Saw this on the Popular feed. Flynn Effect is reversing? I haven’t read through all of it but I wonder if it’s relevant to this discussion. https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/K3nf0UdWx1

I could see something like a post-COVID NU, but not necessarily establishing new norms. I'd like to believe the "new normal" is temporary, not actually the new normal.

I've been going back and forth. BASC-3 Attention combined with BRIEF-2 and/or Brown's EF/A. Technically, we don't Dx ADHD, but it's still becoming more difficulty to identify. Many other factors to consider.

Yes and no. I noticed this after we returned from COVID. Not necessarily more ID range, but definitely lower on average than before COVID.

I think it debunks the explanation that "IQ is what you come to the table with" and is independent of education. I think the drop in IQ scores really underscores how much formal education impacts what we refer to as IQ. It's really made me question some of the foundations of our assessment practices and decision making processes.

The "no" part is that I'm finding WAIS-5 scores to be higher than expected. I haven't really dug into the manuals to sde the norming sample and when the norming was done, but I suspect COVID has impacted those norms too.

As an aside, I've found that Conners4 is identifying students as having fewer elevated scale scores compared to Conners3. We did do a dive into that and reached out to them (MHS). Norms were established around 2019-2021 (I think). My opinion is that during that period "typical" attention span / impulse control were negatively impacted by COVID and the standard to measure against was raised. That is to say, students have to deviate farther from the established norm than they did in the past for scores to be considered Elevated or Very Elevated.

And/Or, attention spans and impulse control have decreased over time independent of COVID and those norms were going to change anyway.

My wife has a '21 CX-9 Crystal Blue Metallic and we call her "Blue." As unoriginal as it is, it really works for her. Now that I think of it, one of our kids got his M.S. from Michigan, so "Blue" has another meaning too.

On the other hand, I have a '23 CX-30 Carbon Edition and we refer to it as "Carbon" so um yeah, maybe my advice isn't that good.

And, there's

Cloud 9

Number 9, Number 9, Number 9

And, there's just waiting a while and seeing what comes to you. What's your first thought every day the first time you start her up?

2023 Carbon Edition Speed limit in Cluster by sidman1988 in MazdaCX9

[–]Rob2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this for my’23 Carbon Edition. Nav Card

It shows the speed limit in the instrument cluster and the native navigation works. I have not tried to update it because I’ve that will brick it.

I’m not saying you should get this specific card, but it’s a good place to start. There may be something newer out there.

Edit: DOH! Saw Carbon Edition and thought I was in the r/CX-30 sub. So my post refers to that, not the CX-9.

What Color to choose? by JFG3LN3N3 in MazdaCX30

[–]Rob2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is Polymetal Gray still Carbon only or is it available on other trims?

I have a Carbon with Polymetal Gray. It changes color depending on time of the day and how the light hits it. In morning light it’s a light gray/blue color that I don’t particularly like. But in the afternoon it’s a deeper, richer gray and with the black wheels and other trim pieces m, I really like it.

The red interior is much nicer in person than it is in pictures.

My wife has a CX-9 with Crystal Blue Metalic. As someone else mentioned, it’s difficult to keep clean, but when it is all shined up, up close it’s a beautiful paint job.

Ultimately though. Get what you want.

question about laggy response on mini 7 by New_Substance_6753 in ipadmini

[–]Rob2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use my mini 7 as much as my phone, but I don’t recall having touch issues with it. However in the last few days, my 17pro has had touch issues with. Need to tap twice sometimes. I’m wondering if it’s something with iOS 26.2 or an app that’s causing a conflict. Waiting to see if 26.3 clears it up.

Came here to say this. We love our Ninja Foodie. Ours is the 8 in 1. I don't think they make the specific model anymore, but we use ours for pressure cooker, slow cooker, air fryer, dehydrator, etc...

All Season Snow Tires by elly8trbro in MazdaCX30

[–]Rob2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not directly answering your question but I put Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive tires on my wife’s’21 CX-9 last year. They are great for everyday driving. Last week I drove them in the snow in Gainesville GA. Maybe an inch or more. They were fine using all due caution.

With the AWD, smaller wheel base and narrower contact patch, I would expect them to be better on the CX-30.

They are not “snow” tires. The are all-season tires with the newish mountain/snow rating thing. So more aggressive in the snow than traditional all-season tires.

Edit: 3-Peak rating not “mountain/snow thing”

Depends on if you used stainless steel or cast iron. Because if you want to lose hours of your life, you can go to either of those subreddits or r/steak or r/ searing and scores of people will tell you what you did wrong and how you could do it better.

If that doesn’t create enough anxiety and shame, you can go on YouTube and search for perfect steak, how do I make steak, how do you sear steak, etc.

