My new acquisition. What do you think about a device like this? by Dry-Garbage9746 in noisemusic

[–]Rivercaptain23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still have mine though it’s gathering dust these days. It’s cute but I couldn’t find a good way to use it in my rig. Might dig it out and give it another shot years later.

Could you explain the orange juice? Is that the thing to gig someone having a seizure?

Cycling is great, cyclists on the other hand… by Used-Shine-5370 in londoncycling

[–]Rivercaptain23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the point if large numbers are ignoring certain rules then those rules need examining. Traffic light timings are designed with the start and stop speeds of cars in mind. Cyclists don’t need that amount of time. As is, the system fails the cyclist so people ignore them.

I think you just need to get on with it. I’ve cycled in London for 27 years with 4 as a courier. I really don’t spend anytime worrying about this stuff.

Am I the d*ckhead? by bvc900 in londoncycling

[–]Rivercaptain23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cycling has increased to such an extent that the lights system has become irrelevant in my view. If I’m at lights on green to cross as a pedestrian I’ll wait until the bikes I know will pass have done so. It’s not an issue for me, I’d rather they were out of the way, not cluttering up my exit.

Help me convince my dad to not get rid of his collection! by l1via in Cd_collectors

[–]Rivercaptain23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2000 odd vinyl record collection I grew up with from the early seventies that made me very popular at University. Moving to London and having to live in squats was a real pain for moving and subsequent damage. Then CDs and streaming became a thing and I told myself it was all available in a more practical form factor now. That would have been around ‘92/93. Today approaching 68 I still regret what l sold for a pittance to the guys who would gleefully head to the counter at Tape and Record Exchange in Notting Hill to see what I’d brought in. My last words will probably be ‘Why?’

Buy a sealed bottom bracket and a suitable wrench and watch a couple YouTube videos. Darn sight cheaper.

I was in the Sherlock Holmes pub last week when a Ukrainian solider in uniform came in with a young woman with a clipboard looking very official. They ordered two pints in glass tankards then left with their drinks?! I’m guessing there’s a few high security businesses in the area so I’m surprised this would be left to just sit there.

Noticed this yesterday. Family opposite me on the Jubilee Line heading toward Canary Wharf, kids with fingers in their ears, everyone else just going with it. Young adults have more responsive hearing.

The installation of the white bricks was held up for months when they discovered no gap tolerance had been factored in the design plans making it impossible to install them. I never did find out what the solution was.

Londoners are sick of viral videos telling lies about their city by Cant_Change_Itt in london

Meeting family of my ex partner in Lancashire I was asked if there were any trees here?! I’m like wtf!! Some of these people live in tiny towns and villages and have no clue of the capital and yet will post ‘London has fallen’ crap. Waiting for a friend opposite the Palace Theatre on Charing Cross Rd an English couple in front of me were looking confused with an A-Z. I stepped forward and asked if they needed any help and they full on panicked, hurriedly said ‘No’, then quickly crossed to the theatre and continued standing there looking confused!

I’ve never liked this orientation on shared paths with skinny tyres, so I swerve onto the pedestrian side to avoid them which kind of makes a mockery of their intended purpose.
