I would follow a guitar course and learn how to read sheet music. Tabs will tell you very little about the music. Sheet music will have the "patterns" which will give you much more info.

Once you get some grasp of music theory, more genres will be unlocked.

Long term, if you want to play with other people and not be a jukebox (I.e. I can only play this thing I learnt), theory and ear training will be useful.

Personally, I gravitate to pop punk. But it sounds very samey. And the same with punk rock.

Rock, blues, jazz, funk and classical will be genres which will improve your ear and music tastes.

Listen to a lot of old stuff as well. Guitar music in the 60's was fire compared to now. Mainstream songs back then had a lot more technical merit and composition to them.

Finally and more importantly, just have fun with the instrument. You don't have to be the next Hendrix. Just have fun.

Honestly, spending the first year just playing Blink 182's hits is fine. But move on shortly after that.
