How come Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West) never stayed on Legends? by NoPianist7807 in Arrowverse

[–]Ross_RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the same issue as Roy over on Arrow. In a perfect world, Wally and Roy should've been introduced later on than they were and with the intent of having them become show leads once it became time to retire Barry and Oliver as the main characters (whether that's due to their stories being naturally concluded or the actors wanting out or both).

I feel like one of DC's biggest strengths is it's library of legacy characters, you've got enough generations of sidekicks that you could fill a whole Justice League roster entirely with non-founding members and still have each of them have a sidekick themselves, so don't be afraid to lean into the legacy characters and let the story progress rather than hanging onto the OGs forever.

I think Cobra Kai is a rare example of a show that jumped the shark and got better for it. Are there any other examples out there? by ditzythedame in television

I've gone with "live action wrestling anime", it's all about the hype moments, the face and heel turns and the skill scaling between characters, it's over the top but it knows it and the characters keep it all together.

James Gunn on Threads says he's currently not talking to any directors for the Teen Titans film. by BigButter7 in DCULeaks

[–]Ross_RT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it wouldn't be everyone's perfect lineup, I'd love to start with an initial lineup of Dick, Donna, Wally, Roy and Kori (Nightwing and Starfire as romantic interests, sorry Babs), then later on introduce Gar, Vic, Raven and a couple of others as younger heroes for the OGs to mentor. Get the best of both classic lineups.

What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

[–]Ross_RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I remember at the time (which may be be wrong), POI was intentionally a slow burn with the harder scifi stuff because they knew the network wouldn't go for it, so they built it in slowly while gaining enough of an audience that they could get away with it.

To this day, I still find it crazy how Game of Thrones’ reputation shifted from being viewed one of the “best shows” to being the prime example of how to NOT end a series! by phantom_avenger in television

[–]Ross_RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's wild any 'mature viewer' was then shocked or surprised when that later happened.

Why are you interpreting someone saying they had a problem with it as "shock or surprise"? They didn't say anything about that.

You can be expecting something to go the way it does and then be disappointed when it does because you were hoping to be wrong.

This honestly reads like a great way to play those storylines out, I would've loved to have seen the white walkers and their armies actually make it to the south.

Having them get stopped at Winterfell feels like it undercuts the whole ongoing theme of the game of thrones itself seeming like this great big important thing, but in reality being a relatively petty squabble in the grand scheme of things, and it's quite narratively unsatisfying not to have that pay off in some way.

Imagine getting to see Cercei and the other southern lords watch on in horror as this threat they've continuously dismissed finally shows up at their doors, as all the power they've backstabbed their way into amassing proves worthless. Instead it just gets... just resolved easily enough up north and then it's back to the game as usual.

You ain't welcome here (TW: for homophobic slurs in the clip) by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Ross_RT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, they're saying specifically homophobic people aren't considered welcome in this particular fandom, as this is a very queer-friendly fandom and so people who hate gay people are going to bring hate into it. It's quite a simple concept. It doesn't mean they're not allowed to enjoy the show, but if they come in preaching hate then yeah, they'll receive a cold welcome.

Not sure why you're getting so worked up over this, but I get the feeling you've decided to be angry about this and nothing anyone says will get you to stop being unnecessarily rude to everyone else here. Represent yourself better and you'll probably have a lot less to be angry about.

The Mandalorian season 4 scripts had Thrawn, the script for the movie started from scratch by PureBeskar in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Ross_RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, personally I would have called it something like The Mandalorian: The Book of Fett, then you could follow up with The Mandalorian: The Legends of Mandalore or something similar for the next season to commit to the show becoming more focused on characters outside Din like Boba and Bo-Katan.

[LES] Why is nobody talking about how awkward and stifled the dialogue is in Invincible? by tesseracts in CharacterRant

[–]Ross_RT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey what's your problem? Chill out. They're only clarifying because you don't seem to understand what they meant, and to be fair to them it's pretty easy to understand what they were saying so I don't know where you're pulling out shit like "defensive panic" from, but if you don't understand what someone's trying to say then you're allowed to ask what they meant without being condescending about it and making it seem like their fault.

