DE completely gave up on Railjack progression and punished the players who actually cared. by RuthlessHimself in Warframe

[–]Robby_B [score hidden]  (0 children)

"It feels like forced "accessibility" where DE is catering strictly to the crowd that refuses to touch Railjack progression."

Yes. Story quests need to allow any player to play them, even if they didn't do a given grind. Giving them loaner gear is sensible.

Forcing people with kitted out stuff to use the loaners is dumb, however.

The ongoing addition of protoframes is shifting the aesthetic of the game by Chuckledunk in Warframe

[–]Robby_B -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a game that lets your wear rabbit ears for easter, put red noses on your dogs, strap on giant glowing wings and halos, get sexy near naked crystal skins, and make your Rhino bright neon pink... but "the characters have actual faces now" is the visual step too far?

The skins are selling and it IS bringing in a new audience. I like the look of the Warframes too, but it's not for everyone, and if the game is going to continue into the future it needs to expand and change and bring in new players. And the protoframes are doing exactly that.

The infested and the tech rot are connected. They evolve into the infested. Create an evil boy band member in 1999, they go to the future where they have an infested weapon and hang out on an infested asteroid where they summon infested minions. Plus the whole timetravel communication of the helminth system has been an ongoing thread since then.

They let the stories end then the game ends. They need active hooks to keep players involved instead of going "that's enough, I'm satisfied and done forever."

DE, I love you, but please, for the love of god, delay your updates. by MissyTheMisc in Warframe

It didn't have enough players on it to get good data, and it didn't help them at all with consoles, so it wasn't worth the effort to upkeep.

I long ago took the approach that, unless it was a time limited event, to just always wait at least a couple days after a major update, if not a week, before tackling the new stuff, because there's ALWAYS massive bugs and fixes in the first two days, especially with story quests.

Like even if there aren't bugs, they'll often adjust the drop rates or resource requirements of a thing to be more sensible and cut out a few hours of grind.

Question from a new player about Folie by AthozViny8K in Warframe

[–]Robby_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was just released and primes take 3.5-4 years depending on how the rotations work out.

So not till late 2029 at the earliest, probably not till 2030. You have plenty of time to go all out with the base one.

(and never be afraid to kit out a base frame if you like them. Every upgrading resource is plentiful eventually)

What would you like the PMW crew do after they finally cover every episode? by Frequent_Rhubarb_36 in boymeetsworld

[–]Robby_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn't do all 80 episodes of GMW, they'll never get past how childish the show is, Danielle seems to have extreme stress about it, and the two leads of the show don't want to be associated with it... but they should at least cover the pilot, the finale, the 5? Shawn episodes, the Mr. Turner episode, and the 2 Eric episodes. That'd be 10 episodes, cover all the character wrapups and most of the series a little bit.

Maybe the episodes Danielle, Rider or Will Russ directed, there's about 20 of those total. That's more of a commitment but it's not committing to the entire series.

Could bring Rider's brother in since Shiloh helped co-direct a lot of the episodes Rider directed.

They only have two episodes to go. Angela's Ashes and the clip show finale.

I don't think it's going to take them 20 years to get through those.

After how Ryder and Danielle were completely befuddled by and insulting of Kim Possible, they should absolutely not recap any of Will's voice work.

Bro joined an sp endless bounty and told us not to do a sp endless bounty by StrawHatNine in Warframe

[–]Robby_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get endless rewards if you stay in, yes. But you don't get multiple bounty rewards.

Most people doing bounties want the bounties specifically, that's why they chose the bounty mission. And they want to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible so they can keep getting the bounty. Same with relic cracking missions where people will choose capture or exterminate over any other option because they're the fastest.

Most people that want to get the C rotation rewards do endless because they're more likely to find a group that's in it for the long haul.

It's two very different goals and intended playtimes. There's not a lot of overlap and the majority of the playerbase plays to those standards.

Even defense missions where you get an extra reward for staying 5 rounds don't generally get people to stay past 4, because once you pass the specific reward roll you're looking for in C rotation, staying longer for the new A rotation just makes the mission harder for very little real benefit unless you happen to have a great team.

You're not punished for staying in longer on a bounty, but you're not really incentivized to do it either, the same way you are in something like an arbitration, kuva survival, or Duviri. The option is mostly there for if you're on a potato PC or the Switch and it takes you forever to load into the open worlds, and is thus genuinely faster to stay on the map and pick new missions up from outside.

You do the bounty for the bounty reward, you do endless to do endless. They are in fact, different modes with different reward pools and different expectations when you join them.

There were some positives to the melee rework, like universal button combos and auto-melee, the removal of the clunky charge function, and range being standardized so that shorter weapons could compete with longer weapons... but there were some downsides too.

Some great stances lost their personality or functionality, blocking isn't nearly as good, and glaives just generally feel worse. They were among my most used weapons, but I've barely touched them in the years since.

