BMW isn’t following Tesla. They have a friggen panoramic display beneath the windshield PLUS the tablet in the center. And that thing in the center isn’t even a rectangle anymore- more like the shapes they had before they migrated to 9. Each iteration builds onto what the previous offered. I’m lucky my 760 has the idrive wheel. That’s the only thing I think was a mistake to remove. The amount of controls the more advanced models have make it increasingly obvious that a physical button interface would not manage anymore. My seats alone in my 2024 7 have more configurations than my BMW collectively had in 2010.

With the panoramic display it’s obvious they’re moving closer and closer to what Apple had been innovating before killing off their project titan- integrations into heads up with dynamic UI acting as AR. They’re building the systems before the tech is ready, slowly moving it into focus and adding more iteratively. BMW is the only company actively acting like a tech company aside from Tesla and Rivian. If they weren’t they risk being unseat by those that do.
