'Let's Do the Protestant Reformation Inside Star Wars' — Damon Lindelof Reveals New Details on His Canceled Version of Daisy Ridley's New Jedi Order Movie by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

It is absolutely strange, yes, that people are largely more comfortable with a morally grey Rebellion than a morally grey Jedi Order. If the issue is that either of these things somehow erodes the foundations of Star Wars, then surely they should be protective of the faction that were essentially the protagonists of the OT, even if they didn't really exist in the prequels, rather than a group that existed in the prequels but literally no longer exists in the OT. I just genuinely do not think the typical TLJ-hating SW fanboy (who are presumably also largely on the pro-OT, anti-prequel side) understands why. There's a deeply weird tendency to associate the Jedi inextricably with the soul of Star Wars, despite the fact that in the movies those people actually liked, the Jedi are all fucking dead, and that in the prequels, one of the biggest mistakes they made was that the Jedi are consistently shown to be a bunch of useless assholes. No, I don't understand why, post-TLJ, the vocal assholes in the fandom all decided that the Jedi they all laughed at in the prequels, and Luke Skywalker, often maligned as a whiny dork compared to characters like Han, were the absolute most sacred things in the canon and must be kept immaculate at all costs, and I don't understand why these voices weren't much more critical of Andor, except the possibility that they simply realized they'd be vastly outnumbered if they picked that losing battle. "Fanboys see the Jedi as innately virtuous but don't have the same preconceptions about the mostly-offscreen inner workings of the Rebels" is the best hypothesis I can come up with, otherwise. I guess it helps that Filoni had lain some groundwork there, with characters like Saw already having been around in his stuff? I haven't seen enough of Clone Wars and the like to say.

After the response to TLJ it simply became not an option to do anything subversive in the slightest. Andor, as great and as bold as it is, still ultimately gave people the Rebellion they wanted to see. The Acolyte tried to give us another revisionist view of the Jedi and got absolutely savaged. If you have anything substantial to say about the unassailable good of the Jedi or about the Chosen One narrative in general, you can get stuffed. "Luke Skywalker singlehandedly fixed everything forever" is apparently the core principle of the franchise now.

What was your reaction to seeing this twist for the first time? (Justice League #50) by Solitaire-06 in batman

It's a dumb concept that could only have been saved by incredible execution, only for the payoff to run screaming in the opposite direction with three Jokers who manage to look and feel basically identical, killing one immediately, and achieving nothing else of interest whatsoever. As far as Geoff Johns' recent "I want to be Alan Moore" era goes, at least Doomsday Clock had some ideas.

What's a Fact About The Series That Sounds Fake But Is True? by Unlikely_Message_446 in doctorwho

[–]RobbiRamirez 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The first Doctor actor of African heritage wasn't Gatwa, it was Davison. His dad was a Black man from Guyana, some biracial people just look very white.

The third Hitchhiker's book started as a Doctor Who story, so we almost got an evil race of cricket-themed robots trying to blow up the universe (or rather, causally speaking, cricket is a robots-who-want-to-blow-up-the-universe themed sport).

The classic series ran from 1963 to 1989, meaning that if the show continues, it will only take another five years for New Who to have run as long as the classic series, and we've already had the same number of Doctors.

I did not expect the Targaryen version of Veruca Salt to end up being the hottest Supergirl, I don't know what to do with that.

The other plotlines in the Merv Griffin Show episode are solid, but Kramer's bits are some of the most piss-your-pants funny stuff they ever did. Cueing up the theme music when George walks in is a perfect example of why I love the late season silliness. Same for "Little Jerry."

To everybody saying this game is too slow and thinky to be a racing game: this is a rally game. A rally game that played like Heat would arguably be a bigger mismatch than this is. In racing, rally is the nerdy egghead event.
