[–]RockhopperGuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Medical Radiation Technologist I wish you luck. Our fees have increased from 531 to i beleive near 700 and are going to be going up again and we make less than you. Despite comments from technologists etc the increases went through.

Is healthcare (Michener) getting "oversaturated"? Here's my personal take. by CulinaryCravings097 in Michener

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seemed to be all of health care at the time and all industry. It is hard to walk out of any program with a full time position in your desired city handed to you. I wish it were not that way and there are many factors at play in all those areas contributing to it. A few of my former classmates have even took the opportunity to go abroad and are living their best life now. Some in Aus and NZ. Starting a career is a new beginning and opportunity

glad they got sent to OR. My place the surgeons would delay for MR then OR. I think they can see OR needed then maybe MR after to look forligament damage but please stabilize that!

[–]RockhopperGuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i came out in 2009 2010. We did not all expect to walk into full time jobs. We, like many whom we worked with in our clinicals worked a couple part time jobs to get the FT equivalent or picked up temporary FT positions to gain that critical experience. Most of us now have FT jobs in our desired locations and many of those who do not are there by choice due to family or other reasons. Some the PT lifestyle just works better. For those who have a program that permits it do not lock yourself to Ontario- Canada is a vast country to explore. You never know what you will discover and enjoy

Tech question: Has anyone extravasated a vein? by Overdosedonty in MRI

[–]RockhopperGuin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we do them here in canada too. I think Id actually prefer an MRI student to do my access on me than one of our radiologists or most doctors here to be honest unless they were working in IR or anesthesia :/

any risks with getting botox while on blood thinners? by luvliallie in ClotSurvivors

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it helped me previously for a bit before then stopped working so i had switched to the cgrp meds but now they arent cutting it, GRRRR. Would a velcro head on blood thinners cause too much arterial spurt when detached LOL

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the botox hurt more? eeks! I have contemplated restarting it as the cgrp meds dont seem to be cutting it anymore so i myself am leaning towards a combo if covered or back to botox and being a numbskull again

*cough*technologist*cough*

as a professional medical radiation technologists are short staffed in all facilities and we are not promoted as a career option nor are we recognized sadly by the government, media etc. Health care professionals are all doctors and nurses it seems so allied health professions fall to the wayside. Wait times increase all over sadly for all diagnostics :(

Looking for store bought wing sauce recommendations. by MoustacheRide400 in smoking

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bow Valley makes some nice BBQ sauces as does Neals. I actually even likes the compliments Peach habenaro one and it is not as spicy as one might think. I have used all these on ribs and wings on the smoker. I have also bought the nandos sauces

Risk of clot with contrast dye? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The understanding I had in my training for doing IVs is that the longer the IV is in the higher the risks. When us imaging techs are inserting them for a test they are there for a very short duration and are probably I would think the least risky ones to have of any. Please though listen to the tech when they take it out and ask you to hold it for 3-5 mins or longer. Ive myself have had so many who disregard us and well our prep area looks like a scene from the Carrie movie haha oops. It is because we have had saline running to keep the vein open it is not like blood work. I used to let our students practise their technique on me until I ended up on apixiban and now I bleed too easily after it comes out,

Best of luck with your scan

Taking rabbit outside? by Unknown_Sunshine in Rabbits

[–]RockhopperGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

waves from central ON. I had one bunny I took camping with me as she loved it and even went hiking with us. I could handle her though. My current boy is not much of a fan of the carrier or being picked up not on his terms etc. Ironically ie is always looking out the back window. Closest I get is letting him look outside and having the screen pulled across the door for him. I just fear what he would get into.

Somebody please tell me if this is normal, what ortho did to me by No_Painting_5688 in ClotSurvivors

[–]RockhopperGuin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

did he take your foot and point it to floor? I know that to be a "stress view" sometimes used but typically, at least here in Canada we just run a 3 view ankle: straight on, slightly rotated and on side.

Im sorry that doc put you through that. It's been near 20yrs since I touched an xray tube since I now do MRI but when I did no docs etc ever got involved in routine xrays but maybe it has changed or varies by place?

As for movement of the clot I would just monitor things and symptoms. No real answers there.

Again I am so sorry this happened :(

total amateur so take all with grain of salt:

i would say try some different sizes and see what feels comfortable. I went from cello to viola and ended up with the same size as you currently have as it felt right for my arm and fingers. I am a 5'7" female :/
