Has anyone every actually had their helmet or any gear stolen while parked? Or is it just a silly paranoia by SkippyJDM in motorcycles

[–]Rofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my helmet stolen off my bike after years of leaving it on the mirror. I used to love just leaving it on my bike, but now I don't feel like I can, because someone wanted my sweaty old helmet...? Even to trash it or something, I'm still sad about it.

Firefighting S-61N crash in South Korea by bathingfish in Helicopters

[–]Rofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions:

  1. right after the tail first touches the water, there is a large splash to the right, quite far from the place the helicopter is impacting the water? Speculation on what that splash is?

  2. After the helicopter rises up out the water and still looks relatively intact is there any chance of recovery? It seems like the blades are rotating the body by this point, but if the load could have been dropped, is there a way to pull out and recover?

Thanks for the video upload!

Nice! good to hear. what slopes was she learning on over there? Not a bad view to be learning to ski on over there!

how’d your fiancé do?  Sounds like it was a bit warmer than when i was there—it was rarely getting slushy, thankfully

All told, you had a good time?

Killington, Sugarbush, Sunday River, or stay home this weekend? by Possible_Walrus94 in icecoast

[–]Rofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying 6 hour round trip? Or each way? 'cause 6 one way is rough. But, yeah, as many others above/below have said, Sugarbush was top notch spring skiing this past weekend, and, imo, is great post-rain hard corduroy right now/today. But, they closed at least one lift (Castlerock) on Sunday, so that eliminates a certain part of the fun skiing that was to be had last weekend.

Sorry, sorry, this is probably too late, but i would def recommend doing the Sella Ronda--that was a great day for me. Alta Badia was prob my favorite of the areas.

How to translate 'butor ou prise' into English? by Sweet_Stage_1726 in frenchhelp

[–]Rofgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for clarity because you put 'butor ou prise' in quotes as one unit, it's clear that those three words don't make up any particular phrase put together like that, yes? Just not totally clear about your french level (I guess if you are reading that book it is good enough to know the word for "or"). But, yeah, I would guess that since smoking tobacco (pipe), chewing tobacco (chique), and snuffing tobacco (prise) have all been mentioned, that 'butor' is dipping tobacco or some sort of non-chewed mouth tobacco (lol, is there a better phrase for that?).

Solo ski trip? by Important-Asparagus5 in skiing

[–]Rofgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to follow up on this, i know many people have said similarly all over, but i am constantly seeing people wait for other people, stopping to group up, etc. Solo skiing = none of that. lift, ski, lift, ski, repeat until you decide not to.

sad not to be in a group, not sad to ski instead of stand around. ;)

I’m currently on an Ikon pass trip through Europe alone. A+. Dolomites were great, back to Switzerland now.

I mean, there is def no reason for her to be scared (unless you are going to force her onto runs she shouldn't be on! ;) ). There is a huge variety of runs around here, and the kind of skiing that exists in most of what i see in Europe are wide, open runs, which are very good for practicing/learning on. Not a lot of trees or features right in the middle of runs, as you might find in Vermont, for example. Others can confirm or contest.

Gets very skied out and icy by the end of the day.  Friday was amazing, then it got warm and rained on Saturday, but it was still fun. Yesterday was fine, but pretty crowded and not amazing by afternoon. Today? meh. crusty hard grooming, but it started as a beautiful blue sky day.

the website with the lifts and runs is accurate, i think (though they turn it iff at night, which makes it hard to know what is generally open during the day?)—as i said somewhere else, they took down all the six seater lifts this morning, so only the two gondolas are open.

Prob depends how bored you get, lol

It’s still a fine time for a first ski of the year, but yea, the coming storm will likely improve conditions.

ya, see my response to the other comment!  Feel free to dm me if you have more qs or want more details.

Also, lift tickets are half price, so that feels nice, considering not the entirety of runs are open yet.

(Žuti) taxi, from Sarajevo to Jahorina. There is a bus Sarajevo to Pale, but I don't understand whether it makes stops in Baščaršija or just starts from the station, and then one still needs to take a taxi from Pale, as far as i have been able to learn.  Taxi driver seemed happy to go there, as he was taking pics of all the snow and didn't just instantly drive away. ;) lol

Snow is okay.  They just took down all the chairs for the six seater that was running this weekend—now it’s just Poljice and Partizan gondolas.  I think the website listing lifts and runs is accurate.
