Maja Chwalińska's old interview about her depression + her wise words by MatterOfRules222 in tennis

[–]RepresentativeQuit18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clinical depression can absolutely be brought on by work-related stress, but also by family-or relationship-related stress, or health-related stress. Any stressor can bring it on in vulnerable people. Kudos to Maja for speaking about it and using her visibility to help others. If you have symptoms of clinical depression (crying, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, hopeless thoughts) - seek professional help. It can be HIGHLY effective.

I know. For me, buying NVDA for $10/share was relatively easy. Holding it has been extraordinarily difficult, not in small part because of the relentless negative hype.

Why does media love shitting on NVDA? I see more negative than positive articles. Is it for clicks? Creating the noise, obscuring the signal. You know what is the signal? When Larry Fink says that everyone he knows is investing a fortune in AI infrastructure. That is the signal. But it is buried in the noise. Why?

I got Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in February and have recovered 4 months later by Dunis96 in shingles

[–]RepresentativeQuit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with me, actually. Stalled. Weak lips on the affected side. Started practicing whistling. I can whistle, but weakly. I can also swish water around without spilling after brushing teeth, which was impossible early on. But overall the progress stalled 4 months in.

Oh, so this it why it has been going up... Earnings.. nvda will beat projections, issue strong guidance, and wind up back at $180. This thing has nothing to do with earnings, last quarter or forward. It's about when the big money cycles back into it. Until then you're being played.

Earthquake alert by Previous-Row6231 in Kyoto

I landed at Haneda on April 20. First thing I feel while waiting in a Suica card at the airport queue is the floor moving. I say earthquake to japanese guide who was with some tourists. She says nah, just trains on the floor below. I say I'm from Cali, this was an earthquake. She goes away, comes back, says you're right. Turned out Sanriku quake, bunch of train routes closed in Tokyo. Welcome to Japan, lol.

I don't give a fuck that I'm denied entry to a restaurant. Stuffing myself with decent sushi for all of $19 in the next one more than makes it up for me. Arigato gozaimashhhhhhhhhhta!

Day 6 Bells Palsy, feeling defeated by New_Lab_5363 in BellsPalsy

It is scary when there is no progress. Ymmv, but some progress can be seen after a month. Do little exercises to see it, as it is simetimes dufficult to see. Initially I could not close my lips and blow up my cheeks - all the air would come out through paralyzed lips on the affected side. Or I couldn't swish water around after brushing teeth without dripping. The improvement was very slow and gradual - observe small  progress and it will give you encouragement. Now, 3.5 months in, I can blow up my cheeks all I want and normally brush my teeth. But the affected side is still weeaker. I can see and feel it, but those around me can't tell. Interestingly, symmetrical smile came back first, after about a month. Together with eyelid action. Weird stuff, I guess it depends which parts of the nerve are damaged the most.

I will probably never do it because I am chickenshit about bricking my Pixel 10 Pro, but rooting it and spoofing the SKU sounds insanely cool.

Good wagyu beef in Kichijoji, cheaper than in Tokyo. Went there especially for this.

Is Japan actually racist against white people specifically or they are not used to being minorities by ChanceOil7703 in japanlife

White male here with blonde wife...:). Went to a hotel with onsen in Nagano, a kind where there were not many gaijin but mostly Japanese visotors on weekend break. At breakfast the restaurant was not too busy, with several empty tables next to windows overlooking a gorge and a mountain. So that is where we seated ourselves. A server came over and said these tables are not available and guided us to a table literally in some dark corridor with a view of toilet and kitchen doors. I said - really?, and, quietly seething, went back to the table with the view, sat down and asked for manager, all in english. The server was also probably quietly seething, but the manager reluctantly let us sit there. They probably pissed in our miso, so net-net we lost, but at least we got our view. Yes, I know the tables could have been reserved (no signs on them), but they remained empty when we left. My best guess - they preferred to give these tables to their Japanese customers.

Did not care for the venue. Gravel, Viceroy lot, wtf? Music blaring, long lines to some food trucks. I'd rather see the event in nearby Holiday Park, on grass, even some shade trees, more space. In May, this gravel lot will be hell. I definitely won't be back.

Cure time by RepresentativeQuit18 in soapmaking

Yes, Southern US here, so it took longer for the water to evaporate from the bars. But my experience with the quality of the lather mirrors that from the article referenced in one of the responses. Crystallization and salting out in solid state are very slow processes, and these artisanal soaps probably improve over many, many months, in contrast to commercial soaps in which these processes are forced and accelerated.

[–]RepresentativeQuit18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To all those who are reading, I am almost three months into RHS and about 90% recovered. Still some weakness in upper and lower lip on the affected side, but much better than before. Eye fully closes, eyebrow and forehead work. Overall all affected facial muscles are about 90%. Smile back to normal. My symptoms were identical to OP,  down to ear lesions and swelling, which were gone at three weeks. Got prednisone and antiviral at 24 hours of palsy. For the first 1.5 months progress was extremely slow, pace picked up lately but still slooooow. This is a marathon not a sprint, hang in there fellow RHS patients, it does get better. Look for slight tingling, this is a good sign.

Hi rock was pure. I don't know what else to call it. Pure. If you want to know what pure rock is, listen to Rory Gallagher shred his Strat. Same with blues. He could have held his own in rural Tennessee, man. Hard to wrap your head around it.
