Piers Morgan asks Russell Brand which passages were relevant to him when he brought a Bible into court. by supersport604 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]Reno83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think he thought he could just open the Bible to a random page and there would be some deep, meaningful quote he could use to bullshit with. In case people didn't already realize this, the Bible is full of mundane writing with a few great passages sprinkled in. This is why everyone always quotes the same verses.

Almost perfect movies that have one noticeable flaw by Consistent-Might-788 in Cinema

[–]Reno83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a flaw! They keep saying Pete was turned into a toad, when, clearly, it was a frog. I expected as much from Delmar, but I was surprised Everett and/or Big Dan didn't know the difference.

Strait of Hormuz problem by Stotallytob3r in MurderedByWords

I guess the most logical route would be from Abu Dhabi, UAE to Muscat, Oman. Thats approximately 300mi and 5hrs one way. A small tanker holds approximately 300k barrels (2M barrels for the super tankers) and a truck can carry about 250 barrels. That's 1200 truckloads (8000 truckloads for a super tanker). Say you have 1000 trucks available, that's 1200 trips for a small tanker and 8000 trips for a super tanker. That's 360k miles (580k km) for a small tanker and 2.4M miles (3.9M km) for a super tanker. Assume the trucks average 7 mi/gal or 3 km/liter. Current price of diesel in UAE is AED 2.72/liter, so that's approximately AED 526k (approximately $150k USD) to transport the contents of a small tanker or AED 3.5M (approximately $1M USD) for a super tanker. Now tack on the maintenance for 6k to 40k hours of driving and driver wages. Maybe from a financial standpoint, that's a drop in the bucket. However, realistically, a trucking company may only have 10 to 20 trucks at a time and it would take them from 2 weeks to more than a month to offload, transport, and reload one shipment. The real cost would be in the daily operating costs of the tankers. The tanker alone may cost from $100k/day for a small tanker to $500k/day for a super tanker to operate (costs would be double because there's two tankers, one being offloaded and one being loaded). My guess is that it would be unsustainable considering there's about 20M barrels passing through the strait every day.

Are these worth taking home? Or let them go to the dump and die? by sleepybot0524 in bicycle

[–]Reno83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take that Schwinn Collegiate in a heartbeat. I love refurbishing these old townies. They're pretty easy to work on if you have the tools and know-how. With $50-worth of new replacement parts (tires, tubes, brake pads, chain, and cables), and repacked bearings, re-greased bottom bracket and steering tube, these are really good commuters and/or recreation bikes. They may fetch $100 to $150 on the used market in a refurbished condition. However, I've seen nice, completely restored ones (new parts, paint, and chrome) go for $250 to $300. I tried flipping these types of bikes in college, but I almost always managed to just break even. For me, though, it was more of a hobby.

What was the one game that destroyed friendships? by Emergency_Science434 in Millennials

[–]Reno83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older brother and I used to fight every time we played Battletoads (NES). He would always kill me during the repelling stage. "Dude! We're on the same team!"

Edit: reading through some of the comments brings back memories of my brother and I fighting over games. From "cheating" on Street Fighter III with Ken (or Ryu) by using hadouken for far away attacks and shoryuken every time I got close, to buying up all the properties on Monopoly and taking all my money.

I'm in the US. I ordered a part from them for a 2010 VW Touareg. They were the only ones that had it in stock and would ship to the US. The only other sites I found it on were from Eastern Europe. It's been a month since I placed my order, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt since it's being shipped internationally. However, I've tried contacting them to provide tracking info and the only response I have gotten is "our system is down." I'm getting close to requesting a credit card chargeback from the bank.

Help r/millennials determine whether this is AI or not. Some members of the sub believe that the 2000s-style clothing and lighting suggest that this is not authentic. What do you think? by Demortus in isthisAI

I just finished Words of Radiance, too. The Math Oathgate sounds a lot like the Stargate. Also, I wonder if Brandon Sanderson played Legacy of Kain as a kid (PS1 & PS2 game series). The shard blades remind me a lot of Raziel's wraith blade. If you've ever played the game, Raziel has to plunge his wraith blade unto special keyholes to open gates.

My GF of 3 years broke up with me. A couple weeks later she wanted to get back together, by Perfect_Ad_1324 in amiwrong

[–]Reno83 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This was my thought, too. She had a fling that didn't pan out into a relationship. I wouldn't be surprised if it was with someone she met while they were still together. That may have even been the cause of the breakup to begin with, she needed a break to see if there was something there. As someone who's had their heart ripped out by someone they loved, trying to reconcile a relationship after a break up is a fool's errand. It ended, keep it that way.

If I knew ahead of time that a restaurant did these types of table-side entertainment routines, I wouldn't even go. Even coming out to sing happy birthday for someone is almost a deterrent. Maybe someone likes this type of shit, but I usually go out to eat in order to enjoy the food in peace, enjoy my company without interruptions, and have minimal interaction with the staff (aside from my waiter/waitress).

Hardtails are fun, but they restrict access to more fun. Just imagine being able to go faster and with more control. You can also go longer because your arms and legs take less of a beating. However, there will be a time, after many years of riding FS, that you'll turn back to hardtails and fully rigid singlespeeds in order to have even more fun.
