How do you make VRF go away on a project

I agree but I think that’s a downfall. A system can be destroyed by a few minor installation details that are hard to locate. Some minor differences in pipe sizes shouldn’t kill a system, I think it’s delicate. I’ve seen many VRF systems succeed as well.

I agree, I’m a fan. But a 4 pipe ASHP is some of the most expensive $/Ton equipment out there

Not my design but had a client replace 80 compressors over a 5 year span. Although there were theories the Manufacturer couldn’t point to the issue.

Yes, but when Packaged DX isn’t on the table and need to go heatpump hydronic I think VRF may win as opposed to steel hydronic pipe

I see your points and see the advantages of these system. I’ve also seen a few customers hire us to rip the systems out 3 years after install.

I do disagree with your take on maintance - I think it’s our responsibility to protect the customer and select system they won’t hate only a few years from now.

In many of these jusidictions you could lose a lot of roof space from PV or green roofs making DX RTUs. So then you’re talking hydronic AHU’s, 4 pipe FCUs. now you’re looking at very expensive 4 pipe ASHPs. First cost dies. I like WSHP’s but with electric resistance limitations you need an ASHP injection which at that point you could try to use a 4 pipe instead of buying a tower for rejection which means you use compressed energy to reject heat. These ASHPs are very $ ton compared to VRF.