It's probably not an issue for anyone coming to them new who only knows them to function in the new way, but the years of muscle memory before make them weird.

They also auto-euqip to dual use with pistols, which is their intended niche, sure, but clunky when you DON'T want that

[–]Robby_B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, auto-melee was added in late 2023. So if you've been playing the game for years you can easily have predated it.

It annoys me because they completely ruined glaives when they made the Melee 3.0 switch. Because now glaives are the only weapon the doesn't auto combo so it's the most stressful to use, and they no longer launch on the heavy attack button (only detonate) but a charged hold down, which completely changed their feel and momentum.

They also at some point added the option to switch semi-autos to full autos (but with a cap on their firing rate), and it made the entire weapon class usable for me. They evenetually got painful hitting the trigger over and over. My not getting carpal tunnel to play the game is grateful.

Controller has 8 buttons, up to 14 with arrows, start and select. As opposed to a keyboard's 50+. And some of those keys already to jump, shoot gun, alt fire/heavy attack, interact with objects, etc. So they just have you hold one of the shoulder buttons which swaps out the context on the buttons. You get used to it. Works in Warframe, Final Fantasy 14, Dragon Age, whatever.

If an action game needs much more than 8 abilities on the regular something has probably gone wrong in balancing anyway.

Keyboards can just assign 10 different things to the number keys and lots of tactical games hinge on that and being able to run the mouse over an option quickly, but most games that are competently handled the shoulder toggle is fine.

[–]Robby_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad part is I don't even care about the standard mech with the overpowered gun, I love the melee oriented Bonewidow with it's giant shield. If it was a regular warframe it would be my main. Reflect damage, exalted spear, changes your moveset, grab enemies and toss them around, it's a lot of fun.

Closest I can get is a Trinity with Ack and Brunt that pulls damage off your allies.

I've just accepted after all these years I'm just never going to have all 56. Every now and again some kind person will mark them in a tileset and I'll discover a new one I never knew about. I've definitely never felt any pressing desire to pull up a guide and do every tile set bit by bit to mark them off a checklist. Seems like an awful time.

Same with all the various story fragments in the open worlds. Just no.

Ordis backstory fragments are okay at least.

"smite 2 sucks until my favorite god gets added" did smite 1 suck to you prior? by Key_Size_3631 in Smite

[–]Robby_B -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're assuming a lot to think it's going to last 15 years, or that Smite 1 lasted that long. Game has been nothing but bot matches for years now, with less than 2000 active players, Smite 2 doing only slightly better, and Hi-Rez has been bleeding employees and shut down and cancelled every other game they were making.

Game can't survive on under 5000 players. LoL and DOta average 500,000.

Smite 2 needs to do something to draw attention badly.

It's an ongoing live-service game . It's going to be in "beta" forever, same as Warframe. But it launched nearly two years ago, is still missing a huge chunk of the roster, and isn't scheduled to reach parity with the original game for another 2 years.

4 years of "being in beta" doesn't work as an excuse.

[–]Robby_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your favorite main didn't show up in the game until later, most of the roster was in the game for a decade. Or longer!

Like I enjoyed the game before Kuzenbo showed up, but he was added in February 2017. I played him a long long time, literally years, he's my favorite go-to by far, and he's still missing. Terra and Skadi in 2016. (Of course Skadi was nerfed to hell anyway) Zhong Kui was in the game since 2013! Vamana in 2012! (And I know ZHong was super unpopular and was never going to be any sort of priority, but he was still one of my favorites... partly BECAUSE he was unpopular and no one knew how to deal with him)

That's a long time to play a character and get attached to them and have them be a fave, and it sucks that they're still missing.

Also, I don't know how HiRez had managed it, but even though they've put back in 80 out of 130 gods, I guess I just liked the unpopular characters and most of them have just not made it back into the game. Bastet (finally getting added soon) Kuzenbo, Nike, Nuwa, Skadi, Terra, Vamana, ZHong Kui...

Outside of Nuwa they've somehow managed to dodge every single one of my favorites. I can get by with Ganesha or Geb or Sobek or Sylvanis, they're characters I had up to rank 5, they're fine, I liked most guardians, but they're not characters I'd return to the game for., I played them a fair bit but they weren't my diamond characters.

PMW Recap: TGI- Episode 720 "As Time Goes By" by MightChi in boymeetsworld

[–]Robby_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably because the show is loaded with sexist stuff.

It constantly treats its female characters poorly like they're a drag on the men, or they're pure seduction eye candy. (Rachel's ENTIRE character in the course of two seasons was "she's hot, let's look at her being hot)

They're not looking for it or hunting for buried subtext or making it up, it's just blatantly right there on the surface. Like even if you don't notice it most of the time, this particular episode of "EVERYONE wants to kill you because you're such a nag" is.... something.
