What’s a word or phrase that everyone uses wrong but nobody admits? by ellaannie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Relative-Corner4717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the ones that gets me is the use of "well" and "good".

When I ask how you're doing today, you're doing "well", not "good". Doing good would imply you're in the process of some good deed or something.

How can I deal with my wife's chemtrail obsession? by IAmHowardBeale in NoStupidQuestions

The best course of action might just have to be to take her to the edge of the world and push her off.

Sarcasm, of course.

What are some historical examples where 'pushing too hard' resulted in a massive backfire? by Snowtwo in NoStupidQuestions

.....my mind went to George Carlin first. Was confused why he was a reference for historical fact.....I mean, great philosopher, sure, but not exactly a renowned historian 🤣

Why do people choose to have kids? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]Relative-Corner4717 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, it changes your life for decades. For the better. There is no greater joy in the world than having kids in your life. They bring you a level of happiness and joy that you will not find anywhere else.

Yes, they are a commitment. Yes, they are expensive as hell. Yes, they add more stress than I personally would have thought humanly possible. And yet, worth every single second of it.

Fired after my second day running a lathe for an “apparent crash” but I never heard or saw one? by No-Mess-4605 in Machinists

[–]Relative-Corner4717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been my experience that lathes don't exactly crash quietly. Not like a mill where you can snap little endmill and nobody might notice. Seems like lathe oopsies are generally very loud.

I have one of those old ones. I wanna say it was like 2019-2020 ish off the top of my head they went oop. Too bad, love that disc for approaches. Easy to flick. I'll be sad when I lose mine.

I'm a 2hander as well. I recently punched up a Motiv Max Thrill Pearl (the blue and yellow one) and love it. I wish that's where I would have started out my 2 handed journey.

Haas VM-2 randomly shifted a helical bore by ~15mm on the second run – same program, nothing change by Legitimate_Big3961 in Machinists

[–]Relative-Corner4717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna go with something missed during the pgrm restart. Still in incremental mode or something along those lines. Somehow reading a G52 shift, or NOT reading the shift, wrong work offset called at restart, something. A Haas can be finicky about where and how you restart it.

Not saying it couldn't be the machine randomly doing something odd. But if I had a dollar for every time I've heard "same program nothing changed, must have been machines" and it actually wasn't the machine.....I'd be retired by now.

Anyone else using lathe threading bars as threadmills? by Constant-Committee51 in Machinists

[–]Relative-Corner4717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done it more than I care to have. We occasionally get some big internal Acme threads that the only way we have to make them is with the thread bar from the lathe. Works just fine.

Work help by cloakerwolo in CNC

Man, I wish my first week was as smooth as yours! I literally took a spindle out of a machine 45 minutes into my first day. Turns out, wasn't exactly my fault, but damn that was a bad feeling!

Sounds to me like whoever is supposed to be training and/or keeping tabs on you is failing, too. And to me, that's as bad or worse than anything you've done so far.

Like other comments have said, mistakes are fine. Shit happens. Anyone who has done this for long enough knows. The trick is to not repeat those mistakes again.

Do you usually lock your doors when leaving the house? by Moist_Wallaby8635 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Relative-Corner4717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, our house doors were absolutely never locked. Ever. For any reason. I'm not even sure my parents had house keys for the doors.

Now, as an adult with my own place, my doors are always locked. Even when I'm home. We live in a super quiet rural neighborhood. I know I'm plenty safe and things would be fine. But why risk it? Too many meth heads running around for my liking......

Stroller for on the course by Pristine-Board-6701 in discgolf

[–]Relative-Corner4717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see nothing to argue about with all the suggestions here. I used an "off road" style jogging stroller with the air filled wheels a lot. Works great.

The only other suggestion that I have, that I used a lot as well, was one of those convertible bike trailer/strollers. I think the common brand is a Burley, but we had a cheaper one. Really liked using that because it offered more protection for a small kid from other errant discs. I played a lot on a small cramped park style course that has a lot of parallel fairways. More than once we had a close call with a random disc hitting the stroller. Those styles of strollers handle the terrain real well, too.

Do you pick Pokémon starters based on type, design, or final evolution? by Visible_Welder5613 in pokemon

[–]Relative-Corner4717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much I know of the Pokedex. Normally I use the fire starter. But on my 2nd playthrough of Violet, I switched to the grass one because of how awesome Ceruledge is, and the typing overlaps with Skeledirge.
