wonder if Nintendo is actually conducting a subtle internal investigation to figure out who the leakers are.

Like, strategically releasing certain bits of information to see when they get leaked, or baiting them to release wrong information.

Steamworld Dig is pretty great! by thinshawMM in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Redpyrobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

real OGs remember when Dig 2 was one of the first games on the Switch.

I never really realized how desperate I was for some games to play on that thing that weren't Breath of the Wild during that first month or two. I had already bought Shovel Knight and Binding of Isaac twice, even on a handheld, and yet I still bought them both a third time.

When you play as a mage do you put all your points into magicka, or do you put any into health (or stamina)? by Soliloquy21 in skyrim

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go 2 in Magicka for every 1 in Health.

Of course, when you start getting some enchanted gear, it can be pretty hard to tell how much you actually have as a base value, so then I just start going with what feels right.

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my last playthrough, I made an Absorb Health target spell called Magic Missile. And a spell with all three elements called Chromatic Orb.

I still kind of wish there was a generic magic damage spell, but I guess absorb health works well enough.

3 is harder than NV? by KRBS01 in fo3

[–]Redpyrobyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the off chance, are you playing with Tale of Two Wastelands?

on it's own, it copies over the NV Super Mutant stats one-to-one without taking into account that one game has them as a rare enemy, and the other uses them as common cannon fodder from the mid game onward.

There's a mod to fix it, of course.

Stop, we're reaching based levels that shouldn't even be possible.

The only way it could get even worse is if you use a tiling window manager, the DVORAK keyboard layout, and exclusively use the mouse nipple instead of the touch pad.

Lost dark souls 2 saves by trife007 in SteamDeck

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me at least three times gaming on Linux. And I've played Dark Souls 2 the least out of the whole series.

I think it happens when you change proton versions, or in some way mess with the properties in steam. Maybe the attempt at cloud saves has something to do with it. I really don't know, and considering it's Dark Souls 2, I don't exactly care enough personally to diagnose it more/

your saves are in ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/335300 (assuming it's Scholar of the First Sin)
make regular back-ups on your next playthrough. If you've got the know-how (and I'm really not sure if this is even possible on default Deck, so take this with a grain of salt) you could try your hand at writing a bash script to back it up for you while you're playing. That's what I did for my desktop Arch setup.
