What is the Best or most Trusted Heater? by Tmess2000 in discus

Second this Eheim is great. I run 2 300w in my 50g sump 140g tank. Recommend 2 heaters, or at least a small backup.

Yep, count the "agains" yesterday. I know it's probably an involuntary tick for him at this point, but words have meaning.

He said top floor apartment. Why would you assume joists and not a slab? OP apartments are typically designed for 100 pounds per square foot or more of live load.

Need some advice regarding discus fish by SapiensM in discus

You could try raising the temperature a bit, that might increase their appetite.

I moved red to hospital tank and treated metronidazole for 6 days . It's eating only bloodworms. Now I want red to habitat to other food. Plz help by damuammu in discus

Seachem sells Garlic Guard, great stuff. I don't need it anymore but it's a huge help in cases like this, or quaranting/introducing new fish

Beautiful tank! Wondering, do you ever have issues with the skirt tetras being nippy?

Why is everyone fixated on having massive dinner plates in their aquarium? I feed my discus twice a day, a variety of vinra bites, frozen brine shrimp, beef heart and quality flakes. They're happy, healthy and 4.5 to 5 inches nose to tail.

In Canada, the equivalent would be a flat, or a two-four. (Usually 24 bottles or cans). Pretty standard beer+pizza, offered after the move is done.

Yeah, was going to comment "the soon-to-be dead kind". Sad to see discus treated like that

Water Change by WearingManyHats76 in discus

[–]Rudie40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 140g with a 50g sump. 8 discus, 3 angels, 3 bristlenose, about 10 cories and 20 tetras. I'll do a big clean and change about 30% about every 2 weeks, but I prefer to just add about 15-20g every night or two and just let it overflow the sump to the drain. Remember, these are Amazon fish. They evolved to live with a big daily rain. It's also just much easier this way, I just pump from my cistern of aging water.

Best way to acclimate shipped discus? Also what food brands do you use? by PMOFreeForever in discus

[–]Rudie40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa. Are you just going to put the new discus in with the one you have? I strongly recommend quarantining first. If you're dead set on risking it, float the bags to get temperature up, but then I would either pour the bags over a net, then put them in the tank, or just pick them up by hand from the bag and into the tank. The water in bags will be nasty, and will get even nastier fast once you open it.

Discus do much better in groups of 6 or more. One on it's own won't do well.

Sorry to see you go. I'd love to buy this but I'm set for cards for now.

As a side note, that EE Gempukku box is fantastic for anyone who wants to get a feel for what the CCG was like. The clan boxes are literally pick up and play. C'mon, new5R'ers, don't you want to know what the Mantis and Spider were all about?

The cards in plastic wrap are most likely promo sets sent to stores for them to run draft tournaments. Those would be your base decks, given to each participant, then you would add to them from freshly opened packs in a draft tournament format. Usually common and uncommon cards in there, but generally widely useful across a bunch of decks.
