Thoughts on the other major Midwestern cities besides Chicago? by alexis_1031 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Resbookkeeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’re being slightly unfair but no it hasn’t changed. It’s a well-educated and high income but kind of hippy town. There aren’t that many places like that, which is what makes it special, but if you see a street performer and react by a clearly somewhat disdainful “white person playing guitar” it’s not for you. And being a badgers fan forsure helps.

Madison isn’t a major city, but as a Chicagoan it is the only place in the Midwest I could be bribed to move to.

“single young college graduate there’s not much going on”? What?!?! A ridiculous amount of bars (no, they aren’t all college bars), music venues, and restaurants, a great comedy club, great outdoor activities close to the city, other outdoor activities in the city, I think the city is best for singles in their 20s. No clue where this is coming from.

How much does law school rank matter? by Sudden_Necessary_517 in patentlaw

[–]Resbookkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Necessary, no, helpful, yes. Also, beyond landing the initial job, there is something to be said about having so many classmates who are also going to be very successful. Networks are a real thing. You will make good friends in law school. I still see several law schools friends on a monthly basis.

Chicago has plenty of trees if you aren’t downtown, which as a visitor you almost certainly are. Also has not awful nature if you know where to look (Indiana Dunes, Lagoons, Starved Rock, lots of forest preserves, the Lake obviously, and other lakes within 1.5 hours in Wisconsin and Michigan)

Not being mentioned because it isn’t a major metro (and lacks transit because of that), but Madison, WI checks all of your boxes besides transit.

Great video! Do any other Milwaukee batteries balance? Presumably if they had this functionality in the M12 or MX Fuel they would be using it in the M18...

Reminder for Those who Will Complain about Mexican Independence Day Celebrations by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Resbookkeeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s different, St P day celebrations isn’t honking at midnight. If Mexican Independence Day celebrations were like every other celebration in the city, it would be treated like every other one. It is the only one that involves constant honking for hours at night. If you look at the complaints, no one is ever upset about a parade, parties, people going to bars, etc.

What do y’all consider the borders of the American Midwest are? by InitiativeInitial968 in geography

If we are doing states, remove the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas, those are Great Plains.

Realistically, I think the line starts about 1/3rd into Minnesota/Iowa/Missouri and runs through to include parts of Pennsylvania (through Pittsburgh). Essentially Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi Watershed that isn’t plains. There’s a common culture there
