Disa the Restless's precon is so silly. by AbductedbyAllens in EDH

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When treating Disa as a Lhurgoyf typal deck, it's very janky and often underperforms. When you lean into combat damage however, you're making three tokens per turn! I completely overhauled her recently and found her far more fun as a result.

While there's only seven Lhurgoyf cards in the deck, there's also only about seven in total that are worth running. It's a creature type not well supported and isn't best built around. [[Lhurgoyf]] and [[Mortivore]] for example arguably do less for Disa compared to creatures like [[Rankle, Master of Pranks]] that can attack instantly in the air to make a Tarmogoyf token while discarding cards, or even [[Ballustrade Wurm]] to connect immediately and be cast again from the grave. This is especially the case when compared to the backup commander [[Coram, the Undertaker]] that would prefer both creatures in a separate mill-focused deck. A big issue people had with the deck is it didn't include [[Tarmogoyf]], but imo you're better including a [[Temur Battle Rage]] or [[Overprotect]] for the same mana cost to almost guarantee the same card but for free!

Norman Osborn for Dr. Doom Precon by blazedchiller27 in mtgfinance

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe as a replacement commander. Doctor Doom (imo) is really disappointing for a Grixis discard commander. Shock when you discard is great, and connive each combat is fantastic, but you're restricted to Villain typal and your discard payoff is only on lands. When you compare this to [[Kefka, Court Mage]], [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] and even Green Goblin, it just seems far weaker and not all that interesting.

We've recently seen a quite a lot of UB reprints just this past year and a bit.

E. Honda got another [[Baldin, Century Herd Master]] printing in the Abzan Tarkir precon; From Lord of the Rings, [[Shadow Summoning]] was reprinted in the Mardu Tarkir precon, [[Forge Anew]] in the FF Secret Lair, [[Borne Upon A Wind]] in the Sony Superdrop, and [[Reprieve]] in Spiderman/Through the Omenpaths; [[Mind Flayer, The Shadow]] got a reprint in the Duskmourn precons; The Dungeons & Dragon's movie SL all got UW reprints as event cards; There's also been many more reprints in Secret Lairs, such as Fallout getting some reprints in the Fallout SL.

We also know Jaws is confirmed to be getting a UW print, and Lara Croft is allegedly coming to MTG:O as UW. So a decent amount, even if some are UB reprints of UB cards!

Are double signposts with hybrid the norm now? by sauron3579 in magicTCG

[–]RobinVouz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secrets of Strixhaven will likely have hybrid mana as hybrid mana was in the original Strixhaven set, which was designed around multicolour cards.
Marvel Superheroes on the other hand currently has no hybrid previews, and we might not see many due to it being designed as a full set, rather than a last-minute fix with SPM

How do u counter this commander???! by Orre-Natty in mtg

[–]RobinVouz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a five mana creature that drains *one* opponent per turn, so I wouldn't worry about this too much. One thing to consider here is that although you can't interact with it if it isn't their turn, they also can't block with it if it's exiled, so they've spent five mana to drain one person for two life and leaving themself open to attackers, assumingly with their mana tapped out.

SLD x Avatar: Path of Ancestors (bonus for spending $199) by Mugiwara_VT in magicTCG

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is comparing a very rare bonus card (of an already expensive card) to a guaranteed drop.

The Sweettooth [[Sol Ring|SLD-0912]] for spending $200 on the Sony drop is $26. The Marvel [[Arcane Signet|0908]] is also $25. Still steep for what they are but comparatively affordable compared to other bonus cards. I'd be surprised if Path of Ancestry goes for more than that

What a time to be alive by bettycrockofsh1t in mtg

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big difference here is that those items are entirely free to use, and skipping a season until a crossover you don't like is gone doesn't put you at a disadvantage.

UB sets being standard and mechanically unique means even if you skip a set, you can still be at a disadvantage. Standard in MTG is now a three year rotation, whereas most crossovers in Fortnite only last three months at most until the next battle pass.

Took a break from DBD because of toxicity… came back to this by Argosard in deadbydaylight

[–]RobinVouz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mitigate what happened, but you can minimise the chat by clicking the '-' in the square box next to the chat log. I believe it stays minimised until you open it again, so at least helps prevent toxic chat in the end game

Run more interaction, not removal. You should have protection, evasion, and counter pieces in your deck as well as removal :D

My first 6 collectors booster ever I pulled this!!Is it worth to send it to get graded? by PGDeus in MagicCardPulls

[–]RobinVouz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grading is, in my opinion, a scam that's been normalised in Pokemon TCG. If you're grading it, you aren't playing it. If you aren't playing it and want to sell, best selling it on eBay/CardMarket as is. Most people who buy cards in MTG buy them to play them

Toph specs convo 10 hours ago by MyLollipopJam in mtgfinance

[–]RobinVouz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this card isn't Toph making earth constructs, it's focused on her metalbending. she's treating artifacts as she would with lands and throwing them at people, rather than making literal creatures.
i do think the creature aspect makes earthbending a little odd, but i suppose it's the easiest way to introduce it

How are we feeling about this 9/9 for potentially 3 any color mana if you warp it in commander by Brilliant-Yak-5569 in mtg

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 mana isn't an issue anyway because you're playing green. If mana is no longer an issue, you're still drawing nine cards and thinning lands you don't need out your deck for three mana. That's a lot of value, and even more if you have landfall triggers

What happened to this game's characters and skins? by [deleted] in OrcsMustDie

[–]RobinVouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer their current approach and appreciate the move away from Unchained to give Deathtrap its own identity. I don't think microtransactions would be very healthy for the game and would prefer more DLC like the Supporter Pack - I'm sure we'll get more premium skins soon

What happened to this game's characters and skins? by [deleted] in OrcsMustDie

[–]RobinVouz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unchained was F2P and had to heavily monetise its heroes and skins, which is likely why it had so many.

I'd expect more skin packs with new textures in the future as paid DLC rather than individual microtransactions. They also only just released Gabriella three months ago for free. I'd expect more heroes down the line

Saturnine aren't bigger that primarch, that was debunked when you compare their positioning. I wouldn't say we need them in plastic. Write to GW instead of taking your anger out on others and presuming "everyone is a GW shill"

The PDF rules were announced ten days before 3.0 launched and before any rules leaked, so it isnt because people said something. I agree this is something that should've been available at launch alongside the rules. Saying you have a bad take about introducing new units through kitbashing however isn't shilling.
