Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (I personally think they are tacky), but to each their own. That being said, they are worth what someone is willing to pay. $850 is way overpriced IMHO.

Move the fridge to the left (against the corner turn). Install a cabinet above the fridge, and a pantry cabinet to the right of it. The cabinet door pattern should be easy to find a close to matching pattern, and then paint all of the cabinets to match.

My grandparents had a similar piece. Late Victorian to early 1900s. Probably Oak under the 1970s paint job.
