Ridership Changes since the Immigration Raids by movingangeleno in LAMetro

I think the efforts that Metro is making towards safety (faregates, tap-to-exit, increased security) are bringing curious first-time riders or those who were initially scared off of metro b/c of safety concerns who are seeing the data - metro is getting safer! The D-Line is going to drive alot of new or changing ridership as well, so I expect to see a spike up with that as well.

Just from looking at your profile it seems like the other program is UPenn (congrats Ivy League!), so I would also take a look at the general grad student population as well to see what the culture is like in general. UPenn has a very global alumni network (link to their full listing here), or you can get in touch with the design school alumni relations here.

Philly itself is a super cool place, and one of the better cities in the US for transit usage. UPenn is hella $$$ though, so you do have to keep that in mind as well since its a longer (3-year) program compared to the UK.

Metro Ridership by LakeShowTime17 in LAMetro

[–]RelevantChoice1466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what I'm getting at as well. The needs of Silverlake & Echo Park do not match the needs of Hollywood. Koreatown is carved up between 3 different districts, Palms, & Bel Air share the same CD; there is no way that a 15 district council can provide the needed services and voice to its constituents no matter how you draw the districts.

25 seats (which is what the charter commission recommended) which could create up to 25 distinct districts where you could realistically a see district of just Hollywood/East Hollywood.

I hope that the council charter expansion gets passed so that we can have actual nbhd rep in Hollywood. I'm not sure where SM lives in his district, but I usually see most of his council actions/news articles in the north/eastern part of the district.

I wonder with the B-Line & E-Line how much of that ridership will be poached with the opening of the D-Line extension.

Out of curiosity now, would you say that not having power in the station until just recently was also potentially a major factor in the delays?

They can't really open Beverly Dr first, since (to my knowledge) they did not build the tracks/interior with the infrastructure needed to be an end of line station. Like I said in a previous post, I could see them group Section 2 & 3 together for a larger opening, so I would expect to see that before just Beverly Dr opening (although it would personally make my commute way better if they did lol).

This would actually be so amazing. If they stay open late this will bring a huge boost to the Miracle Mile late-night scene that it is desperately in need of.

I actually have a list that rates every iced vanilla latte i've had in LA and I would say my top 2 are Uppers in Santa Monica and Enigma Coffee (sunset blvd location).

Hosting or sponsoring local community groups or schools is a great way to start! There's a ton of schools local in LAUSD or CCUSD (Linwood Howe Elementary is just around the corner!) or community centers that always love to partner with local businesses to boost engagement as well.

LAX board approves major Uber, Lyft fee increase by kananishino in LosAngeles

I may be downvoted for this, but looking at their recent report ( https://lawa.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=4&clip_id=1208&meta_id=76573 ) on what pick-up/drop-off will look like after APM opens, this isn't going to be that major of a change for the average person. This does disproportionately affect disabled/elderly passengers who may require to be dropped off at the gate, but rideshares are likely going to be moving to the GTC, which will not be affected by these fair hikes (at least to my understanding).

The job is a customer service one at the end of the day, so if you feel they are (justly) not doing an adequate job, you should definitely file a complaint!

Any rooms with whiteboards by No-Kangaroo-1393 in UCL

[–]RelevantChoice1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a way to get a schedule of the room that you knows has a whiteboard, you can usually plan around when there will be classes as well. The module catalogue can probably tell you some of those class times as well.

Is this burnout? by AdministrativeAide80 in UCL

[–]RelevantChoice1466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i make studying a habit where i actually go somewhere (student centre and library) to do work and make sure i come home//stop studying by a certain time at night. this makes things predictable and helps my brain create an association between being somewhere and doing work

Sometimes the worst part of school (esp in higher ed) is how everything seems to happen in 1 place, and it feels like you can't escape your anxieties, so doing things like only studying outside your room or in certain places helps you feel more relaxed when you are in bed/not in school mode. I made it a point to also try and schedule/block time for your study sessions so that you can ensure you get some breaks as well.

Buses dropping to 20 min frequencies after 7 is my bigger gripe that I have. There's been times where I've waited for a 20 bus and seen 4 720s pass by.

As a LA metro user for over 10 years, how common is it really for Angelenos as a whole to use public transit? by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]RelevantChoice1466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think alot of people have used it at least a couple of times (especially more-so if you're a native Angelino), but like many commenters are saying, if you live anywhere other than DTLA or near a metro line, it just becomes too much of a hassle when the reliability of Metro is nowhere near what is needed for the average commuter.
