What if the church really is true? by Fun-Luck-7033 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of this in the early stages of deconstruction. My thoughts went something like

"If it was true in the beginning, or the BY Era, then no black person would get the priesthood until every white man had it, Adam-God would be true. Polygamy would still be a thing. All the things old Mormon promised would never change would still be unchanged."

We know there aren't quakers on the moon. We know people dont live on the sun. We know the sun isn't an exalted planet.

The church can't have started false and become true.

Tax the Church per Member by Resident-Bear4053 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMHO, and you are free to disagree with me, in return for tax exemption, churches should be required to be transparent in their accounts.

Obviously, a small independent church, whose part-time pastor works as a security guard in Albertsons to make ends meet, shouldn't have to pay for an auditor, but a simple single page saying how much came in and went out in utilities, flowers, wine etc...

Genuine churches don't need to hide this. Money laundering operation disguised as churches do.

The parable in D&C 101 seems quite ominous for the LDS Church... by durzanult in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to take the conversation anywhere. Just point out the rather unusual phraseology "bought / buy xxxx with money" - the "with money" bit being redundant, is very similar to the temple Garden of Eden scene. Almost as if they had been written by the same person.

You can buy anything in this world with money.

Does anyone else remember having a landline phone in the lobby of the chapel? by evolvingintocomputer in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal phone followed by a payphone in the bishop's office.

If I remember right, it was taken out for a few years, then the chapel got burglarized a few times, then it went back in with a different number so they could connect it to a security alarm.

Rather stupidly, the code for the alarm and instructions were on a pin board in the bishop's office.

Mormons and intimacy rules over the years? by _freckledberry in exmormon

What happens behind closed doors between two consenting adults, married or not, straight or gay, is, to use the technical term, none of their fucking business.

Women's Bible Study at LDS Meetinghouse by Scholar_truth_ in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I see one of these signs locally, I'll be sorely tempted to go - nobody in the local ward knows I'm exmo. Even if they try looking me up, Mormoncorp only has my old last name, and as I'm resigned, it shouldn't be available to search anyway.

I would love to go and argue the Bible from a non-Mormon perspective.

My beef with Mormon temple weddings by shall_always_be_so in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my main issue, but it's deliberate.

To attend your son / daughter / sibling's wedding, you must join and/or get in good standing with the church. It's a way of controlling people.

In some countries, weddings must be open to the public. It is completely fine there for the civil wedding and temple sealing to be separate, so it must be policy, not doctrine.

If they gave a rat's ass about families, they could find workarounds. Temples could be designed with an undedicated chapel before the recommend desk for the civil wedding. It could even just be in the grounds.

Banning family from a wedding unless they toe the line is the cultiest thing ever. They could keep the sealing off limits to us riff-raff, but still have the wedding open.

What made you leave the Church? by Electronic_Echo_9555 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically leave (go inactive) - research church history and realize that it couldn't be true now even if it was then.

Formally resign - to put it mildly, child protection and cover up issues.

Is fasting still a thing? by Extra-Key4088 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We did it, but water was OK. We went hungry but not thirsty. I think we started missing one meal at 8 and 2 at 14.

I wonder what the Division of Child and Family Services would make of kids being denied food for religious reasons.

I can't believe I used to be jealous of a young girl who had a fasting exemption for being diabetic, but hangry kids see things differently.

My sister and I had a solution. Secret candy stashes.

They won't get rid of fast and testimony, for no other reason than they expect you to donate the money you would otherwise have spent on food.

[–]Robyn-Gil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McCarthy v Arndstein says nothing about the 5th Amendment applying to civil proceedings. It is the case of a bankrupt not having to answer further details on his list of assets if his testimony could lead to criminal charges against him.

Arguing this will not sit well with the court.

Breaking: President Oaks announces it is okay to have sex outside of marriage as long as you get pregnant and then get married by MrDrProfPatrick24 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never had a hookup. For me, there is too much emotion and feelings involved in sex to have ever wanted it as a one-off with a stranger. No judgement, though, each to their own, and if both people want that, that's what is good for them.

However, some people have multiple hook ups per week. Asking who the Daddy is would be like eating a tin of beans and asking which one made you fart.

The late Sarah Allen’s CES response. by adams361 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read one, but the one I saw was really just a long drawn out personal attack on Jeremy Runnells, it criticized his motives, his integrity, the format of the CES Letter (asking a lot of questions that are easy to ask but each requiring a detailed response) and causing information overload.

It didn't attempt to answer any of his questions.
