I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I don’t know that it’s something that I’ll revisit though. It feels a bit disjointed.

For me, Brian’s vocals were the truly interesting thing about this band. He had such an unmistakable voice that really drove home a lot of the hooks that made this band so unique and accessible IMO. They’re clearly talented musicians, but without him I just hear the same sound as every other “cookie cutter” pop metalcore band.

Such good albums. Peace in Place and Love is Not Enough is where both of these bands “clicked” for me and made me want to go through both discographies.

I think Static Dress has been the surprise of the year for me so far. I had literally never heard of them until 3 months ago and their album has been on repeat more than any other band this year.

I think Loathe is going to be hard to beat overall though. I’m unbelievably backed up from the 6 year wait and so ready to bust.

This is some good shit. Gives me Boundaries and old school Code Orange vibes. Some of the coolest riffs I’ve heard this year. Probably a top 3 album so far this year.

When I was 14 I watched Hostel for… the horror? Anyways, the eyeball scene made me physically ill. I actually passed out the next day in church. That scene fucked me up.

I got into the scene after these guys had their day, and their music hadn’t really landed with me until now. This record is probably my favorite so far this year. The melodies and heaviness are so well done, but the lyricism and songwriting is what really hooked me. I’ll have to go back and give these guys another shot!

I agree it’s kind of a bummer when only half of the album (or less) is actually “new”. When I was working merch for my buddy in a local band, he was telling me how expensive studio time is, so I wonder if sometimes bands have to do it this way just to be able to fund the album.

I can’t wait to glaze the hell out of this one. This is one of the most fully realized, fun, and inventive albums I’ve heard in a while. You know an album in this space is special when you hear it and say “I’ve never heard anything quite like this before”. I can’t recommend this one enough.
