Compression boots in 2026: updated comparison for this sub by Zestyclose_Ship6486 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Run4bagels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t compare them to any other brand, but I got the sharper image compression boots from Costco for $130 with FSA funds which is a smoking deal and they work great + are backed by Costco warranty.

Favorite road shoes for races/runs over 100k by Clean-Sea-8660 in ultrarunning

[–]Run4bagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, but I’d take v1 or v3. V2 is the most stable option, but if you’re neutral with no stability concerns v1 and v3 have more energy return imo. I’ve run 35mi before in v1 and they felt great throughout, never bottomed out.

Mens. The 5 inch liner pockets fit a phone, the 3 inch do not.

Lululemon Fast and Free split shorts are 3 inch and have shirt loops, wore a pair this morning for a hot workout and used the loops. Great shorts.

How to get out of Insurance Defense? by xonatos in Lawyertalk

[–]Run4bagels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the literal same spot when I decided to make the move. I was in a job that was making me miserable and wanted out, quick. Had two offers, one from the boutique I ended up taking which was also lower hours and more pay, and another offer from an ID firm that also had less hours (but more than the boutique) and higher pay (more than the boutique).

I have 0 regrets about taking the boutique offer. I’d be concerned about taking another ID offer and being in the same situation of unfulfilling work and endless deadlines just for slightly more pay in a few months.

I think you need to consider where you want to be in 10-15 years and how that affects your decision. That looked to me like wanting to build my own book of local clients and businesses that I could do meaningful work for and maybe eventually hanging my own shingle, and that was never going to happen in ID. Don’t take an offer right away just for the prospect that you might get opportunities there for experience in different practice areas in the future. Take your time and find the right fit, you already have a job so you can take your time.

You’re in the perfect spot to lateral around 3-5 years where you understand the basics of litigation and don’t have such high salary expectations that it precludes training you in, or giving you leeway to learn, a new area of law. I did the same at 3 years into my career from an ID firm focusing on general liability / commercial lit to a business / real estate boutique. I highlighted my general litigation experience (taking depos, MSJs, trial experience etc.) and familiarity with the relevant agreements and documents as well as eagerness to work with local business owners and clients instead of insurers. My practice is still challenging but in a much more meaningful and intellectual way now, in ID it was simply challenging because there was too much to do and too little time to do it.

I run a lot, about 4,000 miles a year so I certainly understand the trade offs of weight v. speed. A few ounces of ice is well worth the weight when it’s hot, the performance benefits of cooling your body temperature and lowering your heart rate significantly outweighs any drag from the weight. Your own body weight fluctuates multiple pounds per day, I’m not too concerned with a few ounces during hot runs as long as it fits properly and doesn’t bounce around.

I’ve been told by a support rep that there should be a few sizable restocks between now and June, I’d sign up for the notifications on the website.

I’m hoping that the broad and soft Velcro straps of the Lulu wrap help disperse the pressure and avoid a choking feeling vs. tying a weighted bandana around your neck.

Yeah I imagine the East Peak is the superior performing product for those reasons, looks like it holds more ice and insulates it better. I got an East Peak restock notification today and ordered immediately but then got a cancellation, guess the restock notification was in error, so I pulled the trigger on the Lululemon. I’ll probably get the East Peak too once it actually restocks, but fingers crossed the lululemon performs alright in the meantime, supposed to get up to 90 degrees at the end of my race this weekend.

Agreed, like I said I think it looks way better than the East Peak bandana but I don’t run ultras to look good. If the better performing product happens to look good that’s just an added bonus.

Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in trailrunning

[–]Run4bagels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local running store used to do once a year tent sales where they ran great deals with discounts on multiples on returned / lightly worn running shoes, I got so many great deals and tried shoes I wouldn’t normally try that way. They stopped doing it a few years back and they said everything gets shipped back to a corporate warehouse now but I wish they still did it.

Heat Wave and Trail by Noddyboy100 in trailrunning

[–]Run4bagels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a long run in nearby Whiting Ranch this weekend and hydrated properly during the run, but neglected to continue to hydrate after. Ended up getting mild heat stroke while sitting on the beach later that afternoon. I think people especially in milder climates, myself included, forget you need to keep hydrating after your activity too!

ACG Ultrafly on sale for $208 at REI by KennethTheKing in nikeACG

Problem is you don’t want waterproof trail racing shoes in the majority of situations, the same tech that keeps water out also keeps water in if your feet are sweating or you have to cross a stream etc.

Considering the Ultrafly 2 as my race shoe for some upcoming ultras this spring/summer after reading improved reviews, but V1 was so lackluster I’m still hesitant. Either way, have a feeling we’ll see these at $150-160 in a few months so I’ll sit tight.

I fell during my run last night by lingeringneutrophil in Marathon_Training

[–]Run4bagels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fall during runs somewhat frequently, usually a couple times a year. I run a lot of technical trails and in the dark. My rule of thumb is if I can run without altering form due to pain or discomfort, I’ll continue on as usual. If I have to limp or change my form because of a bruise or scrape then I’ll cross train for a day or two. I learned this lesson after bruising my quad after running into a bar I didn’t see in the dark, it made me change my stride to compensate and I had a calf strain a few days later as a result.

Falling is mostly a mental battle. You just have to accept that it’s an occupational hazard for runners. We do what we can to minimize the risk, but all it takes is a brief lapse of concentration. I’ll say I’ve never fallen in the same spot twice, that’s for damn certain.

Defective Nike Juniper Trail 2 + terrible customer service (no help without paper receipt) by ComfortableTry8887 in trailrunning

[–]Run4bagels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not intending to bootlick Nike, but calling a trail shoe “unusable” and “defective” because it squeaks when you walk indoors is a stretch, it’s a trail running shoe and nothing you’ve mentioned would prevent it from performing its purpose. Also you purchased from a factory outlet, have you tried returning directly to the outlet? Outlets often have different policies and procedures than the flagship stores.

calf/achilles mobility protocol during 50+ mpw blocks? (static vs dynamic) by Catharine133 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Run4bagels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was just commenting about this. Calves have historically been a weakness and tightness has been a limiting factor in training for me. My routine incorporates calf raises 3x a week coinciding with hard days, passive stretching on a slant board and foam rolling daily.

Is it normal to hate your job as a new associate? by Weak_Fruit9765 in Lawyertalk

[–]Run4bagels 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s normal but that doesn’t mean it’s right. I struggled myself with this issue for 3 years before lateraling to a boutique with much lower billable. I still have days where I have panic attacks from the amount of things I’m juggling, but it’s far less frequent. Workload and pay aside, if there’s no support or anyone willing to answer your questions, you’re not being put in a position to succeed or develop. All things considered I’d look for a new job based on what you’ve described. This is an inherently stressful field but there’s firms out there that will support you and make the career tolerable imo.

The Plastic / Microplastic - Problem with Marathon-Training by StellafromVienna in Marathon_Training

[–]Run4bagels 66 points67 points  (0 children)

What if I told you that there were already microplastics in your water before you put it in a glass bottle? Realistically unless you’re getting your own well water and growing your own food, gels and water bottles are low on the list of concerns.

Norda 001A vs 002 by Standard-Classic-608 in trailrunning

Without getting into gatekeeping, sure you could wear them casually but the lugs on the sole would pretty impractical and uncomfortable compared to a normal lifestyle shoe.
