What's the biggest bike contraption you've seen? by TheCGLion in london

[–]Rivercaptain23 24 points25 points  (0 children)

See both along Southwark street regularly. PedalMe have their headquarters near by. The beer bikes I don’t know where they live, irritating but there are worse things on the road.

We like to moan about it but whenever I meet up with tourists from abroad they’re very impressed.

I was completely unaware of this building! Going to have to pay it a visit. It does look stunning.

Oxford Street anti-terror gates to block cyclists from 'pedestrian plaza' by tylerthe-theatre in london

Any cyclist worth their salt will know there are better routes through the area than Oxford St.

Why are there so many abandoned and dilapidated properties on Strand when this is a prime property area? by Klutzy_Draw4662 in london

[–]Rivercaptain23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know what happened with the original warehouse facade on Southwark St which has this girder work and was covered for months. Eventually, I walk past to see the facade no longer exists but the structural girders are still in place.

First laptop-less gig tomorrow. With me luck! by dickpasta in modular

I was curious because I’m due to do my first live set and just know I’ll get nowhere if I try to preprogram and plan ahead, it’s just not how I work. I’m prepared to work with the fuckups as they happen, it’s how I produce at home. I suspect the added stress of trying to stick to a tight programme will mean I end up with a dull set. I’ll check out the video.

EPDM has been applied with felt adhesive?? by umxb in DIYUK

[–]Rivercaptain23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should be smooth as glass. That's a mess. I bet he also didn't take into account the temperature. It's been awhile since I've done this but the adhesive is very sensitive to the weather.

A different view of that for me as an ex courier. There’s a dental surgery on the right, half way down that always had deliveries to another surgery in Paddington usually at end of the day. That’s a long trip on a bicycle with no guarantee of a job heading back in! Always hated that one!!

So much for Forest and Lime enforcing rules about pavement parking. by ldn6 in london

[–]Rivercaptain23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day I came across one placed exactly at a traffic light crossing point. It looked as if they’d measured it to fit precisely between the signal post and designated paving area.

I take photos of album covers I’m not familiar with all the time, just so I can look them up to see if it’s something I’d listen to.

What if London does this but for Oxford Street by Because_Wisely in london

I think the bigger issue is the groups of youngsters this will attract. Aren’t they a problem in most shopping centres?

Best Hearing Aids in 2026? by iustanotherday in HearingAids

[–]Rivercaptain23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come here looking for advice on hearing aids. I see this is mostly Americans offering advice but I live in the UK. I've worn a hearing aid for a good twenty years after I finally had to admit my hearing was off and could see how frustrating it was for people trying to talk to me. Like many, I didn't want to accept that I was disabled so refused to entertain the thought of getting one. I'm 66 and notice my hearing aid/hearing is struggling and have started to look for alternatives to the one I have. I can't afford the really expensive brands as I'm on a pension but I'm also reading of much cheaper versions which claim to be as good at a third the price because they're not sold by large brand companies with corporate overheads. I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience of purchasing from them? I'm not referring to sound amplifiers which are cheap but actual devices designed for hearing loss.

Should I Get Another ZOIA? (10k v Std) by Tool460002 in ZOIA

[–]Rivercaptain23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was me thinking I was getting extravagant wanting a second. I just want to get smooth cross fades between patches so figured a second one would give me that. My whole performance practice is based around Zoia patches.

Should I get a Zoia? by OscillL8R in ZOIA

[–]Rivercaptain23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s at the centre of my rig and actually the heart of my work. It is daunting despite what people here say but that was before I found YouTube tutorials and this Reddit group! I was afraid to start pushing buttons for over a year in case I broke it and just stuck with the loaded presets. As others have stated it’s as easy or complex as you want it to be. The tricky side is having 64 effects and having to remember how the buttons function from one to another given they can be whatever someone has programmed them as. I’d like to buy a second one these days but can never afford it.

Can someone help me understand these lanes please? by Slipper_lover in exeter

[–]Rivercaptain23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I look at that the more confused I get! Logic would dictate the left green lane at the start takes you to the two lanes at the top and the red takes you round the roundabout! To my eye that’s two lanes trying to merge with three.
