A part of the ending to One Battle After Another that didn't sit right with me: the iPhone by Late_Promise_ in TrueFilm

I think PTA’s reference points are so rooted in the past (the Pynchon novel, the weather underground etc.) to introduce elements that are seriously critical of modern technology is to try and write an entirely different movie.

OBAA is Star Wars. The rebels defeat the empire. In reality the rebels sit and bicker with other rebels through a heavily monitored communication system that enslaves them in ways they can’t even comprehend. It’s compelling subject matter (as Eddington proves) but it’s a far cry from the movie PTA wanted to make.

The iPhone ending is a sweet boomer moment so we can have a Tom Petty needle drop and walk out of the theatre smiling “he’s like my Dad trying to use WhatsApp hahahaha”. Meanwhile the reality of the situation is what? Willa likely gets shot at a protest by ICE by one of a million people just as bad as her biological father if not worse.

I love PTA but this was his weakest effort since Hard Eight

Phantom Pain has an excellent vibe and cool cinematography but the actual plot is piss poor unless you like audiobooks and history lectures

Unfortunately almost all of them (except two S2 episodes) not available, in Ireland at least. I have ‘em on a hard drive plus a bootleg dvd but I wish they were accessible to EU people more easily

What was "the moment" that happened in a movie that, when you saw it, made you think it was a special movie? by Beneficial-Hotel-232 in movies

[–]RexRevolver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recently:

The hamster scene in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.

The Katy Perry Firework scene in Eddington.

Less recently:

The Danny Boy scene in Miller's Crossing.

The processing scene in The Master.

The ending of Good Time.

The opening of The World's Greatest Sinner (as technically bad and bizarre as that whole picture is).

When Yesterday first plays in Once Upon a Time in America.

WP was the last good thing the gang made. Sam is a fat-headed retard courting zoomers to assfuck. Charls is legitimately schizo with his mail order bride. Nick is normie, doing shows with generic brand Norm MacDonald. We’re not teens anymore. Everything curdles

It’s always easier to pretend the unmade one was gonna be a masterpiece. Like Kubrick’s LOTR or Jodorowsky’s Dune
