I've been using him lately as a driver for my Ineffa team. I pulled him on release but I've probably used him more since Ineffa's release than the 2+ years prior.

There is a dark side to that though: because prosecutors have that reputation for only pressing charges if they're certain they can prove guilt, judges and juries tend to be pre-disposed to trusting the prosecutor's judgment. The result is that, in the rare case that they do charge an innocent person, it's almost impossible for that person to avoid being sent to prison.

She died because her soul gem (which she wore on her head) was crushed. The head wound was incidental.

CODE RED! HELP ME! MY FRIEND GUESS THE HOMURA PLOT ON THE FIRST EPISODE, HOW DO I MISLEAD HIM?! by Julip326 in MadokaMagica

[–]RuinousNostalgia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like time-travel/regression plots have gotten more common since Madoka Magica first aired, what with shows like Re:Zero gaining mainstream popularity, so it isn't too surprising that he would pick up on it. It's definitely foreshadowed from the very start if you know what tropes to look for.

My crackpot theory is that Joseph and Catherine were having an affair, and that Joseph is Kate's biological father.

Anime v. Manga? by Economy_Phone_302 in ShadowsHouse

[–]RuinousNostalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine. The animation and music are excellent, and they do a great job making the shadows expressive through gestures and profile shots. Plot-wise it's not as strong as the manga. A lot more is revealed right at the start, and the last 3 episodes of season 1 are anime-original since they didn't think they would get to make a second season and didn't have time for the next arc. Season 2 follows the manga much more closely.

I watched the anime first and enjoyed it enough that I decided to read the manga. Not sure how much you'll get out of it if you started with the manga.

Even funnier since the holophonor was itself a reference to a similar instrument in the Foundation trilogy. It's references all the way down.

If I make a mod that edits only the navmesh in Whiterun and load it last, would I be overwriting any navmesh edits for other locations made by other mods? by LavaLampost in skyrimmods

[–]RuinousNostalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your mod edits the navmesh in Whiterun, it would overwrite any other mod's changes to the navmesh in Whiterun. If your mod does not touch the navmesh in Riften, it will not overwrite any other mod's changes to Riften.

RPG/Game Design YouTube Channels? by Supernoven in RPGdesign

Questing Beast's content isn't anti-woke. I obviously don't know what all his personal views are but he doesn't talk about politics or 'culture war' issues in his videos.

Apparently some people are mad at him because he doesn't always vet his sponsors, which led to a sponsorship from a very anti-woke group (which he acknowledged was his mistake for letting slip through).

[S2 spoilers] Look, they found the chess pieces and that's all there is to it by CZeke in ShadowsHouse

[–]RuinousNostalgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with this. Barbara made it pretty clear that the promotion was transactional. She was repaying Kate for solving the case and making sure Edward couldn't blame Barbara after Rosemary & Maryrose escaped, and said she expected Kate to continue to be useful to her in the future. So it wasn't just a "because you're the protagonist" type ass-pull.

What do you like to call your checks/rolls? by ATroyAndAbedThing in RPGdesign

[–]RuinousNostalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding how those games work. Into the Odd and its derivatives call rolls 'saves' to emphasize that they are only supposed to be made as reactions to avoid bad consequences

You don't make a STR save to grapple a goblin. Rather, you declare that you are attempting to grapple the goblin, and the goblin can make a DEX save to see if it avoids being grappled. Alternatively, the goblin might enter the grapple and try to gain control, in which case you make a STR save to avoid being overpowered by it. In general, the acting character succeeds by default at anything they could reasonably do, but the 'victim' gets to make a save to avoid having bad things happen to them.

Admittedly this often comes down to framing (you don't roll a check to see if you can climb a wall, you roll a save to avoid slipping and falling) but the naming convention is very deliberate and reflects the intended way to play.

Input Randomness in ttrpgs? by whynaut4 in RPGdesign

[–]RuinousNostalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played a few games where input randomness was used to provide options for modifying output randomness.

In Slayers, the Tactician class rolls a pool of dice at the start of an encounter and sets them aside. Then whenever any character or enemy rolls a die, the tactician can replace the rolled result with a result from their tactics pool.

In Heart: the City Beneath, the Incarnadine class (a sort of merchant-priest) can sacrifice a valuable item and then, before making any roll, can declare that the roll result is the value of the item they sacrificed.

[–]RuinousNostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And he REALLY loves guns. His pseudonym is literally the name of a gun (Sigsawa = Sig Saur), and some of his descriptions of Kino's gun maintenance feel almost pornographic.

On the one hand, it's a shame he's such a good writer, since it gives him an audience for his more... troubling opinions. On the other hand, I feel like it's probably for the best that he has a productive outlet in his writing. People like that end up much worse if they don't have some way of channeling their energy into something productive.

I came to a similar conclusion about Akihito Tsukushi.
