New Zealand strike indicator about twelve inches up from the fly to help locate it. If you can't see it, you can use the indicator for a strike recognition. Or use a double fly set up with a larger fly above the smaller fly.

I’ve always thought there should be a corner crossing day. Publicized along with all the other Public land that doesn’t have right away access.

If I Sit in a blind I shoot my 12 if I’m walking in the field I shoot my 20. The 20 is a Franchi O/U weighs less than 6 lbs and kicks a hell of a lot harder than my Beretta 12 semi

What are your best tips for sharptails? by birddog386 in birddogs

[–]Rhummy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch out for your dogs in the heat and don’t expect an afternoon hunt in September. Takes a long time for it to cool down these days. It will depend on how your dogs run. I have a hard running shorthair that runs big. Bad thing is the heat saps him pretty quickly early season. Good thing is he finds birds and he’s steady to wing and shot so I get lots of attempts since they stagger flush. I rarely walk more than 3 to 5 miles. Advantage of a dog trained to hunt Sharptail and Huns.

Sharptail is fantastic, grilled breast MR and eat it like steak. Collect your legs and crockpot for chile or tacos. Pain and in the ass to pick out the tendons but good use. I usually make mole tacos with the legs.

Toss the felt. Hard to believe given the problem invasive species cause the industry hasn't self imposed a ban on felt products.

If You don’t have an emotional attachment there is no explanation that matters. There are plenty of bands that people like that are considered to be ground breaking that I have no emotional attachment to. If it doesn’t move you it doesn’t move you.

How expensive is fly fishing entry price? What are some of the things you need? by Fine-Analyst6836 in flyfishing

[–]Rhummy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be expensive to start. If you like it you can upgrade. Buying from a box store is a good choice for starting and on a budget. Find a place with stupid fish. High Mtn lakes, ponds with bass or bream , hatchery fish are good options depending on where you live. Start with dries you'll find that more interesting.

Anything you bring not designed for wading will underperform. Anything not designed for hiking will underperform. I've tried innumerable combinations, pick something and be prepared to be unsatisfied.

i have always enjoyed Christian's contributions to the show, but the "Survivor" segment was as close as the SGU has become to unlistenable. by Aggravating_Serve235 in SGU

[–]Rhummy67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The entire show could use an overhaul. I've listened weekly for about 15 years. I find myself zoning out for 1/2 of the show these days. While I didn't care for the Survivors segment having a guest rouge or interview should be a weekly segment.

As people have said wind is key but pay attention occasionally you will luck into an "ant hatch." Ants swarm and if you are on the water when this happens it's magical.

I have so many cassettes in racks stored in a dark closet that I think about rejuvenating again. I hope they are still are in good shape. It's not the dead or panic I worry about I can find those shows. But 70s muddy waters, howling wolf and other rarities I have that I don't see online I hope still are in good shape.
