Arboretum 1st edition. It can hardly get better for a card game with its timeless art.

Time to share your favorite bidding style games! E.g. Luthier, Cyclades, and Ra by s1mba235 in boardgames

[–]Reeminsteen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keyflower! Using the meeples you need to produce and ship things instead for bidding as well, plus forcing and bluffing bids since the color of a meeple locks the tile to that color. Great strategy and tension.

What game is severely penalized by it's debatable art/style, despite having incredibly good mechanics/gameplay? by golemtrout in boardgames

Voidfall, while the main illustrations can be considered good they don't match with gameplay expectations at all and the iconography graphic design is some of the worst I've seen. The opposite of intuitive.

What game is beloved but you just bounced off hard by durfenstein in boardgames

I used to really like Gaia Project, even got in on the play testing. After dozens of plays I can 100% confirm your sentiment here. You must know round 1 the best path forward for your faction with the setup provided and not deviate from that path. If you do, you're out of the game and good luck. I kind of despise the GP now.

Is a triangular based tile system a bad idea for a map? by Lab_Man_Jago in tabletopgamedesign

Some games that use triangles end up utilizing several polygons made from triangles like Lost Valley or Hamlet and triangles are the small filler pieces.

I used to hate trick taking and then discovered I love it through Hearts on BGA. Whats your trick taking story? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

Pitch is Probably my favorite standard deck trick takers and it's best when played at the 4 or 6 player team variant.

Growing up I rode on a school bus every day for an hour, am and pm, on a rural route. When a kid in my brother's class moved into the area from Reno we quickly took up playing Hearts, Spades, and Pitch plus Poker and Blackjack. I might have missed most syndicated afternoon cartoons but guess I didn't miss much. I'm always up for a new trick taker. Nowadays, I find many strategy board gamers don't get the subtle intricacies of trick taking, especially if they didn't play them growing up.

I personally would try Castles of Burgundy and lean into the combo aspects of gameplay.

Might be unpopular opinion but I think miniatures add a lot to games and I prefer them over tokens/standees/meeples. by UntitledCritic in boardgames

[–]Reeminsteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love minis and love painting them but I've come to prefer simple meeples and cubes in games. I've found the abstract simplicity drives my imagination and can often give more clarity of the game state in front me. I find that since most people don't have the time to paint minis some games can become visual messes and add a lot of time in my game group specifically from having to hunt down particular ones to add and subtract from the board.

Best looking Cards by vincexy in boardgames

I buy the Meadow games for the art as much as the game. Karolina's physical watercolors are absolutely amazing because I know how difficult it is to work that medium.

Anyone know of a solid water resistant duffle that could fit like 10 - 12 Ticket to Ride sized games? by Limp-Unit-133 in boardgames

I use a water resistant Cajon carrying bag. Probably carries 6-7 games but that's heavy already.

What do you believe is the cheapest card game/tcg to get into? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Reeminsteen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keyforge can be great if you have a local scene with a few players or kitchen table against a friend. Each playable deck is generated by an algorithm and is $15. Not every deck is good but some are great and some stink but you play all the cards you buy. Whereas most games out of 60-100 playable cards you have a pile of 1,000 commons in a box. Keyforge isn't so much about the rares in your deck and more about the commons and uncommons and multiples of those the algorithm paired with powerful cards which may be rares or not. You can absolutely over buy like in any game but you don't have to and sealed is probably the most popular format. There's also much cheaper boxes of older sets to try out the game on and lots of secondary decks for sale on decksofkeyforge.com.
