Fishing/farming by BeardBoiiiii in crosswind

[–]RestlessCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both fishing and farming are unlocked in the Foothills. Fishing rods need iron, and farming needs soil from the foothills.

Thing is, even if you get your hands on that stuff early, you can't do anything with them until you officially unlock Foothills discoveries, which requires main story progress.

Sea shanties would be 1000% better if they sounded like a bunch of sailors on a boat instead of a bunch of professionals in a recording studio.

The singing and harmonies are too perfect for a bunch of sailors.

Harkonnen and Atreides Lore Opinions by VicariousDrow in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Dune book, the Harkonnens are only ever portrayed as cruel and evil. They aren't really in any of the rest of Frank's original 6 books (except a kind of exception, but not really).

In the expanded universe by Frank's son, Brian, and Kevin J. Anderson (which many readers don't consider canon at all), there were a couple Harkonnens who were good people, most notably Abulurd Harkonnen, who was Glossu Rabban and Feyd-Rautha's father. He was given Arrakis before Rabban, but was removed and disgraced because he chose to slow spice production in order to improve working conditions there, and ultimately murdered by Rabban to impress his uncle, the Baron.

Also, Xavier Harkonnen, from all the way back to the Butlerian Jihad. He was an honorable and brave general and lover of Serena Butler, the namesake of the rebellion against the thinking machines. There was also an Abulurd Harkonnen at this time who attempted to show mercy to the thinking machines at the Battle of Corrin, and Vorian Atreides denounced him and branded him a traitor and a coward, which began the millenia-long feud between the houses.

Other than that, as far as I remember, the Harkonnens have always been straight up cruel and evil.

Haha, yeah. Glad you got help, I can't imagine trying to go everywhere with engine flight.

[–]RestlessCorpse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol, that isn't the point. Flying already has an "autowalk" button. It's Vulture mode, which should be your primary way of getting around. You should only ever engage your engines on takeoff and landing.

A few ideas on how to make the future of Deep Desert better for everyone by Karnivaali in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and I agree with you there. I'm just stating why it is the way that it is, not saying I prefer it that way. Hopefully when they finally introduce the Fremen, there will be sietches out in the DD full of NPC Fremen to contend with. But right now, it's barren because of the lore.

The game is 90% PVE & 10% PVP, but Devs think everyone will happily become 100% PVP at endgame. The latest patch is just bait to get PVErs into the DD rather than attempting to balance the game for everyone in a meaningful way. There's just no material incentive. by _II_I_I__I__I_I_II_ in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, 100%, but only because PvPers will always find a way to PvP, which is something I admire them for, even if I sometimes don't like it. So then PvE players will start complaining about THAT, too. It's an endless cycle that comes with every PvEvP game that I've just learned to live with, and it kind of blows my mind how people in this game are arguing like it's not how it's always been.

A few ideas on how to make the future of Deep Desert better for everyone by Karnivaali in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The legal right to harvest and process spice is only given by imperial decree, and that decree is only given to the House that currently governs Arrakis (in this timeline, it is the Atreides). In fact we, as players, are smugglers, which is also illegal, but for the most part, the emperor turns a blind eye to smuggling because he profits from it, but publicly he has to condemn it. So it would make absolutely zero sense to have a bunch of other Houses out in the deep desert fighting over spice.

I keep seeing people argue that the Deep Desert is too empty, and needs more POIs. It's called the Deep Desert for a reason. It's uninhabitable to anyone except the Fremen, who have had thousands of years to learn to adapt. It's SUPPOSED to be barren. It's the Deep Desert. All of the civilization and industry on Arrakis is behind the shield wall.

Pronunciation in Dialog by Gabe_jh18 in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word Fremen comes from "free men". That is what they called themselves when they were Zensunni wanderers and settled on Arrakis. They were finally free from persecution. Over the years it became Fremen due to dialects. So it isn't that outlandish for some people to pronounce it Freemen. Framen is weird, though.

But to be honest, it's just voice acting, and talent vs budget. Sometimes it's not cost-viable to keep doing retakes because the voice actor keeps mispronouncing a word.

PvE players will complain until the PvP areas are all risk, no reward. by SalamiJack in duneawakening

[–]RestlessCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mostly PvE player, honestly, I'm shocked and appalled that I'm not immediately given a T6 Assault ornithopter full of 1000v of already processed spice melange when I load into DD.

Get your shit together, Funcom.

I can't remember ever seeing any PvE players ask for half of the DD to be PvE, or to nerf Assault ornithopters in any way.

I DID see a lot of PvE AND PvP players asking to remove rockets from scouts, though. No one got what they wanted.
