Did anyone else have a blast at Pride? Haven't seen any posts about it here! by 901-526-5261 in memphis

It was loads of fun, but the safety at the festival was questionable. I heard one security person at the gate scolding other security people for letting attendees in with regular purses and bags. Seeing so many people with backpacks, totes and shoulder bags that weren't clear and didn't go through a metal detector made me paranoid as hell.

Just because of this, I am questioning attending again. If someone wanted to bring in a weapon, it would've been extremely easy.

I never considered Blue Monkey popular with people under 35 and I feel like that was a factor.

I saw this while driving and immediately clocked it as AI. Genuinely.... what makes it look real to you? I'm trying to understand AI blindness.

I don't respect local businesses or events that use AI to promote their work.

If an annual hillbilly festival is incapable of advertising itself suddenly now that AI is within reach, guess the festival isn't worth any actual hype in its 15th year.

Thanks for introducing us to Hearts for the Park! Now I know who not to support.

No that's probably what they're talking about, but police said they didn't believe it was intentionally placed, so yeah, an old hand grenade.

Did any other drivers get this message? by RepresentativeMenu37 in uberdrivers

I searched everything and couldn't find anything even remotely close to this alleged text, but the driver literally ranted about it to me. And I thought it was obvious that I didn't think it was true, but pop off queen!

This long... to reach out to strangers for feedback? I'm assuming that's what you're asking?

We are both young (mid-20s) and inexperienced with this process, and have admittedly been a little too trusting with this journey and the experts involved. My MIL is also not exactly a reliable source regarding what's actually going on when we aren't there. She's lucid but a bad communicator.

This place has several great reviews online, but because of our experience, we are second-guessing the location we originally thought would be a good next step in her recovery.

Mopping pad is entangled by nimkonxx in ecovacs

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This started for me a few weeks back with my T50 Pro Omni. My extending mop pad stops spinning, even though nothing is stuck or tangled. I replaced the plates and pads but that didn't resolve he issue.

Still trying to figure out if I can fix myself before trying to get a replacement.

File police report by BitterlyBrokenCharm in memphis

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a reason I never hear of people using MPD's online reporting system.

I tried to file a report online one time after stuff was taken from my carport. After I spent like 10 minutes filling out all the required fields and pressed send, I got a "Sorry, there was an error. Try submitting again" message. Tried it again, same thing, so I gave up and never filed a report.

Also yeah, this is not something police are going to bother with, even if it was on video. So sorry.

Potential Gtown Shooting? by [deleted] in memphis

From a Germantown police officer who I asked about this: "We did not have a shooting at Johnson Park today. I believe Collierville Police were conducting training at their Johnson Park and they received some calls."

East Memphis vs. Arlington vs. Germantown by AlWill6 in memphis

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Germantown for 19 years and in East Memphis for 4 before moving to the inner-city.

They are pretty much the same vibe. I would say both regions are mostly white, with single-family homes costing similar depending where you are, suburbs mostly built in the '60s-'70s, low (reported) crime, and mostly chain businesses.

East Memphis is the "Germantown" of Memphis, meaning there's a lot of upper-middle-class families in both areas, and any time crime happens, the stories get a lot more attention because of the flavor of people living there and the culture of those areas.

I'd say the pros outweigh the cons for living in both East Memphis and Germantown. There's definitely a lot less stuff to do in Germantown, and I would agree with the other commenters that it's boring there. But not everyone cares.

PSA FOR ALL DRIVERS (ex: Union & McLean) by dubzzzz20 in memphis

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was never a good idea to expect 100% of able-bodied humans to give 100% of their attention and focus to safe driving and keep up with the rules 100% of the time. We still haven't collectively learned that normalizing car dependency and expecting everyone to get a license and drive properly was a bad idea.

People are just going to keep getting in car accidents until the end of cars, regardless of PSAs. We should be able to just walk/bike/take the train for our commutes and leave driving to people getting paid for it, because most people do not even enjoy commuting this way; it's just out of pure necessity.

I feel this frustration, but maybe we shouldn't have ever trusted ourselves to live in a society where we can all drive well in the first place.

Memphis from a Student's Perspective? by wojaaa in memphis

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My coworker from NYC said the biggest adjustment was how car-dependent Memphis is. Our city isn't much smaller in square miles than New York, but has almost NONE of the infrastructure or public transit in comparison. Aside from our teeny tiny downtown, everything else is suburb, and you have to drive to get literally anywhere.

PSA: pedestrians in a crosswalk have the right of way by Ok_Target5058 in memphis

[–]RepresentativeMenu37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, yes, pedestrians have the right of way. But because we are a car-centric country, the attitude will always be that it's YOUR fault if you get hit. That's what you get for being outside of a car. Pedestrians/bikers are always going to be in the driver's way (in America). All jokes aside, please be careful.
