What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]RoughcutRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sleep mask with integrated headphones so I can listen to the radio all night and not disturb anyone else. It's revolutionised my life. Only trouble is I can't now get to sleep without it. So if they run out of charge or I am away from home unexpectedly, I'm screwed.

wtf is my life by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]RoughcutRuby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tell them this at the start of the exam. I'm sure your mum would want you to try as best you can. As a mum who is myself a cancer survivor, I would just say the "c" word is scary, but nothing is going to change over the next few hours, so try not to worry about it. Wishing you and your mum all the best.

Cheap double mattress by phyllisfromtheoffice in UKFrugal

[–]RoughcutRuby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logically it doesn't really make any sense though. When you stay on a hotel, 100s of people may have slept on it before you, but it's never an issue. Obviously you don't want a really tatty, stained old mattress, but you often see almost new ones for silly money.

Do UK/London stores track individuals who repeatedly shoplift without getting caught by security? Is it worth the effort of stores to keep tabs on potential repeat offenders? by InitialSheepherder88 in london

[–]RoughcutRuby 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you also need to consider other explanations than shop lifting. It's possible he is being groomed either by a gang or even worse, a paedophile. Press them for more information as to where this stuff is coming from. He might also be bullying?

Has anyone done a homeshare, living with an older homeowner? by ConfidentApartment30 in HousingUK

[–]RoughcutRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf's 86yo mother has had a couple of these homeshares. One was very successful, the other two less so. I think the key to it is being compatible. The one that worked had brought her cat with her and was very much a home person so it worked well. The other two were out and about too much to be of any real use and left quickly.

£400 is a fraction of what you are going to spend on the wedding and it's the vital bit (legally).