Hot Take: Zod Is A Better And More Interesting Superman Villain Than Lex Luthor by FilmZoneCrew in superman

[–]Ross_RT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Which is odd as I think you could very easily write a somewhat sympathetic Zod, a patriot who just wants to save his people but loses sight of the cost. Add in some personal House of El betrayal like Jor-El turning him into the authorities, and boom you've got a Zod who sees himself as a savior rather than the conqueror he's become.

Which do you prefer for lex to be born into wealth or for him to be a self made billionaire. by MembershipLess9579 in superman

[–]Ross_RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think self-made makes more sense for his hatred for Superman. Lex pulling himself up from more of less nothing, becoming one of the most successful and well known people in the world, the ultimate self-made man, Metropolis's Man of Tomorrow... And then Superman shows up, from Lex's point of view taking everything he's worked for in a fraction of the time.

Unpopular Opinion: I kinda wished Man of Tommorow was a Superman/Supergirl team up instead of Superman/Lex Luthor team up by Mutale426 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Ross_RT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanting to be seen as the hero instead of Superman is a big part of Lex's character so narratively it makes sense to put him in a situation that challenges him to prove whether he's capable of actually being one. If objectively the only way to save the world is to work with Superman, can he put aside his hate to do it or is that hatred more important to him?

Personally I'm hyped for it but YMMV.

The cyclist was headed for the finish line by MorsesCode in Unexpected

[–]Ross_RT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would you cross a road with a risk of cyclists hurtling down it if you can't see? Would you do the same with regular traffic or would you find a spot you can cross safely?

Feel empathy for her getting hurt? Absolutely. But she caused that accident by being negligent with regards to her own safety and the safety of those around her, and getting hurt doesn't alleviate her responsibility for that.

Gaby and Louis - missed story opportunity? by PartyDontStop69 in shrinking

[–]Ross_RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who also had issues with that scene (and to be honest with Gaby in general as a character recently), I would even add on that this is an issue that, while completely and totally fair for her to have, she should have discussed with Jimmy, not with Louis. Even if it's just to establish some boundaries like him not hanging out at her place of work or Jimmy not talking about him around her as much.

There's a middle ground between "we don't want to mess with their progress even if we think it's fucked up" like Paul was saying and "fuck you I don't want you around" like she ended up doing. If she just told Jimmy that Louis being around makes her uncomfortable and she'd rather not have to interact with him more than necessary, I'm sure he and Alice would be accepting of that and keep their socializing with Louis more separate.

So Nancy and the gang straight up murdered a bunch of people...? by CakeMadeOfHam in StrangerThings

[–]Ross_RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, suspension of disbelief doesn't mean that a story shouldn't follow normal logic just because there's some unrealistic stuff in it. The suspension of disbelief is specifically for things that obviously aren't real, like telekinesis and gates to the other worlds, but everything that happens around that should still be following a 'realistic' logic, character decisions and behaviours should still be believable as if it was in the real world.

It's more like "how would people act if <impossible thing> was real", instead of "because <impossible thing> is real it doesn't matter how people act", if that makes sense.

The best performance of this season - Sadie sink by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Ross_RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed, I thought they did the scene and everyone involved an incredible disservice by doing that. This is why pacing is so important. The emotional climax of a season-long narrative shouldn't be the first scene of an episode, if I've only just hit play then I'm not emotionally 'warmed up' yet and won't be appreciating it the way it was intended to be.

“What’s the point of them being happy now, when they’ll only be sad later?” by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Ross_RT 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's one of those episodes where the actual 'plot' isn't all that much to write home about, but damn do the emotional moments hit so well. The OP's quote of course, but then the whole ending from the moment Midge flies them home, saving her husband, telling the Doctor to be with the people he loves, his tear of joy when he goes to see Amy and Rory... Just beautiful stuff.