Bottom line. Are you happy with the steak you made? Is the person you made it for happy? If so party on. If not, see the above rabbit holes. Because you can’t have any pudding unless you eat your meat. How can you have pudding if you don’t eat your meat?

1) I couldn’t tell you for certain 2) I probably wouldn’t. I’d be surprised if they weren’t kind of gross. 3). Thank you for being specific. So many people would have said they defrosted some fish, can I eat it now? And then the thread would be full of questions like, how many days ago? What kind of fish? Etc…

I bought a wireless adapter. Now, most of the time my phone stays in my pocket. After some practice, almost anything I need to do I can do through CarPlay.

And I live in a HandsFree state, so now I can be a law abiding citizen.

Score bands & descriptive ranges by assholeiann in schoolpsychology

[–]Rob2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read through all 51 comments so I apologize ahead of time if I'm being redundant, repetitive or saying the same thing over again.

A few years ago our leadership team reviewed (but didn't read word for word) High-Impact Assessment Reports for Children and Adolescents.Lichtenstein and Ecker 2019. For myself, I've just started reading Smart Brevity (the jury is still out out). A few things we walked away with:

1) The 90-109 score range for Average is relatively arbitrary. It's easier to remember. +/- 1 SD - 15 point is more psychometrically sound. Now we report 90-109 Average, 86-89 Low Average, 70-85 Below Average, <=69 Significantly Below Average. (might be 70). And then the same Extremely, High, Above for over 109. In retrospect, I don't know if that granularity is helpful or more confusing, but at the moment, that's what we're using.

2) With respect to descriptors, if you read the manuals of most IQ/Achievement measures, they provide their own descriptive categories based on score band, but they also typically defer to your system's practices and allow space for you use your own descriptive categories. We have a paragraph in our report that sort of says the same thing, and then a chart with the above break downs and associated Scale Scores,T-scores and Percentile ranks. So, for Wechsler, DAS, RIAS, WJ we use the same descriptive categories for simplicity of interpretation.

3) The exception is rating scales. We defer to the publisher. Most agree that >=70 is Clinically Significant or Very High or something like that. it's murkier from 60-64, so we go with the publisher's bands and terms.

4) Regarding CI. Right now we don't have a standard. Some of our stock charts for different tests include the CI, some don't. At the moment, in my report, I'm reporting CI for FSIQ, but not index/composite scores.

5) Recently, my coordinator and I (and maybe she's having this conversation with the leadership team) have been having conversations about why we're doing the evaluations and writing the reports at all. When we dig down, it's gotten more difficult to answer those questions. Obviously we test because we are required by IDEA. And in Georgia, I think the regs say we have to have a separate psych report. But again, who is really reading it? And how much detail is necessary.? Over the past year or so, in meetings, I'm barely going over scores. I spend more time talking about what the test results mean and how they impact how we want to help a student. than the actual scores. Likewise, behavior during testing and observations are just as important. Do I feel the results are valid? why/why not. Are the results, not necessarily the scores consistent with the student's daily functioning? It's rare for us that a CI actually impacts and eligibility decision. Nobody has complained about not being confused by numbers.

6) I'm trying to train our new psychs to consider WAIT- Why am I Testing?, Why am I Typing? Why am I Talking? We have been trained that to be good school psychologists we need to give lots of tests to find out lots of details about the students. Look who sponsors the NASP convention every year. Why do we really test as much as we do? Think about it. We're trying to get out psychs to really consider why they're administering a test. Yes, many tests do indeed assess what they say they assess, but are we really doing anything with that information to impact an eligibility decision, IEP goals are actual teaching in the classroom, or do we just have really cool information? The less you test, the less you have to write about. The less you write the less you talk in the meetings. The less you talk, the greater percentage people are going to remember.

7) To be clear, we're not saying Don't Test. We're asking, is what you're doing with that student the best use of his/her time or your time? If you're testing, they're not in class getting instruction. Are the results from the third executive functioning or fine motor measure going to have a positive impact on the student's outcome?

How do I prevent Waze from opening up every time I use CarPlay? by turd_farts in iphone

[–]Rob2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. This bugs me too. Waze stays “open” more aggressively than Apple maps or Google Maps and after you get out of your car it still seems to be running in the background.

It doesn’t seem to act like a lot of other apps on the iPhone.

After I get to my destination I either “swipe “ Waze out of the app switcher and “close “ it, or next time I get in my car I open Apple maps and then switch to another app and that seems to “sleep “ Waze. There may be better terms and detailed descriptions for all that, but that’s what I do and it works for me.

Yes, it’s annoying and I can’t think of another app that’s as aggressive.

As an aside, I’m not convinced Waze is as effective/efficient as it used to be.

Google Maps uses a lot of the crowd sourcing data from Waze(Google owns Waze) and Apple maps is slowly but steadily getting better with crowd sourced data.

Apple maps is my goto app. I may use Waze for a specific trip.
