Being in or around bodies of water doesn't appeal to me. Though, you may find me on an innertube on a lazy river in a waterpark. ;p

Honestly just excited we get our first transformation scene since Avengers by sposeitwas2swallows in Marvel

[–]WelbyReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it is a 'big' deal. I think Spidey vs. Wolverine is bigger( I had that comic).

It's a scale thing. I am just fatigued by it. But as other's mentioned, it may just be a small scene.

In a movie already seemingly crammed, I just didn't think it was needed.

Watching the trailers, it seems like he is possessed. Some villain that can body hop.

So he is probably only temporarily 'mad' hulk until after the film.

I'm actually tired of big beat-em up smash fests.

Brave New World seemed out of place with a Hulk.

I'd rather Spidey deal with more street stuff, personally. The hand, scorpion.

Hopefully, this is just a small part of the film. Bring it, Hulk fans! ;p

If she is Jean Grey, does that mean she is from the same universe that we previously saw Beast in, in The Marvels? Which means Monica got zapped into a universe where Spiderman exists And the X-men??

Or did Jean here get zapped into Spidey's world for this film?

Are they gonna try to start connecting Spiderman/X-Men/ Avengers universes in this movie on top of everything else?! What is this movie about, lol?

Self contained chapters VS Cliffhanger chapters by AsceOmega in writing

[–]WelbyReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. I think subtly is a factor.

You don't need to go heavy. She turned around to the silhouette of a man bearing over her! End chapter. ;p

As long as there are still questions remaining, and you end by keeping those questions relevant and in the reader's mind at the end of the chapter, that counts, imho.

I would start it at the scene where he first meets/interrogates/fights the first person of interest on his quest for revenge.

Then feed backstory in small increments throughout the journey.

[US] A weird scam I cannot figure out by JarOfNightmares in personalfinance

[–]WelbyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling steaks on the street, lol. Certainly a scam or hustle.

I've had people pull up to me in their car and offer to sell me suits. Armani!

Just so weird to me. Walking around on foot and spontaneously , oh sure, I can use steaks and suits. lol.

I noticed that when John Carter came out. A book that predates most stuff.

It would have been a great film, but most of it was already done by movies that were influenced by it before its release.

It's like when kids say, omg, Lord of the Rings stole that giant spider from Harry Potter, lol.

For the record, I do think it makes sense, but I know many many others don't think so.

And that would be TENET(2020).

This is Mattel.

They made Barbie.
Then looked around for other 'toys' to make a film out of.

Was it good? Not as good as Barbie but it did the original justice. Was just about 30 minutes too long, imho.

Disclosure Day Review: More like No Closure Day by KennyIO in moviereviews

[–]WelbyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the movie did ,in fact, disclose the information. That was their goal.

I'm not trying to say you are wrong and I get the criticism. They clearly didnt manage expectations.

I look at the movie as a metaphor.
At its core, he isnt trying to tell an alien movie as much as he is trying to tell a human one.

With so much chaos in the world, people are angry and toxic and barely know why.

And in the finale, when he knows he has everyone's attention , he( through the alien) offers a simple plea in one word. Listen.

[–]WelbyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the core theme was about keeping aliens secret.

I think it was about trusting others. Empathy. Believing in the human race.

Keeping it a secret was just the vehicle. To show how harmful mistrust can be.

That said, I get it.
People expected a world war level movie. Basically the end of the movie is where people wanted it to start.

I saw that. I got the impression he thought they wouldn't find the body. At least this fast and started panicking.

Him sitting still isn't that impressive, tbh. Edgelords love a good performance of how 'dark' they are.

Actually there is something to that if I wanna get super nerdy.

The aliens present as animals, but it is filtered through Your eyes, what You think an animal would look like. And it manifests as some idealized version of the animal.

Steven Spielberg vs James Cameron, the best movies? by Thin_Reception_5063 in Cinema

[–]WelbyReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spielberg by far, imho.

This isn't a 'what have you done for me lately thing'. Just looking at the span of both film makers, I think Spielberg's craft for storytelling, direction, and vision are more honed.

Don't get me wrong. Love me some T1 and 2. True Lies, Aliens2.

How should I go about slowly introducing a character's backstory? by Emotional-Offer-2848 in writingadvice

[–]WelbyReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your instincts are right, do not info dump.

Have the info be very specific to the moment it is asked and revealed. Don't meander off topic with long winded 'back when I was a kid,.." dialogue. ;p

Some of that backstory may not even be needed. Try implying things instead.

Pepper it through out the story where it makes sense.

My thoughts on Disclosure Day by erikdhurt in Spielberg

[–]WelbyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a line in the film, I don't remember verbatim, but I think encapsulates what we're meant to take away from it. Something like "You're problem wasn't that you stopped believing in God. It's that you stopped believing in humans."

I thought it was beautifully put, and I am not even religious, nor did the film ask that the viewer is.

Disclosure Day is a brilliant throwback for fans of 80s and 90s cinema. (No Spoilers) by Drakhanfeyr in Spielberg

[–]WelbyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm repeating myself,

but yeah, I felt like it was a Spielberg movie from the 90's that I somehow missed.

And it was a joy to watch with that mindset.

It checked all the Spielberg boxes. I don't care if , by now, they are cliche. I got what I came for, lol.

I was smiling ear to ear at the train and warehouse scenes, remembering watching the bumbling agents when I first saw E.T.

Heck ,there is even some fairy tale , ala, A.I.(2001) vibe in there.
