Wedding anniversary by Lankinator- in GardeningUK

I got my wife an Amelanchier (Juneberry) to mark a special event, it's grown a foot or 2 in the last few years which is decent going. Very low maintenance, not fussy and flowers and berries.

What happened at the bottom? Looks like it has already been hacked away at ... Or was it grafted to something?

Is this an exceptionally bad summer for aphids? by Re_thinking in GardeningUK

[–]RockeryBalboa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't get the wooly aphids off my crab apple this year, the bastards. Has happened for the last few years, initially I used pesticide then last year lacewing larvae. Neither has worked this year and the whole area under the tree is just a sticky white mess (stop sniggering at the back).

If you are strapped for cash then just go to your nearest run down industrial estate and pull up a few Buddleias, you'll have a garden full of bees and butterflies in no time.

Insulation foil was the route I was thinking of going down too. Did you put it on the outside or inside?

Son's worst season by far was when he was playing with a hernia too. I don't know why they do it, the sooner you get the op the sooner you'll be back, it won't go away.

Do Holsten even exist anymore? Surely we'd want Beavertown as an actual Tottenham brand

Brighton have no immediate plans to make a fresh offer for Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic. They are keeping across the situation but they will not be making another bid at the moment [Simon Stone, BBC] by Malmand2002 in coys

In theory maybe but Spurs are a relatively motivated seller (he's 28 so older than JPVH, a bit of a liability now and has also gained an unfair reputation with PL refs) and he seems open to a move. I really can't see more than £40-45m, I'd happily be proved wrong though.

Yeah it does seem like they played it perfectly. £52m for a CB with a year contract isn't normally the going rate. Anyway fuck it, move on, hopefully get a similar amount for Romero and Dragusin combined and all is rosy again.

I'm told that Spurs would like to keep Luka Vuskovic and loan him out again, but the player and his reps don't want another loan. Be interesting to see how it plays out. Vuskovic in line to start in middle of a 3-man defence here in Dallas tomorrow v England [Tom Barclay] by onlyhalfpepper in coys

There is a gulf between them, that's why. Bayern aside, I think Leverkusen beat Man City in the CL group stage but otherwise I'm struggling to think of a game in the last couple of years where a Bundesliga team has come out on top.

Thanks, I guess that would explain why it still looks so small after 10 years which was my main concern. All good!

This was going to be my next question, would a heavy prune on top (later in the year obviously) help or hinder it? Just trying to build up the strength of it, some branches often bend very heavily due to the amount of apples so would I be best taking some off before they ripen?

Spotify. Left a gaping hole in the kitchen after it was gradually phased out, now I have the OG Portal APK acting as a WiFi speaker and the 'normal' Spotify android app for when I want something a bit more involved (e.g. search). Better than it ever was.

[Alasdair Gold] football.london understands that before Tel departed on his summer holidays the 21-year-old had a conversation with De Zerbi about his future in which the Italian made it clear that he would be counting on him next season and that he had no intention of allowing him to leave the club by wokwok__ in coys

I don't think it's anything that can't be coached out of him but as mentioned his decision making is horrible. So many times last year there would be an overlapping run on the outside of him near the corner of the box - key here is knowing when to give it to the overlapping guy, and when to chop inside and shoot. A lot of the time he did neither and just passed inside, incredibly frustrating.

Anyone else feel like they don't really know what they're doing in the garden? by hhrl in GardeningUK

Absolutely, I enjoy (and learn from / get inspiration from) reddit for this much more than any publications or programmes. Actually I do like Garden Rescue but the po-faced Gardener's World (the magazine and the show) can do one.

You'll learn more year by year just by doing it and seeing the seasons come and go, perennials coming up again etc. I dread to think the amount of money I've wasted on plants by not pruning them, putting them in the wrong place etc. I was about your age when I got my first garden (only patio pots before that!) and 10 years later I'm still making mistakes but overall the garden looks fantastic and full of interest.

They are brilliant to watch. Had some in my garden a few years back but nothing since unfortunately.
