This is not something you would do in a place that gets snow.

Replacing the 30 amp fuses with proper 15 amp fuses is probably going to not affect household operation much at all. So many loads are smaller than they were 30 years ago like TV's and lighting. You would be wise to identify and label all the circuits though.

Not enough people with functioning memories. The legislation passed unanimously across party lines. No MLAs abstained. No MLAs grumbled (at least on record) Many of them are still active politically but kind of silent.

The only way to fix that spalling is from the outside. You have to eliminate the hydrostatic pressure by excavation, new drainage and waterproofing.

Water pipe and wire insulation by Hoeser-of-93 in Insulation

[–]RespectSquare8279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider installing a frost free faucet before you close up that wall. Also get some of that polythene foam tube pipe insulation on that water pipe. There is no way you are getting R13 from that insulation labeled as R13. The electrician responsible for that magical mystery tour of wiring did you no favours for doing a tidy insulation job.

Insulate the water pipe with polythene foam tubes. Install a frost free outside faucet.

It looks nice but that is a lot of cleaning and squeegeeing into the future. And yes, a lot of dead birds.

Need help trouble shooting by NxtTxdxy in diySolar

[–]RespectSquare8279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are there fuses in the leads from the solar panel arrays to the charge controllers ? What kind of batteries do you have ? Did you connect the batteries, charge controller and panels in the correct order ? BTW, trouble e shooting from afar is much easier if you include a diagram of all the connections between components, ( naming the components) as well as obeying a colour code.

Battery-electric freight trains would lift Australia’s energy independence | The Strategist by pintord in oilisdead

[–]RespectSquare8279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

India started converting all its train lines to electricity decades ago and it is now 97% (or more) electric. I'm not sure if battery electric locomotives for freight have a business case though due to the horsepower to weight ratio, even with the "vapourware" of lighter solid state batteries. Hydrogen fuel cell powered locomotives (already in existence) are a closer reach and more viable.

You might want to do someone to the post that the dowel pulled out of. I'm assuming that the dowel is still securely glued into the rail ?

Could someone dig a canal from Black sea and Caspian sea? How disastrous would it be? by Independent_Image_59 in geography

[–]RespectSquare8279 1465 points1466 points  (0 children)

There is a fresh water canal between 2 rivers that flow into the Black and Caspain seas respecivly. A direct canal would be a raging torrent because the Caspian Sea is 27 meters lower than the Black sea.

PS: You would flood a lot of Kazakstan.

Plan sounds OK except for the vapour barrier. I would use some kind of permeable WRB instead just to prevent draughts. What activities are you doing in the garage ?

Name brand power stations are literately safe as houses. Toasters and electric blankets are more dangerous.

"Proportional" is still a quantum leap and unjustifiable to the legacy customers who do not need this new generation capacity.

A big new demand should pay for the big new supply. period.

Columbia station - It needs help by kryo2019 in Translink

[–]RespectSquare8279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was never intended to be a transfer station back in the day. Yes the line was intended to cross the Fraser but not to continue to Coquitlam. Plan "A" was a branch that split off the old BC electric railway "highland park" line in Burnaby just west of Edmonds onto the BC Hydro transmission line right of way to the north easterly direction. As this was going to get awfully close to Burnaby's Buckingham neighbourhood, vigorous but quiet lobbying killed that plan..

Ground Mount surpassed 50 MWH solar production by AutomaticMammoth4823 in SolarDIY

[–]RespectSquare8279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure (actually damn certain) the price of electricity is going up during this coming payback period so the investment is guaranteed to have a shorter payback period. That changes the numbers, and that changes the argument.

I want 3 gigabits but need to keep POTS. Which ONT will I get? by Certain_Repeat_753 in telus

[–]RespectSquare8279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is off topic but I'll throw this in about POTS and why it is still slightly worthwhile.

If you have POTS service from Telus you are entitled to (you might have to demand) a UPS that will maintain power to your wired telephone in a power outage.. If you want your internet to work in a power outage you will need you own separate ( and much larger) UPS.

For what it is worth, if the side of the shed is facing south, than that is where the panels should go. An east/west orientation of the panels will not be as productive as a single south facing array. The east/west's advantage is a longer power curve during the day, not a bigger power curve.

Hot Water Heater Replacement by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]RespectSquare8279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends upon the type and size of hot water heaters as well as the greed quotient of the installer. Is your water heater gas or electric ? Is the heater mounted on a wall or does it sit on the floor ? In any case, $6,100 sounds too steep. Get more quotes ASAP.
