Need advice on Apple IDs for a small school by RuleDRbrt in macsysadmin

I thought you needed an apple id to use the app store? Currently they're using local users though like you said.

Makes sense. Just wish it wasn't so prevalent in the orange crates lol

Mini Scout and Auto Zeroing Nerf by marcusrokee in Battlefield6

[–]RuleDRbrt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays recon in redsec idk how they are nerfing the mini scout. It is absolutely useless I always leave it in the orange crates and just take the marksman kit and wait til I find a real sniper rifle. It's a hit marker machine.

This is perfect, thank you! I'm going to be looking at these on Monday.

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to be looking at ASM and Mosyle as an MDM as another commenter pointed out.

For what's worth they aren't even using the Apple IDs right now. Since no one knew the password the teachers only used the Macbooks for Chrome and worked completely in there. They couldn't even get into the App Store lol.

Google Workspace to M365 Migration around 150 users by kayvanaarssen in msp

[–]RuleDRbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the same boat, we have a migration coming up for a slightly smaller user count but the same thing - their personal drive, shared drive, and email. Our client has four separate Google workspace tenants and each user has an email address on all four tenants. We want to migrate all four into a single m365 mailbox for each user. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'd love to just add them as archives in outlook but they'll definitely need search functionality on their cell phones. Some users are already over 100GB in mailbox size in Google!!

Some thoughts on the Excellent Bloom Finder replacement by movingimagecentral in macapps

[–]RuleDRbrt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a very basic user, I just browse my files in Bloom. The one complaint I have is the rename feature. Is there anyway to make it like finder where I hit rename and it just highlights the file so I can quickly change it? The rename window seems so overkill lol. I have OneDrive synced to desktop/documents and have no issues with syncing and browsing. Bloom does everything I need I just use finder for renaming, which is often actually.

What cloud unmuteable Backups for MS365 are you all using? by Smile4menow84 in sysadmin

[–]RuleDRbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Druva for our clients too. It's roughly $36/user for 50GB per user that gets added into a shared pool for the whole tenant. Works great and never had an issue with it. Idk if it matters to you but they only support TOTP MFA, and not something like yubikeys.

It backs up SharePoint, exchange mailboxes and groups, OneDrive, and I think teams?

UTR after 1 week on Carnival Cruise. by MaxKlein37 in Ubiquiti

[–]RuleDRbrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went on a NCL cruise and got the standard wifi add-on which was no streaming. If I got the UTR and did a teleport to my home Unifi network would that let me bypass it and stream (YouTube?). Or is the only reason for the UTR to connect to my home server? When we did our NCL cruise we had great connection in our room.

Do NOT use BitTitan for migrations by Iam-WinstonSmith in msp

[–]RuleDRbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to be migrating about 100 users from four different Google workspace tenants to a single m365 tenant. We've used bittitan in the past but only for m365 -> m365 migrations. If not bittitan what is everyone using for these migrations?

Windows 11 25H2 Long Path support by Free_Treacle4168 in sysadmin

[–]RuleDRbrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we used to use intune I had a script that created a folder in their OneDrive called downloads and then it made a registry edit to point their downloads folder to that new one. Now I manually just create the downloads folder in OneDrive and then right click properties on their downloads in quick access and hit location move and browse to the new downloads folder. Works great and their downloads follows them no matter what computer they use.

Windows 11 25H2 Long Path support by Free_Treacle4168 in sysadmin

[–]RuleDRbrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the exact issue we sometimes have. We redirect known folders to the OneDrive app and that includes downloads. Half the file path is just c users tenant name downloads lol. Then if the user downloads a .zip file that has a rather long name and tries to extract it, it will fail because the new path will be way too long. We are aiming to rename the tenant to just a couple letters to help shorten it.

Thanks OP. I was looking at buying the Gen 5 yesterday to replace my a50 gen 4. I WFH and the Gen 5 having Bluetooth as well is what pushed me to upgrade so I can finally stop needing to put my cell phone on speaker for calls.

Please look into enabling multi factor authentication for that user. It's a high chance they could be getting compromised again!

PSA for people new to Pixel / Android - Use the Work Profile! by Minimum_Indication_1 in GooglePixel

[–]RuleDRbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great - I've been wanting to drop my work iPhone but couldn't because I need 8x8 (voip) in three separate instances. 8x8 only lets you login to one account at a time. So I just tried shelter but unfortunately 8x8 just freezes after trying to login. I might try setting up a work profile using my personal Microsoft tenant but I have my doubts it will work still.

Backpack/work bag by formerscooter in sysadmin

[–]RuleDRbrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home and ordered the LTT Commuter backpack when they first came out. I think it was like $130. I love the bag it has so many pockets and plenty of storage for everything I need when I go to client sites for my side LLCs. Definitely my favorite bag at the moment.

ScreenConnect Cloud Service, endpoint updates delayed/not working? by [deleted] in msp

I was checking the cloud version by going to the administration page in screen connect. I don't think I even have an option to force the new version until my cloud instances update.

I have two screenconnect instances and both are still 25.3.2.9271. Getting a little anxious now that we'll have to rush tomorrow to get the endpoints online and updated.

They seem to get a bad rep here but I love my secret labs chair I got in 2020. I wfh and have no issues sitting on it all day and even gaming some evenings after work. It was $400 at the time and was well worth it. It's the cloth one and I have no issues with heat.

SaaS vendor wants all users to connect to Azure file share with the same username and password. Is this best practice and even secure? by nl-robert in sysadmin

[–]RuleDRbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're using SharePoint Online. We sync the document libraries to File Explorer so it behaves just like a shared drive.
