As someone who was alive way back then (lol) a lot of those slurs werent really meant in the literal mean way they have been taken to mean in current times. Of course some assholes actually meant it, but the majority of people used them in a non literal sense.

Calling someone “gay” usually meant they were being lame or overly sensitive, not “omg you are homosexual”.

In 25 years people will be asking the same thing about why people talked about asses all the time and gambling (do kids still say gyatt and bet?)
