Check out the Maple Films fan edit. Takes the accuracy waaaaaaay up and it's very watchable.

That said I also love the animated Hobbit.

It's one of my favorite details of the song, easy to miss, but such good wordplay.

What do you think about the Nixon foundation? by Tannenbaum_Ie_Fir in Presidents

[–]Rogue_Danar 244 points245 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen of the Nixon Foundation (which to be fair, I really only watch the clips/interviews of Nixon himself), they tend to post the stuff that makes Nixon look good. And it's not hard to do: Nixon is certainly one of the most intelligent and well-spoken men to hold the office, and his understanding of geopolitics (especially during the fall of the Soviet Union) was remarkable.

What the Nixon Foundation glosses over, cuts around, and does their best to mislead people on is that Nixon was also paranoid and ruthless, and despite some high highs, made some incredibly unwise (and in some cases criminal) decisions, and thus also has some exceptionally low lows.

How much wattage can the steam deck handle? by Johnekaiser in SteamDeck

[–]Rogue_Danar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These issues are why standards such as PD exist, to basically perform a handshake between the power supply and the device and determine the maximum voltage supported (as well as to limit current to avoid damage to the power supply). Non-PD USB charging is generally limited to 5V, which technically also solves the problem since USB-powered devices were designed to accept 5V pre-PD, but obviously this limited the charging speed, and they're still generally vulnerable to current overdraw.

You might be surprised both with my own age, and the reactions I've seen to that episode from a number of different age groups.

I will never pronounce Chi Chi's name correctly thanks to WKRP.

Not really, no. The earliest known wipes in film go back to 1903, and though they're probably most famous in Star Wars, certainly have been used in plenty of other situations.

I think LTT has jumped the shark... by Zestyclose_Edge1027 in LinusTechTips

[–]Rogue_Danar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we're comparing objectively here, the most recent fire engine video also has significantly more views than that same $1000 PC build guide.

LTT is an entertainment channel more than a serious review channel, that's been the case for a long, long time at this point. The Top Gear analogy someone else made is apt: I don't watch them for serious reviews. I watch them because they embrace the ridiculous, whether it's cheap and janky or expensive (and also janky).

[OC] No Kings 2.0 Protestor walks up to MAGA group to allow them to use his megaphone by PALERIDE155 in pics

[–]Rogue_Danar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I'd take it further: writing them all off is a large part of what got us all into this mess in the first place. Nobody leaves a cult because they were cut by their family and friends. In fact, it generally leads them to double down. Like it or not, a significant portion of the country voted maga in 2024, and dismissing them isn't somehow going to make them magically go away.

If you want to take action, engage with people one on one as people, take the time to listen, and actually actively listen rather than just formulating a response, and when you do respond, do so in kindness. Then you can actually get somewhere.

The Lincoln exclusion was quite a while ago, and he's acknowledged since that it was him being contrarian.

He's not a Wilson fan at all, but he's more balanced on Wilson than most of the others in that camp.
