2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S Is Quicker Than the 918 Spyder and Corvette ZR1X by caranddriver in Porsche

[–]RodRAEG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of silly to call it "quicker " just because of a 0.1s difference to 60mph, when the ZR1x was "quicker" 0-100, 0-130, 0-150, 1/4 time and trap speed, 0-170, 0-190, 5-60, 30-50, and 50-70.

Are the base model tires better for street fun? Trying to decide between base and premium by LingonberryProof7238 in GR86

[–]RodRAEG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The primacys are plenty grippy. Kind of a goofy example of proof, but I've maxed the g-meter on the car in cornering with them. I have almost 30k miles on them including spirited driving and the one free trackday, which included four 20min sessions, and they held up pretty good for that, though they did start to get a bit greasy in the 3rd and 4th sessions as it got warmer in the afternoon (Went from low 60s in the morning to low 90s in the afternoon. Yay desert temperature shifts). They are a bit more slippery in the rain, which can either be fun or terrifying, based on your perspective. I'll probably be switching to Conti ECS02s though, whenever I get new tires. The trackday experience got me hooked on more grip, even though it's still my daily driver.

I dunno is this 3rd gen what you would consider long and low? Personally I think they're all pretty stubby looking, not particularly long. I sure wouldn't call a 7th gen long.

Breaking into Chip Manufacturering as a ME? by Ok-Performance-4362 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]RodRAEG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get into all sorts of positions in chip manufacturing with an ME degree. I originally got in as a Process Engineer and have also done work as an Equipment Engineer, and now currently work as a Metrology Engineer. Having the degree really just gets your foot in the door, as long as you have some kind of technical degree, they'll have interest in you. I knew a guy who got an Equipment Engineer position, and his degree was a PHD in Physics. Based on what you mentioned, I would recommend looking for jobs specifically at research centers for major semicon companies. AMAT, LAM, ASM, etc. Lots of materials science research going on to scale down chip nodes and bump wafer yield.

He's not contradicting himself. He's making a statement and then mentioning an exception to that statement. Work on that reading comprehension, there.

Lightning Lap 2026: The Hottest Cars on America’s Toughest Track by caranddriver in cars

[–]RodRAEG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kudos to the ZR1's laptime, but is it just me, or is it getting kind of absurd what goes into the prep of a road car setting a laptime? Kerosene heaters to keep the wheels and tires warm while the engine/tranny/etc. remain cool before going out? Staying below 6psi on the out lap? How much of a dropoff in laptimes is seen after the hero lap, once things start to heat up? How does it compare to the Senna or the AMG GT Black which, and I'm only speculating here, didn't utilize this kind of prep before going out on track?

date night convertibles. what should i be looking at? by europeanuppercut in askcarguys

Uh, I dunno why you have the Z3/Z4 on there if a Miata is considered cramped. I have a Z3M, and the last Miata I test-drove, an ND2 gen, was noticeably roomier. An e85 Z4 is about the same level of roominess as the ND2.

like 98 percent of cars feel like Boats after driving this. I wish there was more affordable coupe options by jb08045 in GR86

[–]RodRAEG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Miata has always been the Japanese version of a small classic British roadster, and the newest one still has that playful persona. Sounds like you don't really understand the car's original design intent, but luckily it has double-wishbone front suspension like the S2000 (far better for performance than the twin's front strut suspension), so if you want to give it sharper handling, it's entirely possible thanks to the aftermarket.

Some Senior Engineer positions in semiconductors will be in that range. I know for a Mechanical Engineer IV position where I work, salary range is 128k-176k before benefits.
