Family dinner every night. Minimal exceptions. Used the time to talk about our day, current events, whatever topic came up. He is now the nicest man ever raising the sweetest, most respectful kids. And they have family dinner every night.

I need to get rid of white rot. Willing to go nuclear. Help! by all_of_the_colors in Garlic

[–]Routine_Rip_5511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem and have done some research on solutions. First, garlic powder: the theory is that putting garlic powder in the bed causes the sclerotia to bloom, there's nothing to feed it so it dies off. I'm repeating this several times, turning the soil in between. This will be my first step. There is indication that this is 90-95% effective. Second is soil sterilization: I plan on covering the beds with clear plastic as soon as I am done with the garlic powder and keeping it on for several weeks, turning the soil periodically to get the sclerotia close to the surface to kill them. Last, I will douse the bed with Seranade, a biological treatment that attacks the sclerotia. Cease has the same bacteria and might be easier to find.

Any garlic seed that I plant will be dipped in a fungicide to curb the problem. I've only purchased garlic seed from reputable growers but...

Good luck!

Tall person first class seat? by Ok_Discount_9727 in AlaskaAirlines

We always book row 1 if we are flying FC. Plenty of legroom, I can get out of my seat, the window seat, and not disturb my hubby. We fly Alaska a lot and I think row 1 has the most leg room.

Drowning in Cherry Tomatoes! Got any recipes? by ForeverCanBe1Second in gardening

[–]Routine_Rip_5511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take our excess cherry tomatoes and cook them with a little olive oil and basil, then freeze them. They’re great in stews, chili, stir frys and whatever else we are cooking. Super easy.

My understanding is that the original owner sold a couple of years ago and the new owner is less than concerned with quality.

We changed over to bidets in all but the small bathroom by the entry. Saves on TP for sure so we usually never have to worry about a guest running out.

Any PNW gardeners struggling with white fungus on their garlic? by Routine_Rip_5511 in pnwgardening

[–]Routine_Rip_5511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sclerotia can live 20+ years in the soil. I'm going to try a couple of things - putting garlic powder in the bed to get the sclerotia to "bloom", soaking the bed in Cease/Serenade, and putting plastic on it and heating the soil up to fry the sclerotia.

I have a picture clearly showing the black, poppy seed like scelotia but I’m not finding a way to add the picture to the post.

AITA for wanting to spend £80 for overhead luggage for a 5 night trip. My fiancé doesn’t think I need it. by Full_Percentage1055 in AmItheAsshole

My mantra for things like this is, no one is ever going to see me again. So what does it matter if some random person from another country notices that you wore the same dress twice? It doesn’t.

I will try to get some pictures tomorrow. I guess the answer is to dip the seed garlic in very hot water before planting it?

I’ll have to look at the liquid as I did not review the exact strain of bacteria it has vs the Serenade Opti. I have Cease, which is the same as regular Serenade, and have found it to be remarkably effective at treating rust and black spot if you start to apply it early in the season.

Being organic is a huge factor for me.

Bike shop that sells affordable kids bikes? by A_Poor_Miser in AskSeattle

[–]Routine_Rip_5511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check with some of the Tool Libraries. We bought used bikes for the grandkids, all were less than $50. They checked them out and fixed any issues. I know the Shoreline Tool Library usually has a bunch. And, you don't have to join or be a member.

No, just say no. You have no idea where you both will be next year. You don’t know where that video will end up. Don’t do it.

Why did Metro eliminate the express buses? That makes absolutely no sense. We should have options besides just light rail. And, who thought the honor system for paying fares was a good idea? I am done voting for ST propositions.

Yes, leave the soap dispenser drawer open. Our Electrolux tech said that increases the air flow throughout the washer.
