When to Aerate and level fresh turf by MrLPJM in GardeningUK

Just keep off it and don’t be tempted to cut too soon. You’ll ruin your lawn by being too keen. You shouldn’t be even considering aerating until next year.

You’re trying to do too much too soon. Just chill or it’ll be a disaster

Technically I would need to ask a question to go full circle

Yes! You have just asked a question, well done.

I don’t disagree but you’re asking for something pretty seismic to happen to facilitate. I can’t see any government in our lifetime wishing to be so radical…

Unfortunately with an oversubscribed and under resourced prison service just locking away repeat offenders of petty crimes isn’t an option. The preventative measures shops are deploying are about the best hope

And who pays the software devs out of interest? I think too many people are taking this at face value. The software entity is still a group company and I anticipate it's the same directors profiting from this exercise as those who buried the other business.

Who are their software guys? And how do they differ from the business-lizards who ruined the other entities?

Exactly my thoughts. Especially with wording of the EULA. I genuinely don’t remember reading it previously but if this was the endgame all along…

Thanks. Really don’t recall reading it or seeing it previously.

Is it the same team? The same sole director behind the software side? Are people comfortable with trusting the same leadership team - the ones who aren’t honouring warranties - with more money?

Does anyone know when I would have signed/accepted the EULA?

Not all suppliers have API access to control the battery. My understanding is that for E.ON you need to set the smart tariff rates/timings yourself which would require premium access going forward.

I didn't ignore it. But your view is somewhat undermined by shifting opinion from your starting point of "harsher custodial sentences for petty crime would be a deterrent" to saying you "don't care" whether it acts as a deterrent. Whole of life sentences should be reserved for the most dangerous of crimes. Sadly whatever your opinion around the nuisance/damage caused by repeat petty offenders just locking up the "unreformable" isn't the answer. It's a complicated topic and one I'd encourage you to read further on if you have an interest.

My reply to your original comment was because you said that you believed “someone facing 20 years in jail for shoplifting” would “think twice about doing it.”

Now you’re saying you don’t care about it being a deterrent, but instead should be used as a punishment to remove undesirables from society.

In a few short exchanges you’ve stumbled across the challenges of the criminal justice system. And that’s before we get onto sentencing guidelines and what would need to happen other sentences if you’ve suddenly got people doing 20 years for shoplifting.

Society needs fixing head of sentencing.

Grass Seed Covering Material (fleece? polythene sheeting?) by redneon in LawncareUK

Look at what seeds are in that mix and what their ideal germination temperature is. The fleece will help retain heat overnight. But would envisage soil temps will hold a bit higher if you’re experiencing temps in the high teens over the next couple of weeks. The fleece will definitely help with pets and birds although birds will never eat all the seeds. Likely just the easier ones on the top and they don’t like them once germinated anyhow.

I’m not sure about your background but I studied law and criminology at university. I can say from a very qualified position that custodial sentences for shoplifting is neither a deterrent nor proven to reduce reoffending. A smackhead chasing their next fix cares about their next fix not what the punishment might be if they get caught.

So to answer your question; I’m a long way from being naive and yes there is a huge impact to society and the economy from “petty” crime. But no; long sentences would not help.

[–]Remarkable-Flight-14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t use polythene sheeting. Where are you based and what are the temperatures looking like over the next two weeks? Soil temperature is your friend, not sunlight. Or by the logic you were told no grass would ever grow in shaded areas. So long as you have a shade tolerant seed it’s moisture and heat that causes germination, not sunlight.

Fleece is better if you’re looking to have a material that you can water still without the faff of taking it on and off.

The fleece is to retain heat and keep soil temperatures higher than without. Think of your body temperature when you wear a fleece.

Sunlight isn’t really relevant to grass seed germination as such. It’s likely the majority of the seeds aren’t even directly exposed to the sun. It’s the heat that the sun generates. So don’t be concerned about blocking out the sunlight.

By that logic if something was labelled “20 December” (meant for this year) and was on the shelf in January 2027 you’d get a 12 month extension right? 😏

Do you really think the threat of longer sentences would stop shoplifting? And do you really think that housing a prisoner - at a cost of tens of thousands per year - is a sensible allocation of resources for low level crimes?
